The annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest 2009 results had Joey Chestnut winning his third straight "title" on Coney Island. This Fourth of July contest never fails to make me sick but it's like watching a train wreck, I can't look away as I sit in disbelief at how many hot dogs (with buns) these guys eat in 12 minutes.
Chestnut was able to beat out Takeru Kobayashi (yeah, I think of the Usual Suspects every time I hear that name too). Kobayashi used to crush his competition year in and year out until American Joey Chestnut won two years ago. Since then he hasn't looked back, now winning three in a row.
So just to give you a warning, the video of a guy eating a record breaking 68 hot dogs is pretty disturbing but here you go. And you have to listen to the interview after the highlights. It's pretty hilarious as it sounds like a prize fighter getting interviewed after he won a heavyweight boxing match. 68 hot dogs!!! That's how many I eat over the course of five summers.

This just seems like the sort of activity that could result in something like "Hotdog eating champ found dead in men's room following event" If I were participating in the contest, and managed to not choke to death in the process, I would surely die from some hot dog complication within a few hours after...
Is it just me or has Kobayashi's career had the sort of precipitous decline we saw with Mark McGuire and Sammy Sosa? I'm not suggesting PEDs were involved (not even sure how that would work for an eating contest), I'm just saying its an interesting coincidence...
