I hope everyone is having a celebratory weekend, whether it be fireworks, picnics, attending parades, or quietoly meditating at home on our liberty here in the USA. Many are going through difficulties at this time in our history, but we still dare to hope for a brighter tomorrow for all. Above all, we must remember all the brave men and women who fought and died for the freedom we experience every day.
A friend commented the other day that she doesn't agree with others who feel that Americans are "spoiled". Her comment gave me food for thought: Being spoiled indicates that we gain from others without giving anything in return - that life is made easy for us. I believe she's right - spoiled is the wrong word. All the privileges to which we have access were fought for and earned by the dedication and sacrifices of those who did and still are fighting for our tremendous freedom.
So, this weekend, let's enjoy our freedom to do what pleases us, but at the same time remember to celebrate all those who did, and still are making it possible for us all.

Thank you for the post, and hope your day was a wonderful one !
Marie,
I too think we need to remeber that freedom is not free. I was reading an e-mail earlier today about the cost paid by the signers of the Declaration of Independence and it caused me to thank God for our forefathers and all those who sacrificed so greatly to win the freedoms we enjoy today.
By the way, I received your book yesterday and my wife promptly confiscated it. She wants to read it before I do, so I am on the waiting list.
Thank you so much. I hope you won't succumb to lonliness while your wife reads my book! I sincerely hope you both enjoy it. My original idea for writing it was "just to see if I could". Happy weekend to both of you.
Thank God my freedom is to be here on gather, instead of watching 66 some odd hot dogs being eaten. That was yesterday's freedom. :-)
Clifford wrote of cost paid by the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Did know anything was paid for it. Wish he'd send the post where he saw it. Very interesting.
I have to admit I did enjoy the fireworks at the White House last night, then in NY along the river. It's nice to be alive and FREE.
I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Thanks so much for your comment and the link to your website. I have bookmarked it :)
we barbequed and listened to music, i had a blast :)
happy late 4th from me :)
Lovely sentiments.
Thanks, Elizabeth. Are you by any chance from the Ohio Valley?
