It's kind of weird. Most of us have realized that Gather seemed different than in days gone by, especially since the last upgrade. I am coming up on my first annual anniversary and it definitely is not the same here, as it was when I first arrived. The spark and liveliness is gone. In fact...this has been the first time I have returned since June 26th of my last posting. Exactly one week ago. I have seemed to have lost interest.
It probably hasn't helped that since all the upgrades, the points aren't like they used to be. Plus...they took away some of the stuff I enjoyed seeing. I used to be able to cash out every 3-4 weeks. Then it dropped to 2 months and now it has been over 3 months. Partly because I am not on like I used to be and partly is because we seemed to have to work 5 times as hard to get half of what we used to get.
I am now spending most of my time doing what I thought that I would not do and that is building my farm on Farm Town. It has actually become quite fun and I am meeting some really nice people there. Too bad we can't earn real money, because I would be making a killing! LOL But for some reason this place gives me the sense of real accomplishment. I think this is what I am missing from Gather now.
Despite the fact that Gather members always complained about all the drama I shared on my posts, this is also what seemed to keep them coming back. Some Gather members got their keester bent out of shape when I shared the pain that was in my life and yet...that blood boiling is what seemed to get them mad enough to keep coming back to see what I would say next. Now that I've decided to "eliminate" drama altogether from the equation, they have gotten board and moved on. Kind of like the media. If they don't have bad news to report about someone, they tend to not be interested in hearing about the good stuff.
Plus...having a lot of contests kept folks around. Offering free stuff will keep a lot of folks interests peaked and when the free stuff is gone, so is the crowd. LOL
My life still hasn't gotten off the rollercoaster as of yet, but it is what it is I guess... I am just writing this post, because I was trying of think of something to write about. I may post some of my "interesting facts" from time to time, but this place clearly isn't going to help me out financially like it used to. I kind of miss the old ways, even with all the drama in it. It kept life interesting and it bonded us in a way that nothing ever could. It's like the old addage..."fighting hard, keeps you loving hard too!" Without the fights, there seems to be no love anymore.
I never thought that I would ever say this, but my Gather "addiction" has worn off. I find that I hardly think of this place any more. Who would have thought that I would be gone for an entire week and not even make one post? Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Gather or have any ill feelings, but it's kind of like a lost dying love... Once the "spark" is gone, then the interest of keeping it alive goes as well.
For those of you who will read this post, I hope all is going well with you. If you want to look me up, go to Farm Town and if you see a farmer walking around the marketplace called "vision2win" that would be me. Some of my old friends on Gather have become my "new" neighbors on Farm Town. However, it is definitely not the same. We are so busy farming and making our millions...we don't have time for a lot of idle "chit-chat" that normally would go on... LOL Anyway... Take care everyone and I wish the best to you all.

Teresa, so what did they do to the gather points? I was away for quite awhile & have yet to cash in any points. Mine just passed 3,000, but I need 3,150 to get $50 bucks. It does seem slow. Did they simply have so many people and fewer advertisers? Cheers, CS
I think that's it. Too many payouts and not enough money coming in from the advertisers. Since the new upgrades, it is very difficult to get points and cash out quickly like we used to.
Do you mean the cashout process is slow, or that earning points is slow? Soon I should be able to do the Paypal $50. Should I anticipate a delay of some kind?
Both... As mentioned in my post...I could earn a $50 payout in 3-4 weeks, now it takes up to 3 months or more. Plus...I used to see my paypal cash within 2-3 days and from what some folks have said...it has taken as long as a month. I won't say this will happen to you, but it has happened. It has been over a week for me and I am still waiting on my last payout.
I see, slow to earn and to pay. Thanks for all the info Teresa!
Ahh I was wondering what happened. This site does not seem in the main to appeal to many business types. I'm still surprsied to see some of them still connected to it.
I am on facebook but I don't play farmtown - do you play mafia wars or school of magic?? I play both of those. I am also in vampire wars and pirates to help others build their crews
No... Facebook really bores me, so that is why I was surprised that I ended up liking Farm Town. But it does give me a sense of accomplishment like I mentioned and so I keep at it. I don't really get into a lot of computer games, but I appreciate you asking.
What's Farm Town?
It's a cool game on Facebook where you can build your farm by earning coins, to purchase more crops and buildings, fences, animals, etc. You can earn more folks if you hire other Farm Town farmers to harvest your crops. It's kind of neat. It's like real life. If you don't harvest your crops in time they go to waste, you lose your investment and have to replant your crop. However, their server is kind of funky so it boots you off a lot, especially if you are trying to harvest a good crop.
I've noticed my points have really dropped off, as has new content and activity from other members.
it is different, if i knew what farm town was... :0)
well, when you do post, I read them.
hope to see you around.
Thank you Kimberly.
Gather's point system is different, summer is here and there seems to be less activity. I'm still Gathering. Not as often because of a heavy workload and family stuff, but still here...many Gatherers are joining that new site RedGage...
What is RedGage?
I haven't cashed out in two months and I remember a month or so before that I was cashing out twice a month for $50. Now, I'm not sure when I'll ever get to the fabled 3,150 points. I try to be as active as I can (which isn't easy with a busy life) so I'm getting 20 points on normal days, and a few more on active days.
Hey Teresa..I am over at Facebook too...I think I found you and sent a friend request.
I accepted. Thanks. However, you haven't shown up on my invite list to Farm Town yet. When you do I will send you an invite or you can send me one.
I've read various posts about how gather has changed.
Interestingly, I am posting the same, getting a few more comments (probably due to paying it forward), and the points are about double what they used to be - before I averaged about 17 points a day, now the average is over 30.
I still find freebies - mostly contests and postings for free points - the only thing I really want.
I still log on 3-5 times a day.
Since I still have dial-up, I cannnot participate in some of the more interactive sites, so gather suits me fine.
That is awesome! You must be doing something right. Thanks for the post.
{{{{{{{{{{{Teresa}}}}}}}}}}} I've been here a little over 2 years and I agree, it's not the same.
Thanks for your ever so famous hug. lol
my hugs are famous???????????????
Yeah... ((((((((((Carol))))))))))) You are one of the very few that ever does this to me. So that makes you famous in my book! lol
Ummmm - okay.
I too am at face book yet I found this place still going for me, I know many need the $ yet i feel that just talking and posting to my friend near and far is good enough for me,, In a sense I see it as a change that happen all around, life must go on it is up to us to make it better weather it is here in gatherland or facebook, or redgage or what ever,,
Thisi is good. Gather is different for everyone. Thank you for posting a comment.
Change is not always a bad thing and I have seen Gather go through many changes. This last one was not popular with a lot of people. The tone of the site has changed. I am sure some people prefer it this way but I like it when the site was more social.
We are connected on facebook but not sure about Farm Town. I make a terrible farmer since I never go back to check my crops.
Yeah...I keep cleaning up your weeds. LOL I get 15 coins for it too! LOL
The last change on gather was a bad one. I sure do not feel like it is the same place. The tone of the site is all wrong.
I posted on one of my posts that I haven't cashed out since the latter part of last year and now my points are coming even slower. Gather is definitely not the place it was when I joined almost 2 years due to a lot of unnecessary changes/upgrades. It has become dead here and lost its appeal.
Hey lady...it is good to hear from you.
You make some good points....It is good to see you.
It is good to hear from you too Karen.
Now where's my sunshine package??? LOL
I am on farm Town, but don't really get how to work it, I still like Gather, it wasn't ever about the points with me, it is a nice bonus to get a gift card to augment what I might go buy, but it is the poetry I like to read, and write and the photos, oh well, to each his own I guess!
That's okay. Gather is a different experience for everyone. Thanks for your comment.
I feel the same way Teresa. I now come in once in a while to view and when I come, i dont feel like commenting.
I do more commenting/reading on this now rather than creating. I do a lot of Farmtown too which is plain silly but fun!
I have noticed that my points are moving very slow. Recently, I came back to gather after being away for two weeks. I kind of got bored with gather. But I still like gather, and I'm trying to hang in there.
I have noticed point being slow. but when I first came knew nothing about points. it took me 6 months to figure what the points were for..lol.
That's funny... lol
yeah, I lauged when I found out to
I guess I'm not on here enough to see all the extreme changes.
I've just been too busy with work to log on here for weeks. Thanks for posting to All Top Ten Lists!
I Teresa, I've been wondering where you were.
How's the love life going?
The friendship has grown quite a bit, but I doubt that it will turn into a love interest. And that comes from my perspective. Thanks for asking...
It does seem that Gather lost some of its zest after the last "upgrade"
But, as this site gives me more freedom to write, I stay here.
On other sites, like Redgage, they don't even allow adult content. And, that's what I mainly write. Romances are my bread and butter.
And, I can't be on a site that limits my creativity that way.
So, I will stay here and hope that I get more views because others are being driven away.
Te he!
I've noticed it too. I am not on here much any more either. I am on more at Redgage than here.
I have not liked the past few downgrades, and the points are much more harder to earn, not that I was any speed demon on them in the first place. The Gather staff have been pushing more for a particular type of clinent, and I feel many of us are not fitting that type. So you are seeing a lot of us going.
I am going to have to check out Redgage. So many folks are talking about it, but I haven't looked into it as of yet. It's sad that this happened, because I really liked being here.
