Ah, Hummingbirds! One county over, a sister has them visiting by the dozens every april, which makes me a bit 'green eyed",as the only time I have seen one near my yard was last fall. A lone visitor hovering around the fenceline then Gone, off to ?????
I don't know where they fly off to,lol.
Sooo, one Sis goes to visit another, way up in Washington state, and the first thing she sees in the backyard is This beauty.......... Now I am really green eyed!!!!!!!!!! Then again, with three cats, it might not be a great idea to attempt to entice such beauties, eh?
Thanks, sister Sheila b...this is now my screensaver.......................:)

nice pic
Beautiful shot, penni. My husband saw one in our yard a few weeks ago checking out our hibiscus flowers, but by the time I looked to the window it was gone.
I doubt that a cat could catch a hummer unless nesting. Hummingbirds are a riot to watch! When we first spot one in the spring I take down two extra winter bird feeders and put up two hummingbird feeders. When I took my grandsons to Phoenix, our balcony was at treetop level and we could watch numerous black-chinned hummingbirds tear around.
In Upper Michigan once, looking out the large picture winow at a friend's house, I watched a dozen beauties feed at a feed staion, just a foot and a half from my nose, John. It was winter, snow was everywhere, and the lil birds were SOOO beautiful!
That's a really pretty shot. Will make a great screensaver.
I can almost see the lil thing flying, on my screen, Kay.I do wish they would come to my property as they do for my sister.
Beautiful photo and screensaver.
I watch the hummer outside my work window. He guards his territory. He soars, he dives, he spins. Is he chasing? Or is he showing off? I need to stop working and get out, don't I?
ye, Ellie...but at least you have a great view at work :)
wonderful catch!!! ~~10~~
I agree with John. Trumpet flowers are a must.
Great shot! Thanks for sharing it with us. Have you seen a humming bird moth? I saw one last year, sort of creepy, very cool.
Only once, last year, Shannon. I did not know what it was either until I ran across a photo here on gather. We sure learn a lot and perhaps should sometimes call the site "gatherschool", ha
Very pretty hummingbird! That would make a great background or screen saver.
When we remember to clean and fill up the feeder, we have so many different kinds of hummingbirds, the colors amaze me. Plain grey, ones with white colars, red neck, even have on beautiful hummingbird that is green all the way down its back. Brillant emerald green.
Very beautiful one! :-)
Blessings and best wishes - S.
Beautiful photo. You really don't need flowers if you have a feeder.
I would like to know what flowers attract humminbirds???
There are a lot of them William, but azaleas and morning glories come to mind.
I would have to google that, William, as there are at least 20 types of bushes here in florida that attract them. I'm terrible at remembering all the names.
Those flowers might attract wasps. We already have Catholics living next door.
yay! Sis got back tonight and she will share all those lovely photos from Washington, Oregon, all the way down to Texas. bet her butt is sore from trabvel, lol
I got blue jays and cardinals..
Beautiful picture. Can I download it and use it on my desktop?
yes, you may, Jan...sis took the photo and gifted to me...yay! I like to share good stuff :)
Give your sister my thanks. And thank you for letting me download the picture.
Jan
Does this mean bird for lunch?
lol, William....Turkey for lunch!
Wow, gorgeous!!! I have a hummingbird feeder, but no visits :-( I am not sure if there are even hummingbirds in this area!
oh you have 'sisters' all around the globe..everyone loves you,penni..you are so sweet..
the hummingbirds should flock to you ,so sweet you are ..they do not know what they are missing..
your 'sister' another sheila ..:)
and a sweet sister you are, sheila, just like sheila...er, the other one,lol
This is beautiful,Penni.
This is a beautiful picture. I hang the hummingbird feeders in one of my trees just off the front porch, so I can watch them in early evening. I love listening to the hum of their wings as they dart around each other trying to get to the red sweet water.
Cat + bird = one less bird. Trust me I know. They are cool though. Very good catch.
Thanks for your wonderful comment on my post. Maybe it's the name Larry. I plan to repost this one with wedding photos added. Our scanner was out of commission.
Hello Penni!
I like your style (your choice of Hummer buddies too).
Thanks for coming by my posts too.
They come and go so quickly that it takes me a second to realize it is/was a hummingbird and not a big bug.
Came back to catch up on the comments.
Penni used to be a opera singer
Her Aria would break zee glass
This of course made plastic makers
Name her sonstress of plastic bakeware
But her sweet voice is now humming
Along with hummingbirds with sound stunning
For they all sound like a Barbershop quartet
And Penni dances on her candy stripe pole
Because that's entertainment
