My Life as a June Bug
As I start the day off, I wonder which way I need to go, to acquire sustenance. As usual, I have no idea where I am, but I seem to recall, that I was just on the verge of trying to engineer a way through or around this crevice in front of me. The ground started to shake, and I froze. I waited and waited for it to end, but after ten minutes of the ground trembling, I gave up and decided to spend the night right where I was. I try not to do that, because of unseen dangers of being out in the open, but this time I felt safe, even with the rumblings. Trying to get my bearings as I head to the east , I feel the heat rising up from the ground. Making my way away from the heat, I turn left and right, to see if I can get a familarity of this place. Maybe I have been here before, but maybe not. I've run across nothing that will help me choose which direction I need to take. Only that I'm heading away from that heat. Maybe if I regenerate my memory, I can think of where I found that last bit of food. Why oh why, did I leave that place. It sure was nice and safe. No heat coming up from below, and the food was great. Here I am trying to recall, and now I've gotten myself going in circles. What's wrong with me? Now I need to stay still, and feel if the heat is starting to rise below me. Oh my...How stupid of me. I forgot that I have wings..Taking off.....

Very well written. I really enjoyed this.
thanks Diane. I could have gone on with the story, but it seemed appropriate that it was a good place to end it...
that was So cute, Randall! I am sorry to say that we used to tie a string onto june bugs and fly them around. Sounds cruel now, but we always let them go after. And I was only 8 ((sob))
awww ....
Unfortunately, when I was growing up, I belonged (forced to, by way of my parents) to a 4-H club, where I caught all types of bugs, killed them with some type of poison(of which I don't remember what it was), and then mounted them in a display box
We used to find dead ones for our kids' bug collections for school. One year we cut a piece of 1/4" foam into the shape of a windshield and then drew a black border around it with a line down the middle to look like the windshield. Then Lana hot-glued the bugs to the windshield for a class project. Hers was the coolest in the class. :-)
My brothers did the same thing Penni. I was too scared of them!! Nice writing Randall!!!
thanks Ann...glad you enjoyed it
he he that was great Randall.....me thinks you might have been there before? LOL
OH!!! yeah, I guess so..Thanks Debby
We did the string thing ,also ! Well done ,Randall.

I've heard my mom talk about the string thing, but I've yet to try it.
good one! I'm so tired I had to read it twice before my brain kicked in! lol

I enjoyed your story. Next time you're out flying around at night, DON'T follow the light!! Just because the other bugs are doing it doesn't mean it's a good idea. And try not to get caught on your back. That's always dangerous - especially when birds are around. It's good that you remembered you had wings and then remembered how to use them. ;-p
thanks Elise
"Don't go into the light!"
