Daily Whine & Shine - Wednseday, July 1, 2009
by Marilyn Mackenzie
Whether you agree with the concept or not, everyone needs to be able to vent from time to time. That's especially true if you're one of the many who suffer from an invisible illness. We have whines and rants about pains, medical professionals and prescriptions, just to name a few. Perhaps our families listen; perhaps they don't. Even if they do, they get tired of our complaining, even if they claim to understand our struggles. Or if they don't get tired of our "negative energy" we think they do or will.
Do you need to rant about something? Tell us about it.
Do you have some celebration or victory you need to share? This is the place.
What's happening in your world today? Are you grumpy about somiething? Or so angry you could spit? Tell it here. Here at the Daily Whine & Shine, it's acceptable to rant, vent, complain, stomp your feet, throw a tantrum, and shout, "Oh shuckie darn!"
Wait! Don't go away! Do you have some good news to share? Great. This is the place for that as well. If you're celebrating, dancing, and yelling, "Yippee Skippy!" please share. Sometimes knowing about someone else's happiness gives us a bit of hope for ourselves.
Whether you're shouting, "Oh shuckie darn!" or yelling, "Yippee skippy!" - this is the place to be. Pulll up a rocking chair, and let's talk about it.
Now, let's celebrate!!!

Food for Thought:
Never spend your money before you have it. ~ Thomas Jefferson (Our government would be wise to follow that one, as would each of us.)
Never trouble another for what you can do yourself. ~ Thomas Jefferson (I wonder if he meant to never trouble the government for what you can do yourself also.)
Those who seek absolute power, even though they seek it to do what they regard as good, are simply demanding the right to enforce their own version of heaven on earth. And let me remind you, they are the very ones who always create the most hellish tyrannies. Absolute power does corrupt, and those who seek it must be suspect and must be opposed. ~ Barry Goldwater
A nation of sheep will beget a government of wolves. ~ Edward R. Murrow
The only sure bulwark of continuing liberty is a government strong enough to protect the interests of the people, and a people strong enough and well enough informed to maintain its sovereign control over the government. ~ Franklin Delano Roosevelt
It was once said that the moral test of Government is how that Government treats those who are in the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight of life, the elderly; and those who are in the shadows of life, the sick, the needy and the handicapped. ~ Hubert H. Humphrey
The government is merely a servant -- merely a temporary servant; it cannot be its prerogative to determine what is right and what is wrong, and decide who is a patriot and who isn't. Its function is to obey orders, not originate them. ~ Mark Twain
A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor and bread it has earned -- this is the sum of good government. ~ Thomas Jefferson
A government big enough to give
you everything you want, is strong
enough to take everything you
have. ~ Thomas Jefferson (Note: Some argue that Jefferson never said this. Perhaps he did not. But the quote has been used by politicians for years and always attributed to Jefferson. And it is one that Harold Zieger, the man from East Germany who speaks at Tea Party rallies and warns about the signs that a government is taking too much control of our lives uses in each of his speeches. Wherever this wisdom originated, it is still wisdom.)

Happy Wednesday! Happy Canada Day! Happy Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day! Yummy.
Yes, I'm still sick and hating it.
"Lumberjack Week (23-25)"
Lumberjack Song
I'm a lumberjack, and I'm okay.
I sleep all night. I work all day.
Mounties : He's a lumberjack, and he's okay.
He sleeps all night and he works all day.
I cut down trees. I eat my lunch.
I go to the lavatory.
On Wednesdays I go shoppin'
And have buttered scones for tea.
Come on, everyone. Sing along with Adam.
Good morning Marilyn! How are you today? The sun is shining, the birds are singing, things are ok here :-) {{HUGS}}
Hi Pamela. I feel like a big pile of doo-doo. Thanks for asking. :)
I will be spending my day readying my spaceship in preparation for tomorrow. :-)
Not me. I'll be doing what I do best - forgetting.
What a combination, both National Ice Cream and Hot Dog month.
On the dissapoointing side, it looks like we will be celebrating the Fourth in the rain.
That combo makes me a bit ill to think about. Must have been because of the times I stuffed myself with the both at summer festivals. :)
I think it might rain here too, David. Sad, because our 4th of July Parade is a big deal in our township...and for our church.
whine whine whine..........
where can I get an Italian sniper rifle ? ? ?
J/K........
maybe................
I love the Barry Goldwater quote Marilyn.......
it is so on the nose for what seems to be going on in the present day situation.........
Isn't it?
and I can not even imagine the existence of the United States of America without they great mind of Thomas Jefferson......
he knew how to close those loop wholes.......
I do love his wisdom, but some folks try to change his words around to mean something entirely different. I think he was pretty clear.
Be nice to JERSEY, what,.... now ya've gone too far!
I don't have any rant's at this time, just ordered a $25. CVS gift card ::)
I am not used to my new puter yet and the keyboard in quiet but different and when I touch things both on the screen they do stuff- it would be funny, if it weren't true, well takes me a while. Just couldn't overcome the disire jus for a "lit'l rant.
I wonder why NJ gets a week and not the rest of us.
wow this is great! more than what i thought when i opened this post. i love your layout.... and i love ice ream!
Hi Ashley. Yeah, I started this some time ago. I was doing a place to whine a bit, and ended up putting up some reasons to celebrated and people asked me to continue...so I have. :)
Made me smile day! : )
Cool!
Marilyn I know what sick is and I had my aunt help me with my stomic problem and been taking something the past 3 days that helped me and if you like I wll find out how mom mixed it up and I will send it to you to try and help you if you like? Just let me know you want to know how to fix it. And trust me its a simple thing to fix.
Sure, send me a message.
WOW! What a lot of cool days and occasions to celebrate! July isn't just about The Fourth for us and Canada Day for our northern neighbors--and, also for me, the birthdays of several dear ones. I could write poems and articles about several of those days! I think I'm going to make a link to this to keep handy for when I want to get inspired.
Okay!
Here's my whine: Not enough hours in the day to get everything done I want to do.
Here's my shine: So many great opportunities to do at least SOME of the things I want to do.
Good attitude, Ainsley Jo. :)
Thanks! I try--though not always successfully! LOL
Good afternoon, Marilyn!
We received some much needed rain, yesterday! It wasn't enough to end our drought, but it sure was great to see it coming down from the heavens!! Hopefully, we'll get some more today.
We had some too - sometime after I went to bed around 1 a.m. and when hubby got up around 5:30. And we didn't hear it. Weird, because usually our doggies or kitties will wake us if it rains or storms.
I've got to bring my furbabies inside when it storms, too! They're afraid of the thunder. One of them hides in the bathroom! :)
we now have a bioterrorism alertness month?
Strange, isn't?
I got good news, you guys know the pressure I have been under about moving and afraid that I would be on the street on the lst of july,
then the landlord said he couldn't leave because I told I couldn't find a place, and therefore my lease had to continue,
but he wanted 100 dollars more a month and I said I could not pay that which I couldn't and so we were under so much stress, that I was literally too ill even to stay up during the day,
he said he would think about lower the amount he wanted but he never got back to me,
well tonight he did come back with an offer instead of 100 dollars more it was gonna 30 dollars more and I said that was too much. And so he said okay for this year he will leave the rent the same as it is and he will fix the back yard I am so amazed and happy.
There's a national sugar cookie day? WOW! That's really cool. Those are my favorite cookies!
