I've posted about sleepovers in the past, Sleep-over's: How old is old enough? Neither one of my children have ever been on a sleepover before. Chandler is 8 and Stephy is 5 1/2. Chandler has never had any desire to have a sleepover, he's like his Dad and would rather just stay home. Stephy has been asking for months for a sleepover, she's adventerous and very independent.
Stephy is going on her first sleepover TONIGHT. Stephy and her best friend have been begging us for months now, so we decided to give it a try. Afterall, our families spend so much time together it's as though they are just extended family.
I'm a little excited, nervous and sad all at the same time. Excited because it's something she is looking forward to and is excited about. Nervous because it will be our first time spending the night away from her. Sad because my baby girl is growing up.
Stephy was so happy when she helped me pack her backback for the sleepover. She even had to choose special pajamas for the occasion and of course her favorite stuffed animal. It was so cute to watch her get things ready. The excitement on her face and in her voice was priceless!
We live almost exactly one mile apart, so if we get a phone call and have to make a special midnight trip to pick her up, it won't be that big of an issue. I think that this sleepover is going to be hardest on me. :) I'm a big girl too, I can handle it. Right?!

I think this is such an individual decision. My oldest son is so outgoing and confident, he's been going to sleepovers since he was about 6 and finally scored an invitation. My nine-year-old would usually rather stay at home. I'm lucky that all my children have cousins around their ages, so via family vacations we get to do "sleepovers" from an early age, while Mom and Dad are right there in the guest bedroom or pull-out sofa!
I hope Stephy has a wonderful time (and that the phone never rings!)
The first sleep over I had was with some friends of mine at the cottage. They lived right next door, and we all slept in the tent in our backyard. I think I was about 8 years old.
My friend Tammy & I never fell asleep, so we would sneak around the quiet house and get snacks or play prnaks on the others, bad girls! =)
We just had one on Monday, but it was cut short due to my daughter getting sick. I had to escort all of them home in my nightgown to some crabby parents, but stuff happens.
my oldest son had his first sleep over at the age of 6. He was in first grade. within 20 minutes of their arrival to my home, the 3 other boys were walking around my house in their boxers...(why? i'll never know.. I think it had to do with two of the boys had older brothers and this is what their brothers might have done? all of this was new to me as I grew up in a house with all girls) needless to say... We had to run to kmart to buy boxers for my son and he never went back to tightie whities.
My second son had his first sleep over when he was 5. and my youngest son... well.. that's what happens, by that time, there were so many boys in and out of my house..who knows when he had his first sleep over... probably at 5 or 6. but I do know that They all slept over their cousins without us...many times before their first at home sleepover.
ps. It doesn't matter what age as long as they can handle being away and sleeping through the night.
Tracy kept my house full of little girls all the time. All the Moms knew me and had no objections. My only problem was about midnight I could feel them all creeping into my bed. so here I was with 5 or 6 five year olds trying to push me out of my own bed.
I was divored at the time, and this is Norma, of [donaldandnorma.gather]
I was the only one who didnt sleep good that night. Sometimes I had to go, get in Tracys bed and sleep. LOL.
I slept over at my best friends as often as my parents would let me when I was little. Her parents never minded, and always said I could move in if I wanted to. ;) Obviously my parents didn't go for that, but I would spend 3-4 nights a week there during the summer. I think I was 8 when I started sleeping over at her house.
My kids have been doing sleepovers since they were really little. It's never been a big deal...with my medical problems, it's been neccessary for the kids to stay with friends....and making it fun keeps the focus off me.
My oldest never desired sleepovers, Megan I really can't remember how old she was. I was always at other friends houses growing up for different reasons. I am sure she will enjoy herself. It will be okay mom, take this time to have one on one with your son. Those moments are nice as well.
aww I hope she has a good time at her first sleepover.
I don't remember how old I was when I had my first sleepover with friends. Maybe 7or8? I know when I was little I used to get to go sleep at Grandma and Grandpas sometimes though on weekends and that was always fun!
thanks for sharing..cute picture.
Amara just had her first non-relative sleep over last weekend (she's 4). She called me at 11:30pm to ask me to come get her. I could practically see the tears in her eyes over the phone! I spoke to my friend and she said that if I didn't mind she would try one more time to calm her down and I told her to go for it. She told her to go to sleep while she waited for me to come get her. Amara fell right to sleep and slept through the night! I was so proud of her!
When she went she had a fun time helping me get her ready. She packed everything herself and choose the pajamas and special toy she wanted to take along.
You can handle it! It was hard on me too.
Zachary never had trouble leaving me and loved spending the night at his grandparents' house. His first sleepover with a friend was when he was 5 or 6. He spent the night at a neighbor's house and they had a great time.
Awww, how sad and sweet! :) I know us Moms can handle it, but it's so hard to see our little babies growing up! :)
It is. At least I have a few more years of baby to enjoy with Jonas. I like to feel needed!
My youngest just turned 8 years old on the 14th. He sometimes spends the night with his Aunt, he was to spend the night with her last week and he threw a crying spell and wanted to come home so I had to go and get him. It was ok though. Didn't bother me at all.
I feel better that he wanted to come home so bad.
Those eyes they crack me up,,, maybe you should get a pair then while you are crying your eyes out because the baby is no more,, you can save on tissues,, LOL
she is a cutie
Just love that pic
OMG!!!!!!!!!! That is way too precious!
I had sleep overs ALL THE TIME! I miss those days ;o)
