"Numbers"

I give you NUMBERS
to help you understand
that all things
are not within
your
reach
Sometimes you have to
S~T~R~E~T~C~H
Sometimes you have to
STOP being so greedy
or needy
depending on your frame
Take it two ways
look at it sideways
and UNDERSTAND
Being greedy
is the polar opposite
of being needy
and they both
are one and the same

I like it especially being greedy is the opposite of being needy
Thanks Carol.
Thought provoking piece, well written. I shall come to expect nothing less than the best now that I'm informed and have read your work. Thank you for posting to our group.
Thanks Jennifer. And, you KNOW I love your Group!
I've written a piece especially for the women of gather, my friends. Please read "Love Starved" when you have some time. Thanks.
Will do Jennifer ~ It should really provoke conversation!
i don't know that i agree with that
needs are things we can't live without
greed is from want or lust even
greed is a choice
hmmmmm ~ interesting thoughts you have Sparrow Boy. . . .
Needs are relative -- I might think I "need" a mansion, but I'm sure I won't die if I don't have it ~ However, I WANT it. I might even go so far as to get to the place where I think I NEED it -- let's say if I were someone used to living in a mansion. It is amazing to come to the knowledge of witnessing the changes people go through when they "think" they really "NEED" something -- some people really need a drink if they are alcoholics -- or drugs if they are a drug addict. And, maybe to those people, they think as you've suggested -- "they can't live without it".
Is there really a difference between "needs" and "wants"? And, if so, who determines the difference?
NOW, let's flip to the polar opposite . . .
Greed or Gluttony involves a person who knows not "measure". Can that not also be said for the person who has "needs"?
I can't wait to hear your response ~ and anyone else who follows your frame of thought...
Beautifully expressed dear Rene'.
I like this approach to the subject of need and greed.
Thank you both much Haim and Granny Janny! I've been checking out some of your Snippets ~ both of you...
. . . It's good to be among GREAT WRITERS! Thank you both for stopping by to comment.
This was very original. I love different kind of writing. Things which stand out. This was simple and enchanting. A beautiful blend. A 10++++
BIG HUGS Terry ~ And, I thank you for your kind review of this piece.
There is a powerful poetic vision of the world working here. Side by side, wisdom and instruction stand side by side. This is a poem that examines our human frailities and wants to teach us more about them. Perhaps some might see a certain bleakness in need and greed being essentially two sides of the same coin, but it's the kind of honesty that I applaud. An excellent, thought-provoking piece. Thanks for sharing with The Poet's Circle.
What refreshing comments Jason. I thank you!
indeed, they are both one in the same...lovely read
i like hugs :)
Dawn ~ Thanks for reading and commenting. I was just checking out your writings . . .
http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?articleId=281474977732453
it was supposed to be a snippet but :( alas it wasn't
lol
let it shine!
It is just perfect as is Dawn. I read it, and . . .
It is currently FEATURED in Artistic Minds®.
You can still do a Snippets Edit on it, and also share it in Snippets! ~ "Where WE WRITE in "30" words or less, and delete the rest."
Then you'll have TWO VERSIONS . . .
HUGS ~ Your Friend,
René
ahahah! ~ Thanks C.F.!
An excellent, smartly-written read. Kudos!
Actually after almost a week offline, I blindly deleted 90% of my Friends of Lewis postings notifications, there were dozens. Randomly yours was not deleted. And I am happy it wasn't.
Well I love the way you have not fallen in love with words and simply touched us with amazing craft of direct message.
The perspectives are well caught.
sometimes one strech to bring down what is beyond his/her reach. You may call it greed. But the attempt might have been prompted by a inner hollowness which has made him/her desperate. Desperate to prove.
Numbers are a relative thought. I have known a tribal man who can count upto ten fingers. He is an artist without knowing it. He can draw with a piece of charcoal.
Numbers are the marks as you have pointed out. Nothing more. I can count ten with my fingers to mark your effort.
Bravo.
But you are always a leader in thought.
silence for God
I read "silence for God" and the accompanying poetics ~ a weird thing happened when I clicked on the link though ~ it went somewhere strange with a Gather mix (?) ~ the message didn't take, so here it is . . .
BRAVO to the MAXIMUM EXTENT Master Poet Poddar ~ on ALL.
Your Friend & Fan ~ Rene
I'm glad you've interjected your thoughts about this writing. I'd put "God" at the forefront of your list. And second to that and interconnected is "LOVE". A true need indeed.
I don't know that an "advanced society" mandates "more items"...that a person would need in order to live LIFE FULLY. I think that those would be classified as "wants". Survival is relative based on any man~made advancements. They are subject to "change" and also subject to evaporate.
WE can LEARN to UNDERSTAND what "needful things" are, or WE can choose to create our own illusionary lists. Only the TRUE needs will STAND. All else will disappear ~ for they are merely an illusion.
Thanks for your thoughts!
I was thinking of physical needs only, but of course you are right. We must put God at the head of any list, and love also
I went back and read some of your other posts and you are indeed a deep thinker! It is wonderful to see an artistic person also be so God centered! You are a blessing to all humankind! I hope you can stay on gather for a long while. It appears at times people who try to raise others up eventually get discouraged at some of the negative comments that are made to them, and then stop posting. I pray that the Lord will give you strength in these endeavors, and you can be with us for a long time! Blessings forever...Jer
I'm humbled by what you've said. I don't think that I go deep enough ~ at least not on Gather, so I thank you for your introspective outlook concerning me. My artistic side is a result of being "God centered" ~ (you are very discerning). The paintings I paint, the writings I write, the songs I create, the films I make are all God centered ~ naturally, without thought -- they just come out that way! ~ L O L.
About staying on Gather...It has been the "friends" that I am connected to here that have encouraged me to stay here. Two in particular that actually intervened when I was certainly ready to say "Chow" ~ ahahaha! All of the Gather members who are in the Gather Groups that I have here are very, very INSPIRATIONAL and ENCOURAGING, and I am so blessed to have met them. Because of the other Websites that I have outside of Gather, where many Gather members are very supportive, I continue to try to contribute here in Gatherland. I want to support my "friends" just like they support me. Every comment means a lot to me, because I realize it takes time to read and leave thoughts that are constructive. I try to do my best to comment back to everyone, because I think that it is rude not to.
Thank you so much for your prayer. I need all the prayers that I can get ~ L O L ~ and plenty of HUGS to you brojer! Thank you for being a "friend".
Your Friend,
Rene
And, I want to talk to you about your bone scan ~ in private...
You'll hear from me. And, I'll wait on you to come back to just STIR me UP some more ~ ahahaha!
I don't know how I missed this, but am glad I found it. "Need vs. greed different yet the same." I have to say that I agree with you and some of the others comments, as well as what you've written.
In one comment near the top, you presented the question of who decides the difference between needs and wants. I think it all depends on the person. My interpretation of what I think I NEED may be interpreted by someone else as something I only WANT. (I don't know if that is making sense).
It all falls back to what a person's mind frame is....how their interpretation of their situation is. For easier understanding you could compare it to the word "emergency"....my definition, understanding, and interpretation of the word may be totally different than someone else.
What you said makes sense. It is the same frame of mind that I have about the matter.
And, you used a good comparative ~ the word "EMERGENCY". I'm a good one for having my own personal emergencies ~ which I haven't had in a long time . . . has a lot to do with creating DRAMA ~ {that's the ACTRESS in me ~ ahahahah!). So I know what you mean. As a matter of fact, I think that DRAMA can describe "need" and "greed"...both seek ATTENTION.
Love to hear what else you have to say Renda.
HUGS ~
Rene
