Wet cat food for cats or dry cat food?
A few days ago, I got a question from one of my readers concerning if one should give a six month old kitten dry cat food or wet
cat food. She asked if she should feed her new six month old kitten solely on a tin of wet cat food or a tin of dry cat food?
This is my answer:
Feed your kitten a mixed diet of dry cat food and wet cat food. If a cat only eats dry cat food, it will not be as healthy as a cat that eats wet cat food as well. Wet cat food (and especially fresh food) has nutritions and important enzymes inside, it also is more liquidity then dry cat food, and the cats have the fun of licking up the sauce.
Dry cat food (from a good make) is a healthy diet for a cat, but should be mixed with a diet of fresh cat food or wet cat food too.
Some people swear by dry cat food, since it's in some cases cheaper then wet cat food and is more compact. Dry cat food swells up in the cat's belly and quickly fills up your cats.
In addition, if you often travel or are out and away from your cats for many hours each day, then dry cat food might be better since the cat can self feed itself whenever it's hungry.
Wet cat food would go bad in the sun and after short time out of the tin, but dry cat food will last longer.
Tip: Place your cats' cat food dish in another wider dish that has some water in it, so ants can't get into the cat food!
The Healthiest Cat Food Diet For A Cat:
- A dish with some dry food.
- A dish with some wet food.
- An occasional meal of fresh cat food.

I have to mix them both, & I say have because my cats (3 of them) will sit by their bowls & won't eat until I mix the wet food in. They sit & stare at me like, "Hey, mom, aren't ya forgettin' something???"
Thank you Mari!
My 2 Cats never liked it mixed. They would stare at it, take a sniff and walk off disgusted... they where a bit fussy about food.
Well, they mostly got fresh stuff and so liked it best...
My lovely spoiled little babies!
love Camille
I feed my cat something called "Avoderm" which is a dry cat food. It was recomended by the Vet because it is ash-free and very nutritious,
I have a dog, and I feed her mainly dry food because it keeps her teeth cleaner than the wet food does. Not sure how much difference in caring for a cat vs. a dog takes, but I imagine the love we invest is the same!! I love my chihuahua!!
You have a chihauhau? OH how sweet!!! i love chihauahau's! My neighbor has a one month old one, very cute....
To your answer on the cleanlines of teeth. I don't think that cats get bad teeth from wet cat food, since in nature they also eat bloody dead animals that they catch which are moist... Though perhaps that kind of food is different than the comersial food that is full of other kinds of things... Well, i guess that every animal loves different kind of foods. Dry cat food or wet cat food... It's what one trains the cat or dog to eat from the beginning. Isn't dry dog food also bad for the teeth? I mean that it also gets stuck in the teeth doesn't it?
I know quite a lot about cats and dogs, but i guess not everything.
If you feel like, and have a few minutes to spare, you can tell me what you think about cat and dog food on my blog. And share your story about a dog or your chihauhau. here it is incase you want: http://catlovingcare.com
Any one els is also invited to comment if they want. :-)

I'm saving the link to your blog Camille, I'm interesting in what you and others have to say! A pet owner can never have too much info!!
Thanks Fran! I've just started it up sometime ago, been adding content and tips and so on. Almost finished with two more posts on the damages DEET can caus to humans and pets.
Do you have any pet posts which i can comment on?

I'm a day late as always lol....I wondered if you might know anything about a food typicaly made by a dog food company here in Edmonton that I had my 3 yr. old 'Russian Blue' on when he was 4-6 months old. It's ground from raw chicken the bone's as well, carrots, beets I believe with I think some potatoes although I'm not completely sure about that. It has healthy veggies but mostly consists of the chicken & bones, sometimes buffalo I believe and sometimes other beef. It is frozen so that it can be purchased and taken home to feed to your cat when thawed. The idea being as well as very healthy, 'Harry' loved it but the litter box will no longer have a smell. The out door dog or cat also indoor the doodles, lol, turn to like an ash type substance after a day or so thus being easier for dog owners and so on.
I've heard many mixed reviews on this and I ask because now that I've purchased a larger freezer I would like to think about this as being a part of 'Harry's' diet again along with his dry of course.

I appologize but there are very many brands and types of dog food out there! I certainly could tell you more about it, but would need to know what's the name of the dog food. I might already have info about it, but should deffinatly know what the name is. Please tell me the answer soon, since i will be going to bed in an hour or two. (is 8 o'clock here...)
It sounds healthy and is a good idea to give wet food along with dry dog food.
Btw. Do you ever give your dog any fresh meat to eat? It is healthiest raw. But some people say that it will make the dog an appitite for blood, so maybe not such a good idea.

I know your question was not directed to me constance, but after reading your post and what happens to the "doodles" after a day or so, it would make me afraid of what might be happening to the pets insides..... have you checked with your own vet about that food? and how long has it been on the market? does it have lasting side effects or has it been out long enough to even know? I am so very careful about what I fed my chihuahua, i stand and read all ingredients before i even consider a new treat - because I DO think everyone deserves a treat a day - even my 10 1/2 pound butterball... I never imagined I'd be counting calories for my dog!! but here I am, and I do!!
Do you know that natural dog or cat food is the healthiest food for dogs and cats? I think it's just caus, they don't dummp so much bad stuff inside of it and they have to make it natural so it probably is the wiesest solution. i never really tried it myself, because they don't sell such stuff here, but probably is good...
love, camille. it's best to check and read all the ingreadients before buying anything - for dogs or cats or even humans!
Hello Camille, and Fran lol First 'Harry' is my katt, he's a Russian Blue, 3yrs. old now. The food is made @ a Dog food Plant it is made for dogs and they make the Cat Food SEPERATLY of course, LOL, just at the same place. As for what it would do to Harry's insides hmmm, I'm not sure I think it's formulated to do the disindagrating thing afterwards but you have a VERY good point Fran. Thats what I meant about mixed reviews by different Vets etc. Sooo, I'm undecided now as to what to do? It's 6:11 PM here but I'll be able to get your post cause I have it so that I'll be alerted through my gmail. Thank you ladies ever so much. Sweet Dreams, peace, Constance
Hi Fran and Constance!
Mostly, if you buy from a known company, a big one that has been around for a long time, then it probably is ok. Though sometimes there are brands of dog or cat food that HAVE been around in the market but aren't good for the animal. where i live here in the DR the cats, no matter how starving, won't touch the disgusting local brands that don't even say what's in them! A friend said she gave the cat food (after her cat refused to eat it) to a pigish dog, and guess what? did he eat it? NO!
You just have to be careful what you buy...
Love to you all,
camille
(gonna look up that dog food tomorrow.)
Ps:Did you know that DEET can even kill an animal or brain damage a human? Another point to disguss, for even the big companies put it into flea controls and sunscreens, but not to the point...
Sometimes even the big meat and food companies put all kinds of crap inside of the stuff they give us to eat. For example they grind up the bones and the white gluppy parts and putt them inside our meat to eat. I resently almost broke my tooth on a hard bit of white stone like thing inside of the meat.... Quite yucky if you think of what they put inside...
greetings, Catscamille
