At our friends' house yesterday near the little Sonoma County, Northern Californian town of Graton, I kept hearing the unmistakeable sound of an Anna's hummingbird near a huge "butterfly bush" (Buddelia) in their front yard.
Within a few minutes, I spotted a tiny female Anna's hovering around the flowers. I grabbed my camera and, to my delight, the little hummingbird lit several times -- allowing me to take several up-close photos of her feeding... She was only about 8 feet away from me as she went from flower to flower and didn't seem scared at all. She actually stopped and perched several times!
I wonder if she just likes the butterfly bush's flowers or, maybe, she thinks she IS a butterfly?
I thought you might enjoy seeing this dear, little creature up-close and personal! :o)
SO CUTE!

Isn't she just DARLING? :o)
This last photo isn't of her -- I'm throwing it in because I liked it. It's the view from our friends' front yard of the hills beyond at sunset:

Well, precious Gatherers... I hope you enjoyed this close encounter with a Anna's hummingbird!
'Til next time!
From the ole singlewide here in the wild hinterlands --
luv,
jean

I'm so glad you enjoyed them, Stephanie! :o)
Beautiful shots, Jean. Those are just stunning photos - it's so mall, we have two butterflies that come around that are the same size and those critters never hold still.
Because of gather I've seen so many different colours and types of hummingbirds - just amazing.
The hummingbird really is darling.
Thanks so much, Rose & Heather! They really are so CUTE!
