I have observed that when most students do research on their lessons or assignments they would just access the internet to do their research rather than do it in the library. I actually understand too and i think browsing the internet for answers is really much easier as compared to browsing it through thousands of books in the library.
Well, it just came to my mind that what if someday all information could already be found in the internet and almost all students would rather use the internet rather than go to the library to do their research. I think it is really very possible that in the near future no one would be using the libraries anymore because of the convenience of internet.
What do you thing about this?
Do you think this would be possible someday?
Do you also prefer to do your research in the internet rather than on libraries?

I hope not my kids love going to the library.
There is too much that I would rather read from a book than from the internet. I hope it never happens.
There are a lot of really good programs our libraries offer that are valuable to the patrons and their kids (as long as our d**n governor doesn' t cut their budgets so much they HAVE TO close). I really do like the online ebooks our library provides but I still like to hold an actual book in my hands as opposed to using an ebook reader or reading on my computer.
I hope libraries are never replaced but can see their use going down.
most information is on the net and is a bit more up to date than books. Sometimes by the time a book is published some of the data is already outdated. SO yes I can see how they COULD be replaced as a place to go for information - but I hope they are not because the fiction books are just as valuable an expereince as many non fiction ones. Also the net is usually availabe to kids at home so no need to bug a parent to bring them to and from the library :)
NOOOO! I hope this never happens. It is so hard to verify the accuracy of info on the net. Plus, nothing is better than the feel and smell of a real book in your hands.
No, I don't believe that the internet would ever take the place of a good book. We still love to hold a book and read it from cover to cover.
It's possible, although I hope it doesn't happen; I still like books too
Interesting q
an interesting thought Just think of all the trees that could be saved and the gas and land spared.
I hope not.
Not soon. There are far too many books, periodicals, miscellaneous documents that haven't been scanned. Serious researchers need libraries.
Libraries will end up becoming resource nodes for the books that they have.
Let's hope not! Remember when the library of Alexandria was destroyed? It was 2000+ years before we had flush toilets again! When I was researching for my book, I usually found it faster and easier to browse the encyclopedia than the Internet. Well, okay, I'm a lot better at searching by now, but computers are pretty tenuous things. They can get sick, hacked, corrupted and ain't worth a dang without electricity.
