The page, clean and open
the picture of potentiality
as ready as the pen
poised and eager
to scratch the white fiber surface
and feel the ink flow past its tip
incarnating words
invisibly forming
in the womb of her inward spirit.
Her mind is a living pool
swirling with currents
freshly fed by
it's inflowing streams:
observation and intuition
its cool deeps hold thoughts and theories
memories and dreams
the pool shimmers with playful ideas
active images from nature's glories
and life's happenings
Her heart is a world
for emotions of the moment
sometimes light and easy to bear
lovely to give away
others burdensome
dense as lead
not easily shared
this world of feelings instructs her
charting her relatedness
to herself to circumstance
to community and cosmos.
At times, unbidden
flashes of insight
ambush her psyche
as if from nothing and nowhere
from beyond or above
or from an unknown place within
beams of uncreated light
illuminate her being
supplying notions
she cannot have concocted.
Fascinated and awed
in such moments she feels small
in the presence of an Other
quite small and yet somehow
that the totality of existence
has taken notice of her
the experience passes
but the memory remains
and yields fruit
that nourishes on and on.
And so she anticipates
from the pool of her mind
the world of her heart
or the Sun of resplendent light
from any and all
inspiration will dawn
and soon indigo phrases
in her very own script
will fill the linen page.

This was written in response to the June 2009 challenge of Harmony 5: Notable Inspiration. The painting is that of William-Adolph Bouguereau, 1898: Inspiration.

Inspirational work, my friend. You are on a roll.
I don't know what to say. Thank you, Barbra. Well, it is a remarkable painting. There is a lot in that expression of hers. Also, the concept of "inspiration" is fascinating as well. What are the ingredients of inspiration, where does it reside? Is it in the environment or subject consedered? In the capacity of reason? Sitting along the the double-helix of DNA? Can it be delivered from on high? Or is it a major combo platter? Any or all of the above. One has to wonder. Thank you for your response.

A masterpiece, dear David, pure and simple - both poetically and philosophically! :-)
Blessings and best wishes - S.
I am so happy you resonated with with the concepts of these lines. It is rewarding that one such as yourself, with experience of the artistic process, would recognize the described experiences in this little cluster of verse.
