The little woman wanted the house to herself for a few hours, so I went next door to hang out with Joey. Joey and me been best friends since high school, and we been neighbors for the past ten years. We're lucky, our wives like each other.
"Hey man," Joey said as I walked into the garage, "I got some of that new imported Spunkweiser beer. You want one?"
"Sure." I replied.
"Cool," he said as he turned and opened the cooler. "You want dark or light?"
"Give me dark." I said turning a sour expression. "I've seen the light."

LOL. Very clever
Thanks, Kay.
so much packed into so few words. good one, my friend.
Thanks, Mona.
These genre shorties are really helping me develop more judicious word use.
So very funny! I loved the double entendre there.
I think though that proper grammar dictates this: Joey and I have been best friends.
Not Joey and me. I thought I would point that out.
Thanks for posting to my group, Anythingwriting
Glad you enjoyed it, Angela.
You are right about the grammar; but I chose this vernacular in order to set the tone and atmosphere of regular folk. Real people often speak in gramatically incorrect forms.
Very good, baby! And you're right, many folks, including myself do not speak the QUeen's English in conversation...I ain't lyin'!
Thanks, Sweetie.
It's something I read about in a writing book; craft dialogue (or in this case: first person narrative) according to how your characters would actually speak.
yep. thet "dark" ain't much ta brag about................. :)
LOL - Thanks, Penni.
did you know that wayy back in early '06, long before I signed on, I checked the site out and read you, Bill's Spirit? I even remember your post. it was about someone complaining about your chosen name, which I liked a lot, lol, as it is close to my name.......:)
Nope, I did not know that; but the fact that my Gather name, and that something I wrote was memorable to you, sure is good to hear.
Thanks, penni.
You made me laugh out loud, and people stared!!
Awww... Thanks, Liz.
That is one of the most flattering comments.
Okay, that was funny, but I'm not drinking any beer with "spunk" or "weiser" in the name.
LOL - Me neither.
Thanks for the comment, EM JAY.
HA! Oh, you made me LOL.
Now that is very cute Bill, lol
