I went last night with my friend Gloria to see this..orginally we had planned to see The Brother's Bloom...but..Transformers not it off the list!
We were both disappointed with the movie..once again it was watchable ..but ...we were still disappointed. To add to the irritation...there was a bunch of people running in and out of the theater, talking regular to each other..the manager did come in a few times but...to no avail!
After the movie- we walked over to the manager and complained...A) the movie wasn't great(ok not his fault) B) what the heck...he tried to explain that this was a group of Down Syndrome kids and what was he supposed to do...
We had figured out early on that something was not right and it probably was some type of movie trip for disabled persons, but still....I paid for this movie...my friend paid for the movie..we deserved to be able to watch it. This running in and out wasn't once or twice...it was the entire movie. Every five minutes. The theater was one of the smaller ones ..so you really noticed it.
What management could have done is offered us another movie to watch..which they didn't. This is what pisses me off. Not the disabled persons...it was the lack of responsibility on the theater's part.
OK..onto to the movie
Eddie Murphy strikes out again in this movie..it could have been a really good one...but it's not! Now I am not saying it's not watchable,it is. It does have some funny moments, it has some tender moments. It just isn't great.
Yari Shahidi plays his 7 year old daughter Olivia. Olivia walks around with a blanket over her head or in her backpack. She is talking to "imaginary people"....or is she talking to real ones. It turns out that she is talking to real ones and they start giving some good investment advice. Evan(Eddie Murphy) realizes this and they go thru rituals during his week to have custody of her. ?Thoses scenes are cute.
Thomas Haden Church plays Johnny Whitefeather ...an investment advisor who used his Indian bloodlines to come up with flashy pitches( some were good!)
Both Evan and Johnny are in line for a promotion...only one can have it.
It wasn't a great movie....and it is watchable.
