This is the first pet cemetery I have ever been to and it was quite large. It has 10 acres and 10, 000 burials.
Veterinarian Dr. C. W. Woodruff started Animal Kingdom in1918 on a five acre plot and it has grown ever larger. Even though this is a pet cemetery, there are two lots for people to be buried, but they have to be cremated.
Most people pass on their religion to their pets. So seeing St. Francis of Assisi in a pet cemetery is not unususl. Some religious groups (Latter Day Saints for one) believe that animals have a soul and when the resurrection comes the animals will participate as well.

Nice article. Thanks for posting to Hello my Ohio & Gather Friends
I've never seen a pet cemetery. I need to check and see if they have one near me.
Thank you for posting your photo essay at Statues and Headstones.
There is a pet cemetery that we pass on the way to Detroit and several more in Detroit. If I had lots of money, I'd bury my pets in a pet cemetery. But since I'm not rich, they get buried in our back yard or cremated.
We cremated our last dog after he passed away and we have his remains in a nice little oak box they sent them in. The others are in various backyards of our past homes. I just wonder if the owners have done any digging. OOps.
This is the cemetery where my kitty webby is buried, but I didn't put her headstone on here.
Great photo essay!
