Sanford's family aside, GOP sinks all the way south. South America that is.
When Appalachia became Argentina, you knew trail was going to become tail. Sarah Palin, Sanford can school you on foreign affairs. He can teach you Argentinian tango as well (LOL).
These guys are comical, certainly not to their wives and kids, but most definitely to those of us who watch them election after election preaching family values. Moral superiority is certainly not a pre requisite for political office. Unless one makes it his own pre requisite. Gov. Sanford could not live to his own standard. In short he is a hypocrite. Is hypocrisy not longer a sin?
Sanford voted to impeach Bill Clinton while in congress and took the floor to criticize the president. These hypocrites spent a good time of their career trying to take down a president they could not beat after two elections on grounds that he was not fit for office because he had sex while married. Look at them now. Don't tell me it was about lying not sex. Up to this morning, Sanford was lying to everyone. He told journalists he was cruising the coast of Buenos Aires. Only Buenos Aires has no coast.
Sanford called for another congressman to resign for cheating on his wife:
The bottom line, though, is he [Livingston] still lied. He lied under a different oath, and that is the oath to his wife. So it's got to be taken very, very seriously." [Sanford on Livingston, CNN, 12/18/98]
Will the GOP apply to Sanford, Sanford's own standards;
"We ought to ask questions...rather than circle the wagons for one of our tribe." [Sanford on how the GOP reacts to affairs, New York Post, 12/20/98]
On Bill Clinton, he must go Sanford said. We can't have cheaters; it's bad for business:
"I think it would be much better for the country and for him personally (to resign). I come from the business side. If you had a chairman or president in the business world facing these allegations, he'd be gone." [Sanford on Clinton, The Post and Courier, 9/12/98]
"The issue of lying is probably the biggest harm, if you will, to the system of Democratic government, representatives government, because it undermines trust. And if you undermine trust in our system, you undermine everything." [Sanford on Clinton, CNN, 2/16/99]
Politician has an affair? YAWN.
GOP hypocrite? Now that deserves to be pointed out. The only people dumber than these GOP hypocrites are the people who vote for them based on those lies.

"Hoist with his own petard" literally means "blown up with his own mine." More generally, a "petard" is a hat-shaped device which can be be charged with gunpowder.

Samford is just the latest example of the hypocracy that permeates the Republican party. Look at the health care debate -- fourty senators blocking millions of Americans from getting health care when these same senators and their families benefit from a gold plated program paid for by tax payers.
If a health care program is good enough for United States Senators, it's good enough for the American people.
It's a shame that he might go, falling to his own standards. Look at NY, they get of Spitzer to replace him with a guy who was never to be governor and is not up to the task. Sanford is an effective governor in the eyes of the people of South Carolina. They will decide (through polling) if he has to go.
Somebody has to put an end to this idiocy where politicians who have affairs need to hold these press conference circus and so on. That said, this guy is a hypocrite. A hypocrite can still govern in many cases. The hypocrisy needs to stop however.
If South Carolina "forgives" this hypocrite and keeps him as governor, my esteem for this beautiful state will diminish, and it is already very low.
He is not alone, Mark foley who sponsored laws protecting kids from the likes of himself, and all other lawmankers who supported defense of Marriage act yet were endangering their own marrigae with other women or boys.
