Funny how I remember that saying from when I was a child. I don't quite remember when or who I heard it from. Perhaps it had to do with clothing, or shoes, or books, or food. Not quite the same today...is it? Now it's old with the old, in with the new. But when we say out with the old, the old isn't necessarily old, it's just lost it's usefulness to us.
Then we can say, "One's man's trash is another man's treasure!" I don't really think I understood that quite as much when I was a child either. But living how we do today I believe that statement has certainly taken on a bigger meaning. One man's trash can turn into another man's wardrobe, or dinner, or livelihood.
Makes you sit back and think for a minute doesn't it? We live in a disposable society where we don't think anything about tossing aside what we're done with and going out and getting the newer, shinier model. How tragic that is. We have tried so hard to give our children a better life than we had that we've taught them not to appreciate what they have, so they don't. They don't even appreciate us. They know we'll always be there for them, we'll always love them, support them, hug them, and somehow or another help them, no matter what. Huh...what would happen if they were on the receiving end of the other man's treasure?
