One of my favorite lazy-day things to do with Dasha is watch old skating shows my sister and I used to tape off the television. I've always loved figure skating--one of my dreams when I was little was to become an Olympic skater (I wanted to be just like Nancy Kerrigan at that point--as I grew older it became Kristi Yamaguchi), and I seem to have passed my love for the sport down to my daughter.
When she's sick or grumpy, or I'm just too tired to chase her around all day (happening more and more lately, that), we snuggle up on the couch and watch a few routines. Somedays I put it on while she's playing, and she'll pause every now and then to watch, clap, and dance along to the music. Occasionally she'll even tell the skaters "Go go go!" as they launch into a jump!
We don't watch much regular tv at all (Curious George once in a great while, and Babar when we can find it), but I don't feel bad about letting her watch skating. She already loves to sing and dance, and skating helps encourage both those qualities. Now that she's almost two, I plan on getting her a pair of double-bladed skates this winter and introducing her to the ice herself.
Dasha may never be an Olympic figure skater, but even if all she gets from it is a love for beauty and an appreciation for its athleticism, I'll be content!

How fun! I'll bet that will bo so cute to watch! As a girl, I always loved the sparkly costumes they wore.
I saved all my outfits from when I took lessons. Maybe someday Dasha will wear them for dress-up or even when she's skating herself!
I use to love watching them too.
