Where God is Heard
There are so many people
Looking for the truth
While thinking in absolutes
It will always stay aloof
Others quote great book
Saying that it is indeed
Yet they are missing out
On what they really need
Moses, Mohammed and Ghandi
Were truly a few great men
But have we truly learned
What we should from them?
Even the Son of Man
Jesus Christ is his name
What did he show to us
What brought about his fame?
Too many quote their words
But have missed their central theme
God is a being of love
But personal to the extreme
He knows when our soul
Is in need of love and truth
And in so many places
Has placed our needed proof
All too often misled
By those who manipulate words
Instead of listening to their hearts
Where God can be heard.
1 Kings 19:11-13
11. And he said, "Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD." And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: 12. And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. 13. And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, "What doest thou here, Elijah?"

Elijah was one of God's great prophets of the old Bible. These stories are good for our examples today, but we will never have to suffer as the believers did in the old Bible since Jesus came and died on the cross for all men and women's sins.
The Holy Ghost comes and goes on its own, it has a mind of it own and is totally separate from Jesus, the Father, man and the angels in heaven. It is the great comforter that Jesus sent back after he left his disciples at the great supper. He said to them I must go away, but I will not leave you comfortless, I will send back to you the Holy Ghost that will give witness of me, it will lead and guide you into all the truth and will tell you things to come.
Elijah was a true prophet of God. One of his assignments was to "kill" all the false prophets. He did as he was commanded and proved that among 100's of false prophets, he was the one and only true prophet of God. After his work, he had nothing to eat and felt as though his life was over, but God commanded, I believe, it was the "ravens" to bring food to him and he did eat and went on to serve God. He was delivered from death, however, knew that this was also an appointment he must keep at some point in time, just not at that time.
Thank you for your comments Connie! The Bible is there to remind and inspire us. It is just sad what some people do in God's name.....
Amen, lisa
Lovely poem, Lisa. I spent a good deal of my life searching "outside" for God. Imagine my shock when I discovered him in my own heart! But, I still believe that religion can be very toxic. As a wise man once told me, "religion is for people who are afraid of going to hell while spirituality is for people who have been to hell".
Amen Spartan. After spending many years wanting for someone or something to reveal the spirit to me it was quite a relief and shock to find the spirit had resided inside of me and inside of everything thing else forever, all the while quietly waiting for me to figure that out.
Thank you Spartan and Robert! It is amazing to me that people can't hear HIm, or look at the beauty of creation and know his love, but then I see what some people do claiming to be in "His" name and I am sure I am not the only one appalled!
absolutely a pious poem
Thank you Dr Saxena, I am honored by your words!
Thanks Lisa, your poem is certainly food for thought. I think this verse says a lot.

very beautiful and to the point
Thanks Brian! I usually don't write poetic Ballads, it isn't my strong suit, though I am good at keeping my mouth running...LOL
Hugs and Blessings
It's sad what is said and done under the claim that people are acting under God's instructions.
You are so right John! Anything that harms another needlessly is always a bad sign, whether through violence, or words.
Well said Lisa

You said this very well, Lisa. If we were listening to Jesus and really living what he practiced and he preached, our country would not have so many ills. I think about this all the time. We do not live the love Christ presented to us. It is sad to me.
Yes, Lynn, but we both know with God on our side, that love can brighten one more life, and spread to one more soul. By living the example of Love that Christ set forth, we can spread it a little farther! Hugs and Blessings!
I like how you incorporate questions into your poem. A thoughtful write.
Somewhat in the tone of a sermon chant. I'm glad it was generic enough not to directly espouse one faith.
The point of the "sermon" is that no one faith has all the answers. We have to listen to God for the answers that are right. It is as individual as there are people in the world. I can't judge and shouldn't judge another's choices.
Amen. I'm glad you have such thoughts.
Lots of good points, Lisa.
Thank you Spencer
would that i could believe as you.
as it stands, my moniker may best be reflected in the New Testament.
"Lest I see with mine eyes..."
Amen to that! Well written
