Yesterday's mail brought a very special gift that still has me smiling.
Do you other Geezers remember the rock group "America"? They had some huge hits including A Horse With No Name and Sister Golden Hair.
Saturday night "America" played a town in Illinois that happens to be near our Sue*. She bought tickets and decided to surprise her husband for Father's Day.
Saturday night turned stormy and when that happens, Sue*'s husband has to stay on the job. She ended up going to the show with her son, but her husband did get there by the fourth song.
When I found out Sue*'s plans of going to see "America," I told her how much I love and always have loved their song, Sister Golden Hair and how much I'd love to see them, too. I even looked up their tour schedule for the rest of the year to see if they'd be anywhere near us. Alas, no such luck.
Imagine my surprise when I opened a big, flat envelope in yesterday's mail and found not only a photo of "America," but it was signed to me!

I really want to thank you, Sue* for being so thoughtful and bringing such a big smile across the miles. It's framed, it's up and is sharing wall space with Elvis himself, so you know how dear it is to me. This is one of the best surprises I've ever received.

Dang, I should've imbedded the song, Sister Golden Hair. *hits self on forehead*
You can edit an add it. (Now, that sounds ridiculous.)
I found it from the 70s. Heck, I might have seen them live in the 70s. I wouldn't remember it if I did.
That's just too cool, Vicky. Way to go, Sue*!
What a cool thing to do! It's the next best thing to being there, right?
She knocked my socks off with this. And to get it so fast!
Oh, wow!!!
That is such a great thing for Sue to do! I am blubbering here... :-)
Hugging you both across the miles!
Wasn't that the sweetest thing, Duckie?
and you look great in the picture too. is that the new makeup you got that your wearing?
Yep, that's the new war paint, CC. I've also gained a needed 15 pounds since I saw you. It fills in some of the deepest sags and bags.
must have been all the ice cream and mashed potatoes. :)
And corn! And not barfing!
You look wonderful!
I've heard the song the zillion times but never knew the name of it.
You might have seen them in concert and have no cognitive memory, Ron. It was the mid 70s, ya know.
Of course I can't remember the 70s but I lived in Wyoming and not many concerts made it past Denver. I might have gone to three.
I have to thank both Vicky and Sue for getting "Sister Golden Hair" stuck in my head -- it's rare that I get an earworm I like...
You're welcome, Kris... it could be lots worse.
What a wonderful heart happy present for Sue to give you.
I remember America and the song Sister Golden Hair and thanks for the video as well to enjoy while I comment. Brings back a flood of memories...WOW...amazing how a song can do that to you : - )
This song brings a deluge of emotion in me, too, Katherine, and I'm not sure why. Something must've been going on at the time it was popular that connected with the song.
Let's see, I was in High School, just starting to date...party...etc...very popular song at the time ...I get a feeling of bygone days and friends washing over me...
Woo-Hoo! What a great surprise!!! Love that song!
Oh, this has been one of the nicest surprises I've ever had.
That was very nice! What a great friend! That's wonderful!
Sue* is truly one of the nicest, "goodest" people I've met on the 'net and I've been here since 94.
Cool. :)
Aw-it was my pleasure. I just wish you had been at the concert with me! You do look great...the new makeup is perfect, and the added weight makes you look healthy again! Thanks for this...it was sweet.
There was a photo that was better of the autograph but I looked like a seizure was about to start, so I picked this one. Van will only play photographer for a couple of minutes at a time.
Anyway, thanks again, Sue, I can't remember when the last time I opened something in the mail and gasped. You really hit that one out of the ballpark.
that is very cool ...way to go, Sue :)
Isn't she something, flit? Good to see you flitting through.
What a great surprise for you.
I don't remember the band, but I've a strong feeling that they aren't my cup of tea anyway.
If you don't remember them, you may even have been a fan. What do they say, "if you remember the 70s you weren't really there," or is that the 60s?
I think it depends on how old you are, young lady.;o)
What an awesome gift that was! I smiled through the whole article, and haven't stopped yet.
I love the friendships we've forged here. Where else in the world can things like this happen?
I think it's cool how when there's a chance to make someone's day, week, month - whatever, one of us does it. I haven't forgotten other beautiful things that have been a complete surprise, either, and you know what I'm talking about :)
It is delightful and I am so happy for you.
What a lovely surprise for you! How cool of Sue*.
You look good in that picture too, Vicky. You are very lucky to have people like Sue* in your life.
What a generous and thoughtful gift! I loved America!
That's an awesome gift. I vaguely remember the band.
Sue is such a wonderful person! What a lovely thing to do!
VICKY! Are you all done up in your new makeup in that photo, too?! You look amazing!
Now I have to find out what it is and get my grubby little mitts on some!
I agree: Sue is an AWESOMINGLY AMAZING friend to have.
Vicky ,this 'Geezer' remembers America ,very fondly. Sue ,you're a Peach !
Love that song. I saw them in concert so many, many years ago.
What a pleasure to read something so happy and upbeat! And you look wonderful!
great friend you have
What an awesome gift for her to give you. You can really meet some wonderful folks here at Gather. Glad Sues surprise made you smile.
