It's been a few days since I updated our vacation posts. On day 3, Friday, the kids and I ventured into St. Ignace, and saw a few things. One of the things we did was the Mystery Spot. This was what Gilly was really looking forward to, and talked about non-stop before the vacation.

I'm glad it didn't disappoint her, though I could tell you now that the only thing "mystical" about the Mystery Spot, is that they built everything at crazy angles to mess with perception. Only 1 or 2 things were truly all that amazing. The rest was all based on altered perceptions.

Still, that said, it was fun to see and watch. We were allowed to take both pictures and videos, which I took advantage of. When we got there, I noticed a Mini-Golf course across the street, as well as a maze. For $2 more per person, we could do all 3, so I got us the combo pass.
The Mystery Spot is a guided tour, which starts off with showing how someone in the Mystery Spot is shorter than someone of equal height standing outside of it. That's one of the only two things I'm not sure on. The perception wasn't altered at that point- we were outside. They used a level to show that the blocks both inside and outside were the same level, and that they were level apart.
For this, they used Gillian and another little boy as their example. When Gilly stood on one block, she looked shorter than the boy. When they swapped back, he looked shorter than her. I'm sure it was just perception, though.

Inside, we came to the famous ball rolling up a hill- except, it didn't look like a hill to me. It looked flat. It definitely wasn't some huge feat of amazing-ness.

We all got a chance through out the tour to be used as examples, and it was fun. I got to try and climb a wall- of course, the "wall" was almost flat going outward, instead of up, but being built on an extreme hill made it seem like a crazy angle.

All in all, it was a fun stop.

Next, we went across the street to explore the maze, then we played a S-L-O-W round of mini golf. Once we were done with that, the kids wanted to go back through the maze, so we did. Both the maze, and the golf was fun, and made the stop a longer stop than anticipated. When we left, we stopped at McDonalds to get an ice cream cone each, and went to a store that had a roof top platform to view the Mackinac Bridge.

We had a great time in St. Ignace, but it was a long warm day. When we went back to the park, we relaxed, then had to run into town to get hot dogs, of all things, which I had forgotten when we got groceries.

I had already had a long day by then- Chris had 3 melt downs that day while we were out and about. The kids were fighting. The whole dinner fiasco took almost 2 hours, because Raegan went to find the bathroom, and didn't come back, and I couldn't get hot dogs at the camp store. I was irritated, and not looking forward to several more days of this.

That evening, I checked the weather, and saw that on Saturday evening, it was supposed to start thunderstorming, then rain for 3 days. NOT FUN! Here I was, sitting in a tent, and it was supposed to rain for 3 days straight, after a rousing all night long thunderstorm.

I made an executive decision at that point. We were supposed to do 2 more things on our vacation- Mackinac Island, and Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park. I had tickets for both, but Mackinac Island was more expensive, and the tickets for the park I'd used other times, so we decided to pack up as much as we could Friday night, finish Saturday morning, check out, and go to the island.
We decided to head home on Saturday after the island. More on that later!

Sounds like you are having a lot of fun on your holidays!!
Thanks Vicki- we did have a fun time, but it's good to be home.
Everyone had lots of fun, nice photos
Looks fun! I think I might try to take Elliott to his first game of mini golf this summer.
It looks like a really fun place. With three kids I can just imagine the grey hair they must have given you.
I dye it just so I don't have to find out! ;)
My sister went to a place like this in wisconsin, from what I remember was that it wasn't altered perception it was something about the area, water would run up hill and levels would show you things were level even if they didn't appear to be to the eye, but i wouldn't know for sure I have never been there.
Yeah, in theory, that's what this place is. However, when I took photos, and tilted them to the flat angles, most of the stuff was going where it should. They built this shack on top of a steep hill, with the shack jutting out away from the hill. So, already, you have the building going one way, and the floor going the opposite way. When you go back and look at it from the true angles, the "uphill" water is flowing naturally, etc. It's just that the angles you're seeing mess with how you think things are supposed to be going.
*nods* I can't remember what he place in wisconsin was called
yep you are right altered perception it sounds like there are alot of these attractions accross the us http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mystery_Spot
This looks very cool!
