I voted on the poll
How can one live in the South and NOT have potato salad? Not having potato salad on the 4th should be considered a crime!
I agree, Kerrell!
I'm also in agreement! Has to be potato salad.
Potato Salad is #1, but don't forget the Baked Beans to go with it.
Gotta have homemade potato salad!
I dont really mind the traditional 4th of july dish but i really love BBQ on the stick and fruits on the grill(grilled fruits ). Hmm Hmm yummy.
Grilled fruit is a must have. YUMMMMM
timi,
Notify all of us when the fruit is grilling! Yummers!
I host all the family cookouts each year and our must haves are: hot dogs, burgers, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, broccoli salad, bread pudding, watermelon, cake, cookies, peanut butter pie and lots of other things I can't think of right now.
Like Yellow squash pickles...
We usually grill salmon on the 4th :)
Lol~ Cute poll =) Shame you didnt' have chicken on the meat list. mmm mmm I love bar-b-que chicken on the grill~ just can't beat that =)
Fourth of July was always my favorite holiday. Let freedom ring~ =)
Have a fantastic day~
I agree! That would have been my choice. My husband has been grilling a lot due to the heat, steak, chicken and hot dogs and I take the chicken every time.
Melanie, guess we're stuck with chicken burgers and chicken hotdogs, huh?
Melanie S~ It's almost a must for grilling out during the summer heat. Just boiling some water on the stove. Brings up the temp in the kitchen something awful! lol Chicken hands down~ ;-) There's just something about bar-b-que chicken from the grill. mm mm ~ wish I had some now
Lynn P~ ewwwww chicken burgers, do they really have those? lol~ And if we use chicken hot dogs. Those bad boys have to be burnt to a crisp for me. With plenty of mustard, relish and onions. Um maybe even some chili to take the taste away. lol
Happy July 4th~!
would have picked chicken too!!!
I don't do a lot of BBQ in the summer because my neighbors hog the grill! I go up to Santa Ysabel and buy some of their summer foods. I love macaroni and potato salad. And, I love ribs, too. I remember when I was visiting my dad in Michigan we had ribs all the time. The short ribs are the best!
On the 4th we usually have a bbq and one of my fave recipes is carribean jerk chicken on the grill, we marinade it overnight in the sauce and then grill it. It tastes soooo good. We also do shrimp every year on the grill with the teriaki sauce.
That was a fun poll!
I voted!!! Its hard to pick my favorite summer hoilday though because I just LOVE SUMMER!
The reason I prefer hot dogs on the grill is that often the burgers are cooked inproperly and I worry more about them being unsafe to eat.
We alway barbeque burgers and end the night with S'mores!
I like bbq ribs and sausage on the grill with bbq sause is really good, especially with potato salad on the side.
Living in Florida we are fortunate to grill year round. Yesterday we had steak on the grill. With my husband working from home, it's nice too, to have lunch from the grill.
We love to bbq, our motto is the more the merrier, we invite all of our friends & make a big variety of food, so everyone gets what they like. Our typical menu is:
Ribs, tri tip, flank steaks, shish kabobs, chicken & hot links. We serve it with home made Mac & cheese, macaroni salad, rice, chiili beans, potatoe chips & doritos ranch style dip, guacamole, & salsa.
4th of July foods are the All American burgers (with cheese), homemade potato salad, maybe a hot dog or two, and must have some grilled corn on the cob. For the corn, we just place the ear of corn in some tin foil, makes sure there's plenty of butter on it and close up the foil. Easy and wonderful.
my votes are in on our 4th of july we roast a hog over an open pit make roastin ears and all of the old granny ladies in the town bring dishes there is music useally country , gospel and bluegrass homade icecream its a big event for the town we are all country folk as you well know
I say do 'em all on the forth! The more variety the better... ;-)
I'm love all BBQ food in the summer, especially burgers on the grill, yummy!
Our family loves burgers, brats, bbq chicken and kebobs. For side dishes, we always use mom's famous beans, potato salad, pasta salads or fresh veggies. For dessert, mom will always make something starring summer fruits.
Good eatin'!
Since Shanny is my sister, I have to piggyback on her answer.
Although, her famous beans are pork n beans, ketchup, brown sugar, bacon, and onions. THE best!
that was a fun poll! the Fourth of July has always been a favorite holiday of mine and since my daughtere was born on the 4th is has become even more special. One of our favorite dishes is an Italian pasta salad. we use spiral macaroni, Italian dressing, provolone cheese chunks, salami chunks, black olives, and green and red peppers. It is wonderful and not to "heavy".
I like the recipe my mom gave me and has always used for Cole Slaw. It doesn't use a lot of heavy mayo in it just a little and it has Apple Cider Vinegar
Also, potato salad that uses a little mustard without so much mayo
Both recipes for summer are good because they aren't as heavy as some of the traditional recipes I've tasted
Bar-b-qued chicken, potato salad, baked beans, corn on the cob and watermelon. Nothing better even though I don't eat meat anymore. I'd fill up on the sides. Maybe add some grilled marinaded eggplant. Too close to lunch time, making myself hungry. Potatoes and onions grilled in foil. Love almost anything grilled.
very nice poll. awesome layout!
We don't really have any speical 4th of July foods that we eat.....It's usually just burgers, chips, and pop. We may make a cake with an American Flag on top....
I love summer, it's the only time I can get hubby to cook. You forgot baked beans, cole slaw and brats. Gotta have mayo, too for hubby but i'm a mustard and ketchup girl myself. Pickles and onions, too. A MUST HAVE at any cookout! ;)
BTW our granddaughter was born on July 4th. Can't have any other favorite holiday around here.
My husband loves to grill. I think we'll be doing steak, corn on the cob, and some foil packets with potatoes, onions and mushrooms in them for the fourth.
We love bbq! Usually chicken, hamburgers and hot dogs are at our bbq's. I don't usually ge to eat the hot dogs because I have to have ones that are all beef or I get very, very, very, very very ill. :(
I love my Mom's potato salad too! And of course I always have to make a rockin' dessert.
Burgers,Macaroni sald and baked beans
Where was the chicken?? I love grilled chicken. Either BBQed or for boneless skinless breasts I marinate them in a bit of lemon jucie and rosemary. They only take a few minutes on the grill and oh so good.
Also love grilled veggies
We BBQ all year round when we can.
just completed the poll.
Sorry, no hamburgers for me.
We love chicken, hamburgers, hotdogs, steaks...anything on the grill! I love grilled corn on the cob, or kebobs! I don't like potato salad though, because I don't like eggs. I can eat pasta salad...but not traditional macaroni salad.
The 4th needs to have a big fruit salad in a watermelon bowl, I am drooling just thinking about it.
I voted on the poll:) Our fav food to cook on the 4th of july is ribs on the grill. We take a big rack of rips and rub them with bbq sauce then cook over med heat on the grill. We also take corn on the cob, shuck it and wrap it in tin foil and throw that on the grill. Its so yummy
The 4th of July is my favorite summer holiday and has always been. When I was little my dad, mom, aunt and uncle would always rent a beach house for the week before and at least 2 weeks after the 4th and we would be there. The fireworks were awesome and always good things coming off the grill.
I am always in the kitchen days before preparing! This year in addition to the 4th, we will also have a birthday party for 3 of the grandchildren. SHould prove to be interesting and fun!
Got it, thanks!
Oh my favorite food on 4th of July would a rack of ribs melting in butter & BBQ sauce. With a side grilled asparagus & honey dew melon. So good!
I took the poll. I think one of my favorite summertime foods is corn on the cob cooked on the grill and smothered in butter!! YUM!
i think you need neither buttons on a few of those.
my favorite 4th of july foods are Steamed Clams and Szalonna (a hungarian dish). unfortunately since i live in a different part of the country than the rest of my family who have this every 4th of july, i don't get to have them.
Great poll but now I want to grill out, but sadly I have to go to work.
But ribs on the grill beat out hamburgers and hot dogs like a million to one
I voted for hot dog, but I actually favor bratwurst.
My favorite food to prepare is food I don't have to prepare other than to get it out of the refrigerator and cupboards.
For our party last year, I was happy with bratwurst, big hot dog buns from the bakery, mustard, and most any kind of chip. Keith wanted ribs, so he prepared ribs. And my mother insisted I needed to serve salad, so I dumped romaine lettuce in a big bowl with shredded cheese, cucumbers, and cesar salad dressing. Tasted fine.
I voted ... and the only answer I had with the majority was the potato salad :)
mmmmmm, hot dogs :) with mustard :0)
I voted for hot dogs, mustard, and potato salad, too. :-)
There's so many things I like with a barbeque... some burgers or hots, chicken or steak. I'll eat a wide variety of meats cooked this way. Sides can be macaroni or potate salad, beans, tossed salad, veggies (including grilled corn on the cob). I have to stop no or I'm going out to grill my computer mouse. Now, I'm really hungry for a barbeque.
My husband is a huge griller. He grills all the time, hes an awsome cook. For the fourth of july I would say he's going to grill hot dogs and we'll have chips and dips. I definately want a get a watermelon too!
Great poll, I voted. I like hot dogs and hamburgers both equally the same.
When one of my sisters lived in my state, she made this ice cream sherbert watermellon. first she smushed lime sherbert in a bowl and pushed it in then she mixed chocolate chips in with rasberry sherbert and filled the bowl. then you could freeze it . tip it upside down and take the bowl off and slice like watermellon.
I thnk this is how it is done. Was a long time ago.
That sounds fun!
Triple Baked Beans. There's bacon, burger, baked beans, kidney beans, butter beans, mollasses, onion, ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, and vinegar. I use a cast iron dutch oven. First I fry the bacon, then I fry the burger in the bacon grease. I remove MOST of the grease, being careful to leave the stuff on the bottom. Deglaze the bottom with the beans and add everything else. Then, I bake it all in the oven for a couple of hours on low heat. It's always everyone's favorite dish.
For the 4th we usually do chicken. Chicken is way better than hot dogs and hamburgers.
I voted! We make almost every meal on the grill from about late April, till early October. It's nice being outside, and it doesn't heat the house up. Meals are quick and easy.
We toss an assortment of meats, veggies, and even breads on the grill when we cook. Because we grill so much, we have to have some variety.
As for sides- fresh fruit, chips & dip, salads, baked beans, and so much more.
For us, the 4th is the best holiday. We're having friends over for a BBQ that day.
The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays and all this chatting about it is getting me excited! Our town is celebrating its 275th anniversary this year so I think we'll see some great fireworks!
Burgers, potato salad. baled beans . And home made Ice Cream.
I voted in the poll I like to BBQ ribs or steak especially fillet and than have some different cold salads or baked potato
that was fun. Happy bbq days everyone.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE hamburgers (I make mine kind of like meatballs, mixing the ground beef with egg, a little milk, ketchup, bread crumbs, seasonings - I like them moist) with red onion, spinach, tomato, mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, and the bun a little toasted. YUM!
I completed the poll and really needed more choices or neither. I bet neither would have beat hot dogs and hamburgers with so many people in this country that don't eat either one.
I would have voted for chicken, baked beans, baked potato, fruit salad, with some homemade bread. I picked Memorial Day, as it was my birthday.
I agree with MAry, I prefer Ribs on the Fourth
And I serve, Grilled Chicken, ribs, Hotdogs & Baked Beans, Cheese burgers and shrimp kabobs & steamed clams. For sides we have Baked Beans, Macaroni , Potatoe, cucumber & fruit salads, deviled eggs. Corn on the cob, and sliced NJ tomatoes we also have a cracker & cheese plate. For dessert we usually have blueberry pie with homemade Ice Cream and when we leav to go seethe Firewroks we take along some homemade LEmonade and some homemade flag shaped sugar cookies that are decorated with red white & blue icing.
I completed the poll as well. I love salads for 4th of July.
I particpated in the poll. July 4th is BBQ time for my family in fact thats what summer is for that and to celebrate my birthday! I love doing hot dogs and chcken on the grilll vegtables are great to the fun and great smells are what its all about!
I completed the poll.
Definitely a burger, but make mine a veggie one. I'll take both pasta and potato salad, although pasta salad does win out.
I participated in the poll. My favorite summer food is BBQ chicken on the grill. That is the best, hands down. I like it with coleslaw, french fries and maybe some corn on the cobb.
I love potato salad with my burger. I prefer yellow to white potato salad that dash of mustard gives it an extra zing.
We usually grill pork ribs and side items are usually rosemary - garlic roasted potatoes, grilled asparagus and squash, melon balls and yeast rolls. Dessert is always homemade ice cream topped with strawberries.
I went with burgers/mustard/potatoe salad/salsa as a dip and 4th of july. That said, I love chicken on the grill with some buffalo sauce...
I voted although I have to ketchup AND mustard on my burger. My favorite dishes are fruit salad, 4th of July Flag cake and devilled eggs!
There is no option for both. So I could only vote on the last question.
I would have to say my favorite summer grilling food has to be Italian sausage with pepper and onions of course I love the burgers too!
I voted
I voted but now I'm hungry. Why must people describe their favorites in such detail?
-R.
has to be hotdogs on the grill, corn on the cob, potatoe salad and watermelon..
my favorite dish is a tomato/cucumber/feta salad - just cube tomatos, cucumber, and onion if you like, add feta cheese crumbles and italian dressing and mix...try it...it's great!
Hi Colleen - try adding extra virgin olive oil, lemon juice, salt, pepper, oregano and any other spice you like to your tomato salad. You will love the taste and it's healthy. :)
I love grilling anytime! It's soooo hot here and my husband is at the College World Series and the news just said a heat advisory. Let's add lots of water to that BBQ.
I'm all for grilled veggie burgers and potato salad.
My favorite item on the grill is grilled stuffed zucchinni and mushrooms! It's a little time-consuming, so I don't have it often, but it's delicious!
I grill everything, so it's hard to pick ONE grill recipe, but one of my favorites is chicken breasts, marinated in an oil and lime juice mixture with green chilies, garlic, and lots of black pepper. You grill it, top it with Seriiously Sharp Cheddar, and then top with some fresh (or otherwise good) salsa.
Did it... We have to use the communal grills here at our complex because if you own a grill you have to take it 20 ft. from the building.. so lugging it in and out of the apartment into the parking lot just isn't up our alley. I grill just about anything..fruit, veggies, fish, quesadillas, meats.. can even do pasta and breakfast on the grill...
I voted!!
must have hambugers with those fireworks:)
I like it all, ribs and dogs, hamburger and brat. Potato salad is a must. Love a few ears of corn and of course you gotta have watermelon on the 4th.
Oh yes and I voted of course:)
That was fun, but I think they got it confused on the holidays as I beleive my birthday is July 5 and that is what everyone is celebrating, right? LOL
although ketchup is a must so is mustard on my burgers and dogs!!
Lol I'm different than most everyone! lol
Chicken! yum yum, must have chicken!
we bbq almost all summer. We make what we call yummy chicken, which a a spice packet we buy. Hubby loves burgers, I love hot dogs... we are learning right now how to bbq pork chops
that was fun. i love my burgers with mustard and potatoe salad on the side with chips and salsa. lol
can you tell i took the poll
Salsa is a dip and topping, duh :)
I did the poll.
I agree chicken and pasta salads and potatoe salads. I would have like to have answered ALL of the Above for some of these questions.
I voted. My favorite dish is Red, White & Blue. Strawberry jello with fresh strawberries, topped with fresh blueberries, and then a whole lot of cool whip or homemade whipped cream. If you put it in individual trifle glasses or a big glass dish, the layers of colors turns out so pretty!
Burgers all the way with ketchup and potato salad. BOOM!
Favorite 4th of July recipes are the all american dishes, hot dogs, hamburgers, potoato salad. YUM.
