Watching tonight's episode of Jon & Kate Plus 8 left me fuming. I already knew the answer to what would happened because the story broke before the show aired. Jon and Kate officially separated today.
Thr
oughout tonight's hour long episode, the couple did their interviews solo. Though the announcement wasn't made until the end, it was painfully obvious the entire show they were no longer together in the marriage sense. Kate appeared truly upset by the way the events had played out. However, Jon seemed as though he had grown a back bone. His confidence had sky rocked. He talked about not being bossed around. And he looked so smug with his newly grown hair and pierced ears. This time it was Jon who was annoying me more than Kate!
By the end of the show, I was equally disgusted with both when the highly anticipated Jon and Kate Plus 8 announcement was made. Why end their relationship? How about ending the show?!?! Their decision was absolutely selfish and was not made in the best interest of their children.
Jon and Kate, take some time to get counseling and away from those cameras! Your kids deserve to have their parents make a bigger effort to keep the family together.

Didn't watch it so I'm just reading this now. I kinda figured that was the announcement, but they should have just said it not made a show about it. I will not be watching this show any longer. I've lost all respect for them. They just want to exploit their children for money and they are selfish horrible parents.
The group over at vostuu found out about this last week and uploaded a "behind the scenes" video of Jon and Kate discussing it with the producers to the over at http://vostuu.com/watch28015.html ... they ALSO uploaded the divorce papers for any of you who want to see them to http://www.vostuu.com/file2018451.html
I am not surprised one bit. Personally, I don't know how Jon put up with her all those years....I've only seen the show a handful of times, and Kate was always so nasty to him. I do think the cameras need to go....
We're not there. Viewers get to peek into their lives but the fact remains that we're not there. Only they can determine if this is the right decision for them.
It could possibly be that getting rid of the cameras would do nothing at all to change things. Although, personally, I wouldn't have ever put my family through that strain to begin with.
I'm not surprised. I'm glad that Jon is developing some confidence and assertiveness. I quit watching the show because I couldn't stand the way Kate treated him. But I think they need to step out of the world of reality TV. It's not good for their kids.
I hope the couple made an effort to get some outside help before making such a program. As Dr. Phil says when you have children you have to earn the right to get out of a marriage. It's hard to know the "truth" of what is going on in their marriage and family. The children are my concern. This is tough for any child but to have the cameras around all the time. I agree with Jodie it does seem like it is time to focus on the family and not the show. Hopefully they have tucked away some of the money they've earned.
I meant decision not program.
Wow, you're doing very well with the pageviews here!
Anyway, I think they're stupid. Of course they need to say screw the show and work on themselves off-screen, but they're both too selfish to do that. What a horrible shame for the +8.
My heart breaks for all of them because they all suffer. Fame and fortune changed their lives. We only see a small portion of their lives and we can't judge them for what is going on in their lives. I pray that they find their way back to one another and they can keep the show going. I wish them much happiness.
I have blogged about this story several times. It's sad and in my opinion the cameras should have been turned off already. Sure, the first couple of years were cute....they were babies and toddlers and we all got a glimpse of what seemed like a normal couple dealing with the craziness of having 8 kids. THEN the money started really rolling in....book deals, tv appearances. I think things started getting out of control and mom and dad were in it for the wrong reasons. Now the "STAR" status has hit both of them. They are in magazines and on tabloid tv shows. The paparazzi is following their every move. I honestly think they crave the attention now (JON & KATE) But what about the 8? Isn't that what the show was focused around in the first place? What about them?
All of this has definetly put a strain on their marriage. If the cameras were off, would they still he having issues? WHO KNOWS? But at least it wouldn't be on air for everyone to view.
Also, the kids are 5 now. They are older. It's just not as fun watching them now.
I say pull the plug. END THE SHOW!

I have not watched, and will not watch, even one episode of the show.
It's their marriage, and their decision, end of story. But, having the cameras around didn't help. There was a series on PBS that followed a family (it would now be called a reality show), and they had a lot of negative changes that mostly came about from being under public scrutiny 24/7.
