BLUE JAY FAMILY
06~22~09
Earlier today I was out front looking for photo ops and heard a terrible racket over to the south of me, so I walk to investigate and this is what I saw...

I'm thinking, Jr comes out with Mom and Dad,
Dad is yelling at Jr to keep up,
Jr arrives
then wants to go down on the ground
which leaves Dad alone on the roof
yelling at Mom and Jr to watch out for the human.
Sorry the photos aren't as clear as I would like, but they were in the shade, on the roof and I snapped as quick as I could

I've had experiences of getting too close to jays' nests and they dive bombed me and got the message across... get the heck away from here. I did!
Never been dive bombed yet, but can hear them inside the house when they get stirred up about something
Wonderful shots of the Jay family! I don't see to many around here.
Thank you for posting your photo essay at Pretty Pictures.
And you get such lovely birds there that I never get to see here ...: - )
The Jays are always around and I'm glad, I think they're beautiful birds
Katherine, this is quite a treat. I bet they were NOISY! They're mean birds, but I still enjoy watching them. You got some good pictures of them. Be back in the morning to take a closer look. Hope you are enjoying your evening.
I am or did have a good evening Lynn, couldn't sleep so got back on.
BlueJays are loud but I haven't seen them being mean, but have heard they can be
Yes, the blue jays can really make alot of racket... but they are so pretty, Katherine!
I'd love for you to post this photo essay to *My Bird Shots*!
Thanks Sue for the invite...but I'm not sure I'd have a lot to share as my bird shots are few and far between
Cool! That's quite a few Jays. Nice photos!
Thanks Marianne... you're up early...going to watch another awesome sunrise this morning? I couldn't sleep...then Tanner got sick and threw up on the top sheet of the bed and the carpet...GROSS thing to deal with at 4am
The photos were excellent Kathy! I loved them :-) Blue Jays are so cool, I even like their call. Such pretty birds!
Thanks Pamela, Blue Jays are one of my favorite birds, probably because I see them all the time and know their call so well...them and Cardinals are always around here and when they aren't...I worry
But dang, they are hard to catch in a photo...so quick and always watchful
they are so smart..and handsome in appearance with the blue and white..
but they are vert vicious predators and will kill every other smaller bird around..take eggs ,destroy nests..
the only other bird that they are afraid of is the woodpecker..any type..we've witnessed many standoffs here between the jay and woodpecker with woody triumphing in the end..that beak..all business!
Wood peckers are seen off and on around here...I'm always thrilled to see them
Didn't know that about blue jays being afraid of woodpeckers. But we don't have woodpeckers here either. Not anymore. The blue jays really get into it with the mockingbirds. I get the impression the mockingbirds win. Don't know for sure.
Well, off to work now. Take care. Will be looking later tonight to see if you post again.
I wonder what happened down your way to scare off so many birds Lynn...kind of scary isn't it?
What fun to see a new family learning how to fly and make it in this world.
It is great to be able to sit down and view the photos now...I didn't know what was going on when I was taking the photos and it does look as if the parents are there with a jr.
I dont think I have seen them congreate together like that. Very good photos. I always loved to watch them eating from my bird feeder. It fell apart and hasn't been rebuilt.
I hadn't either Norma, I've see pairs in the trees, but not together like this
We hardly ever see blue jays here anymore!
Too sad to hear, what birds do you see where you are? I'd really miss the Blue Jays if I didn't see them
Oh, nice!
Lovely photos. I have never seen a whole family of Blue Jays at once. Quite a treat Thank you.
Thanks...I hadn't either Marge, and out of no where...there they were...I'm so glad I had my camera
It must have been so cool to see those blue jays in person! Thanks for posting your shots.
It was one of those awe moments for sure Christine
Great capture of these raucous beauties!!
Thanks Alison, I've seen them in the tree next door since, but not all 3 of them together
Good shots ,I liked 'em !
Do they look like they might stick around for a while? We have a wholel flock of blue jays on our street, but they stay a few doors down on the opposite side of the street for the most part. So we see them from time to time, just not all day everyday. It's nice. I do wish the pigeons would stay across the street. They visit way more than I care for.
They're hanging around in the tree next door Lynn, I've seen two of them in the past few days. Usually I hear them before I see them... : - )
We have several that live in our 'hood, but of course I can't get a shot of them.
They are watchful and quick to hide, but the one good thing...they can't keep quite and that helps you to track them : - )
Just dropping in to enjoy this photos again.
that should be these photos.
