I'm really excited! :^D I got an email from the editor of "Schmap.com" a couple of weeks ago saying they were considering a photo I took of the Marin County Civic Center and posted on flickr.com for their iPhone tour guide!
They wanted me to go and submit an online permission form for them to use it if I wanted to do that -- saying they were considering other photos and that they might not use it this time but, if it was okay with me, they'd consider it for their next publication of the guide if I wanted to go ahead and submit the permission form anyway... I think they update their guide at least a couple of times per year.
Anyway, I submitted the form and I got another email a couple of days ago from the editor at the iPhone part of Schmap.com that said they'd chosen my photo for the guide and they'd just published it!!!
I wasn't really familiar with "Schmap" but, evidentally, it's a pretty popular guide because they have reviews about their service on their site from Time Magazine and other popular publications.
I don't have the actual URL for accessing the photo in the guide itself (I think because you have to have an iPhone or something like that to actually do that -- and I don't) but they did give me a URL that shows what the listing looks like with my photo on it:
www.schmap.com/?m=iphone#uid=sanfrancisco&sid=activities_guided&p=23856&i=23856_6
I took a "screenshot", though, of it for you to see if you don't want to "go there":

I know what you want to ask -- No, I'm not getting any money for it but, heck, at least my name is out there associated with photography and that's pretty cool, I think!
I think they chose that photo (well, duh, because it was of a subject they were doing but, there's lots of other photos, I'm sure, of that same building in TONS of places...) because they are limited to very small thumbnails of the photos in their guide and the subject is still pretty recognizable at that size on that particular photo. Also, because it shows the gold, art deco "radio tower/water tower" of the Civic Center (designed by Frank Lloyd Wright).
There are 2 other photos (by other photogs) of the Civic Center shown on that same Schmap page (there might be more, I'm not sure, on another page of the guide -- but, anyway, I couldn't wait to share this bit of happy news with all my Gather friends! :o)
Oh! And, I'm not sure where the photo is on Gather (what the URL is) but, I did post it here when I took it about 6 or 8 months ago... I do have an album of the same photo along with others that I took of the Center that I treated with the "Edgeworks" graphics filter that's on my "albums" page (I only have 3 or 4 photo albums on here so it's not hard to find) if anybody wants to see them. Just go to my "Photos" and "Albums" page.
So, anyway, that was cool... :o)
luv,
jean

CONGRATS Jean - well deserved, that is a cool photo! I remember that photo and your recent colorful edits too.
I'd be doing the happy dance too.
How cool. Now you can say you've been published and put that in your portfolio. :)
Hey, that's really neat...just think thousands of people are seeing your photo.
Woowhoo! That's really cool even if you're not being paid for it!
I think that is very cool, and the value of being "published" is sometimes worth more than money. Good for you!
Thank you, all my supportive friends, Rose, Marilyn, ee, Melanie & Sue! Yah, you know my "resume", such as it is, for writing and photography and graphics design work IS getting pretty full! :o) Who'da thunk it? ;o)
Jean, this is VERY COOL. A man told me a while back that one must be willing to give away some of their stuff in order to get people to come back when they are ready to spend some money. I hope this is the case for you.
VERY COOL, indeed. And well-deserved, my friend.
Really cool, Jean.
This is one of those times that giving work away may very well pay off.
