As a teacher and as a taxpayer, I find this completely disgusting:
Â
700 NYC teachers paid to do nothing
Don't get me wrong, I am grateful for my union and the benefits it brings, but isn't there some way to expediate this and also to keep them doing something productive? For goodness sake, they can grade papers or make copies, write lesson plans, maybe a little envelope stuffing...something!!!
It is stuff like this that makes unions look bad and creates the issues with non-union positions...Oh Lord..what next?

Interesting story...
THat's crazy!!!
odd
Having known various people who've spent time in the rubber room, I realize it's not fair on both ends. You wouldn't want a person to be railroaded, so due process takes time.
I agree, some work could be done. But then if someone is upset (or unbalanced) that person could sabotage the work...
It's kind of the opposite of what Gather's turned into...don't get paid anything for doing a lot. Maybe we cab ship Gather's management down there and bring their people here. At least we'd be rewarded accordingly with everything balancing out.
It is sad that in most cases a few bad apples spoil the bunch.
Very sad that this is the case....
I work for a college and I know teachers have a very good contract and it is very difficult to even discipline them not to mention fire them. And yes this is a waste of money for sure....
