Think Feral Cats Are A Problem? Think Again! One California woman, Lynea Lattanzio, has created a paradise for Cats AND Dogs! She has over 700 HAPPY cats (AND a lot of dogs) living full lives WITHOUT cages OR bad smells, and says it's no trouble whatsoever. If she can do it, it can be done all over the country! Take a peek at this video.
The Cat House on the Kings is California's largest no-cage, no-kill, lifetime cat sanctuary and adoption center. Our mission is to place rescued cats and kittens into loving, permanent homes; to provide a safe, happy and healthy home for unwanted cats and kittens in a unique, no-cage facility; to prevent pet overpopulation through spaying and neutering; and to educate the public about responsible pet ownership.
Since its founding 17 years ago, The Cat House on the Kings has saved over 18,000 cats and 5,000 dogs (not counting the 40,000 animals we have spayed and neutered!) and currently cares for more than 700 cats and kittens!

Wow. It does take dedication and money however for that to be so prosperous.
Wow is right! This is amazing! What a great lady!
I really appreciated hearing that she went to work for a veterinarian so that she could learn how to take care of them. It wasn't mentioned on the video, but I assume that each of them is spayed or neutered.
Yes--they're ALL spayed or neutered, plus THOUSANDS that DON'T live there.
God bless that women over and over again.
Amen to that!
It's an amazing story. I featured them on my blog: Cat Saturday at blog.laylamorganwilde.com months ago.
Oh yes, I heard about it before and yes, it was on LAYLA's BLOG~~~~~
I love this story. When I worked for a vet, there was a local couple who provided a similar sanctuary for pets -- they took every opportunity to learn as much as they could about how to care for the cats and dogs, and they were happy, healthy animals. I wish there were more people like this.
that is wonderful and blessing are sent her way......
The best part of all this is that all those animals are spayed/neutered. We need LOTS more of that!
It's good that someone is doing something for the other inhabitants of the planet. . .
My hubby and I have pretty much done this with the feral cats we have out here around our Ranch. Not nearly so many as this lady, but we tamed each of them down just enough to catch them, take take them to the vet to get, "the once over", and spayed, shots, trated for ear mites and wormed, and then jave released them to live out their lives, here on the ranch. Happy cats!
It's such a wonderful approach, let's hope more people with the time and acreage catch on to the idea! I think we owe it to the animals we've bred for centuries!
I'll check the website.
This is great!
Great post... plus they make great mousers!
I seriously doubt if there is much of a rodent population on those six acres, no!
Great lady!
what a wonderful thing to do. keep up the good work
Oh, thank you thank you thank you for this info / inspiration! MEOW!
What a wonderful, caring person. I rescued one cat from a no kill shelter. It's all I can do to afford Apricot.
God bless her.
Animals are never the real problem. It's people that make things into problems. Kudos to this lady and this concept.
I am happy to hear about such a wonderful place for animals
This is wonderful
Awesome! Wish I could do it.
Lynea DOES look as if she's TRULY enjoying her life, doesn't she?
Thanks for sharing that with us, I live in California and never have heard of the place. What a unique shelter and what a lovely and unique woman.
Hey, don't feel bad--I've lived in California for over 40 years, and it's taken me 17 years to hear of it, and Fresno area's not all that far from San Francisco!
I have seen this before, isn't it just marvellous?!
Certainly gave ME a good feeling!
Such a wonderful and caring lady Gerald !! There should be more people like her on this earth to care for unwanted pets. *smiles*
Hugs, Barbie
I remember when I was a little girl our pet cat had just given birth to 6 or more little kittens. One day my Dad put those kittens in a grain sack and took them down to the brook and tossed the bag under the bridge where the water was deeper. I heard those baby kittens crying for their Momma. I went down under that bridge and got that bag it hadn't got completely wet yet. I took that bag and ran up to the farm on the hill. Then I put those kittens in the hay mow. I knew their Momma would find them and take care for them. Our cat never came back home after that Gerald.
Barbie, I hope you don't mind me saying this, but your dad leaves something to be desired in the compassion department.
Can't say I blame the mama, Barbie! Thankfully, the compassionate young Barbie was there to come to the rescue!
