I planned to wait another day to post an update on the bluebird babies. However, I did a quick "look see" yesterday, and look what I found! One day does make a difference at this stage. Their little blue feathers are so pretty. I had to share. But, not too many more days before they will be flying away.
From my research, I have learned that the male will continue taking care of the babies for about a month after they fly away, what a relief. This male should get a Klondike bar or a case of mealworms (their favorite food). ha! The male has been right there for these babies. The female is only a few feet away busily making another nest. Hopefully, if the sparrows do not interfere, more babies soon.. we will see.

I did check for breathing, they are fine!!!

Blue feathers, so neat!

Sleepy heads, they are growing every day.

The female is busy making a new nest, I hope the sparrows stay out this time.

They are getting big.
I know, I could not believe the difference in one day! I am really careful now when I open the door, so they won't fly away to soon.
Carol ,this is so cool ! Thank you for the updates on the bluebirds.
Thank you Phil for sharing my joy, it is such an experience.
Wow, they are beautiful!!! I had no idea the colors would show up so soon after hatching. Gorgeous! Great post Carol :-) So happy to see them doing well!
I know Pamela, I am so excited!!!!! They are always sleeping, but I stand there a minute and watch them breathe, can't touch them but they are all fine.
That is so cool that you can see the pretty blue feathers already.
I love the blue feathers, so pretty! They are almost ready to leave. :(
So pretty. That is interesting the female is making another nest while those chicks are still so new/young. I wonder how many times a year they lay eggs... two, three, twenty, LOL? I guess I don't know much about birds.... ;-)
Thanks for the update!
Thanks John. I am learning as I go. In the southern climates, they sometimes have four or five nests. I found it very interesting that the male stays behind and feeds the babie, while the female starts the new nest.
"Team effort" to have as many babies in the shortest period of time I suppose... Pretty cool. Thanks.
Makes sense. Mother nature is truly amazing.
I had no idea about this! It's neat learning things like this.
It is amazing the changes that take place each day.
Yes it is Linda.
Aww Carol, they are so sweet. I have to tell you, I didn't notice this but I noticed a bunch of straw on my front porch on two sides and here I have two nests. they are up high so I cannot see what kind of birds they are or even if they are still there. Wonder if I took a chiar out and got up to take a peep, it would be ok to do, I would be afriad the mother bird would like attack me. LOL
You have to be real careful Angie. The songbirds are more tolerant of humans, but they still have been known to attack. But some of the others are not so tolerant. Having said that, I would have to go and take a quick peek. ;) Just be careful and keep an eye out.
Carol they are so cute, I have to tell you the othere day I saw all this straw on my front porch on two sides and I looked up and right at the top of each brick pillar is a next, there are two of them and I don't know what kind of birds or if the birds have flown the coop already or what. They are up too high for me to see, I was wondering if I take a chair out to stand on and look if the mama bird would like attack me or anything.
Oops, first this didn't post and now I have it two times. Jeez.
No problem, the system is really slow right now.
They actually have color now. How nice.
Yes, they really look like BLUEbirds now.
Thanks for continuing to update this with your observations and great photos.
John, I thank you for your visits. I know my time is limited, they will be flying away soon, thanks for allowing me to share my joy.
AWWWWWWWW! Wow, this is such an informative, interesting, and tooo cute, posting of the wonderful stages of the bluebirds, I too, would have had to check to see if they were breathing! LOL, I can just see the look on your face, going, ok, you guys are just sleeping way too much!!!!!! I am so glad they have found such a safe and loving person as you to watch over them
wow, those birds are busy! more? LOL< wink
I know Barb. I have been like their mother. I keep my eyes glued to the binoculars. I was so relieved to know the male will look after them for awhile when they fly away. And they are busy, it is amazing to watch.
An update on the babies is posted.
Oh my, they have really changed a lot in one day, especially the feather detail.
I know, I have an update posted.
The blue is really beginning to get vivid, isn't it? Their coloring always makes me stop what I'm doing when one is nearby. I can not help but be mesmerized by their beauty.
Me too, I have an update.
Oh they are getting so big. I just love seeing the potos every time youshare them.
Thank you, check out my latest when you have time... no photos.
Wow, they are developing so fast, that blue is just amazing!!
" the male will continue taking care of the babies for about a month after they fly away" And I just keep learning something new, that is awesome, never heard of such a thing with birds. They could be the poster child for Best Parents of any species easy, they surely do got it down!!
I don't think you'll have to worry about the sparrows at all anymore either, they seem to have a real good handle on the territory and no doubt the word is out that 'trespassing will not be tolerated!' =~D
They are beautiful Ruth. And it is so much to learn.
But you have to read the latest post from today.

Just found that. Approaching with trepidation now, lol
very nice Carol...
that's the kind of house that WalMart sells. I wish I could put one up, but don't have the space, or a good place to mount one
Thanks Randall. It has not been a good one, not sparrow proof. Grrrrrrr.
