well, my poor old car finally died completely. I'm going to have to find something to replace it. Ive been looking on the internet but Im not sure what models of cars are worth buying used. My neighbor told me not to buy any used Kias or Pontiacs. Also with the trouble with the automakers Im worried that whatever I buy I might not be able to get parts for later.
I need something that gets decent gas mileage and isnt too spendy. Im thinking either a two door hatchback or like that, or one of those little trucks? Anybody got a suggestion. Either for a good one or what to avoid? I dont want to get ripped off.

Anything made by the Germans or Japanese.....
Go to the library and get the Consumer Reports Buyers Guide, most recent issue. That's what I did -- I was lucky enough to get one of the better years for the Geo Storm. Also it helps to take someone along to the lot when you do get it narrowed down. PBS's 'MotorWeek' show is also useful. Did you catch the amazing story on CBS Evening News tonight about the guy who's had a Mustang (I think a Mach 1) for something like 500,000 miles? He kept records of every place he went and every fill-up. Russ Mitchell did the story. They probably have it online now. I'd probably buy a Subaru Impreza if I was in the market. Any Honda would be a strong second choice -- our friend Craig was once on a several-months waiting list to get his Civic CVCC. Good luck and keep us posted!
Hondas are good
Toyotas are good
I still havent found a used car. Right now Im getting lifts from friends and my mom lets me borrow her car a couple days a week but she needs it the rest of the time so I have to cram everything like shopping and stuff into one day. It sucks.
For an American car, I would give Saturn Ion from 2005 to the present a thumbs up.
