It's Father's day today
A day we salute and remember dads
There shouldn't be just one day for this
Because father's are not one day fads
Not all boys dream, like little girls do
Of having children when they are grown
But when the event does happen to them
Their chests expand, and men come into their own
I speak from my own experience
Of watching my husband grow into those shoes
When our children came along he was so proud
No kids could ever have had a better dad to choose
They became his reason to do the best he could
To provide for his family, keep us housed and fed
It wasn't an easy thing to do, sharing himself with them too
Never saying , later son, I'm busy, or tired, going to bed
Now all our children are grown and have children of their own
Our sons are fathers in their own right and lovingly remember their dad
Our grandchildren are very lucky because they experienced
The love and respect from their fathers, they were so fortunate to have had
So look at your dad and see, what makes a man truly a man
It's the sacrifice and the unconditional love that continues
You can't do wrong in his eyes, you're his pride and joy
The lessons he taught you throughout your life, are always there to use
Happy Father's Day to All Fathers

I'm not a father, but I have been called a 'mother' before!
Hmmmm, me too! LOL, Hi Rob!
Thanks Elsie, thanks for sharing your poem..
Beautiful poem! I miss my daddy so much.....he's been in Heaven about 32 years now.....it doesn't seem that long, though......our son and I will take my hubby out to eat (again!) tomorrow at Bandana's....they have the most incredible smoked foods......I could live at that restaurant! I think hubby's step-daughter and her family will meet us there at 1 p.m., so it will be a nice day.....I got him yet another hat for his collection!!!!!
very nice poem, thanks
Such a nice poem Elsie.

Nice poem Elsie.
Beautiful Poem Elsie. I miss my Daddy so much. he was my very best friend. He has been gone from me since 91. Momma in 95. I look across the yard at their house and want to walk over and sit on the porch with Daddy as I did in the past.
Great poem! Thanks for it.
Happy Father's Day All. :]
This is such a fine tribute, Elsie. Thank you for sharing this powerful poem with us.
Happy Fathers' Day to all you dads. We love you.
And for those of us whose dads are gone, I say, "We miss you, Daddy, so very much!"
I miss my daddy and he is gone since I was 19, many years ago, but still think of him with love on this special day, and of course my husband, the father of my children, always special to me, and my sons are now fathers, and their sons father's too. Wonderful how the world goes on and on ...
The poem was a wonderful ode to fathers, and your comment about how the world just goes on and on is Sooo true, Elsie. :)
Yes. The beauty of life is that we have successive generations to carry on after we are gone. Our job, I think, is to pass on all those feelings and values which were given to us as gifts from those who loved us...
This flowing verse is painted with a gentle imagery. I loved the fourth stanza.
Wonderful tribute, Elsie.
My sister and I still hold my dad on a pedestal, but so do those in the community who ever knew him and even some who didn't. Although I saw his father only infrequently, he was also a role model as was my maternal grandfather who I helped care for after his stroke. I'm proud of both my sons in their father roles.
A Very very very beautiful poem...So true for my dad and hubby...And i know it will be true for my son, whenever that time comes. Thankfully, not just yet...

Very special sentiments for a very special day. It takes a lot to be a father, and certainly not always easy. So Happy Father's Day to all.
This poem was so lovely thank you for sharing and bringing happy tears to my eyes.
This poem was very beautiful and it was wonderful of you to share it with us. My father was not a good father nor did I have good father figures in my life, but my girlfriends had good fathers and I saw what they should be.
My Dad died in 1986, it is good to remember him. He was a very hard working man.
Lovely poem, Elsie! My Dad died in 2000... I miss him terribly! He was the kindest man you could ever meet and a wonderful father.
Very lovely.
I too miss my Dad a great deal, Mom too.....they have been gone since 1980 and 1976 respectively.
You always write from the heart and it shows!
Thanks again, S
