Have you ever wondered what lives in the little holes in old trees? Are you scared to look inside for fear of what you'll find? Are they full of Faries, or maybe some little animals or even a larger one?
I was thinking these thoughts as I walked around this morning and took a few pictures of the holes:

These holes make your mind think funny things, like is this tall hole for a leprechaun, maybe the funny oval one is full of baby skunks, and the old one may be a portal to the unseen land of the little faries.
I will tell you the truth, you couldn't pay me to look into these holes! But I still was drawn to them and I let my mind wander, thinking about what secrets were hidden in these amazing looking holes.

What do you think lives in these holes?

I often wonder about that.
Great shots Judy
Thanks Elaine.
awesome photos! I'd never heard this before but often wondered what caused them.
Thanks Paula.
Snakes?? Great essay. Very interesting Judy.
That would be my luck if I looked into one. :)
Thanks Janet.
great essay mom!!
Thanks Penny.
Very imaginative and creative! Enjoyed this.
Thanks Mary.
As always your photos are great! Your writing makes this even better! This opens up your imagination. SO fun to consider. In the holes there could be trolls, fairies, skunks, snakes, snails and all kinds of variations. This is fun to think of!
Thanks Kevin, I was having such thoughts as I looked at these holes. :)
so neat and cute
What a great essay and wonderful photos! Wouldn't catch me looking inside them either! LOL
I have look in the holes, but I have never stuck my hands in them. The trees that we had in the yard with holes in them. I seen bugs, several different kinds, and once in a while you can see a squirrel going in with a nut to hide. I have never seen a snake or anything else in them, and I wouldn't want to find out if there was one. Neat essay.
With my luck there would be a snake! I think the holes are cool and they often make great photography subjects.
I like the thought that fairies live in there, but as my luck would have it...it would be monsters!
My fear also, :)
What a JOYFUL Article Judy that makes you think. L O L.
If there were no skunks or snakes in there, I wouldn't mind shrinking down to a small size for long enough to go in and explore the area myself. Out in California, I've had chances to do this when the trees--and their holes--are human-sized. I've even shopped at a gift shoppe in such a hole along with riding in a car going through one when I was eight.
look at the bottom left picture, looks like little faces looking out
Susan what a great eye you have, I didn't even notice that, but your right! :)
Judy I am afraid to look sometimes as you never know what you might find. But I do love long walks in the woods...
I know those holes can contain anything from bees to little critters like chipmunks to larger critters like maybe skunks? I don't want to encounter any of them, but those holes are interesting!
