T-Dawg and I went for a walk on the beach the other day. It was low tide, with a strip of gravel at the high-water mark, and thus a fruitful day for collecting glass and pebbles. We could have spent all day sweeping back gravel with our feet and scanning for bright bits of color and brightness, but we were on a walk, and only stopped every so often...

Here's T-Dawg holding out his handful of glass...He looks a little fried from his last week of school.

Mother and son
strolling on a stony beach
gather bright treasure

The gold pebbles and stones, brick-rocks and a shell caught my eye as well, this time.

Come on over and we'll go for a walk on the beach. You never know what you'll find...

Seems like you had a lovely day!
Thanks, JM. Yes, it was!
I love beach combing for rocks and colored glass. You are now featured. Thanks for a great essay.
wonderful haiku those are neat looking little treasures
Thank you, Vivian.
bijoux from the sea
ocean generosity
hand picked gifts on sand
Love it, Janny!
wonderful tresure, a very simple and beautiful haiku
Thank you so much, Ashok.
Washington beaches are indeed a treasure trove. Good pictures, prose, and poetry.
Yes, they are. Thanks much, Janny!
mother and son brought bright memories...beautiful haiku and lovely photos,Alison
Yes, we did, Bhawana! Thank you for your kind comments.
Loved your photos, Alison. T-Dawg is such a cutie ... makes me miss my Tommy. Haven't seen him since Christmas. I HATE it that he lives so far away. Of course I'm thrilled that he has a good job and is living his dream ...
Thanks, Marianne! Yes, it is hard to be separated by so many miles.
I'll be there in July, just kidding. Thank you for posting to our group. Beautiful photos and Haiku.
Come on over, Jennifer! Thanks for commenting.
That would be a cool picture in a scrapbook. Do you scrapbook. What a wonderful memory! I miss those days with my children, now they are grown.
Thanks, Alberta. No, I haven't done much with scrapbooking, but you are giving me some inspiration here!
Those are so pretty. We've been laying a rock wall today. KY rock is certainly different though.
Thanks, Jerri. I look forward to seeing that rock wall!
Beautiful treasures. Those rocks and stones are lovely. I have never been to a beach that had these, just shells mostly and some rocks like your second set. We should trade, shells for some pretty stones like that first photo;) The colors are beautiful in that first set.
Thank you, Nana! Yes, we should trade... :-)
Beautiful photo essay!
Thanks so much, Elaine!
How wonderful - there isn't much better than a walk on the beach collecting treasures...
Thank you, Heidi--and I agree!
I love how the action of ocean waves turns fragments of glass into "gems". Beachcombing in Washington and Oregon is very special. My Mom always looked for rubies at "Ruby" Beach.
Thank you, Natalie. Now I'll have to look up "Ruby Beach." Another great place for special stones is Harrison Beach, further west on the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
Hi, Alison!
I always love your photo essays. :)
Beach glass is so cool and I love your golden stones- I can almost feel the smoothness. Sounds like you had a great walk!
Thank you, Nancy! I have way too many stones around here, but John has given me a good idea of what to do with them...
I love collecting beach glass too - we call them mermaids tears. Only we collect them on the beaches of Lake Ontario.
Mermaid's tears....I like that! Thanks for commenting, Diva.
I am also a collector of beach glass. My husband's aquarium is almost full of it.
It sounds like quite a collection, NLD! People pay good money for beach glass, but how could you give away your treasure?
Always a fun activity, Alison. Rock polishing fits nicely too if one has the time, interest, place to work and a rock tumbler with abrasives.
Thanks for commenting and for mention of the rock tumbler, John. What a terrific idea!
That would be a lot of fun.
Yes, it is, Tanya! We'll go for a walk if you're ever in the area....
If I ever......no, no; gotta use the correct vibational words to manifest this....When I win enough in the lottery I plan to fulfill my dream of traveling. You'll definitely be on my list!!
Great! Come and hang out with us, Tanya!
Ooooh, you got some great pieces! Cindy (see photo to left, please) and I haven't been to the beach together in a while. It's time we took a stroll and did some treasure hunting ourselves!
Thanks, Aunt Boni! Hope you have a nice stroll.
That is one fried kid:) Loved your treasures. It's always fun to find something cool at the beach.
Rocks are so cool I love the way they change color in the water. We do have some beach glass around here, but not much. Mostly shells, not sure about any rock beaches.
Thanks for commenting, Rose!
You found some ownderful treasures! I love beach combing.
Ah, wonderful, that is.
Thanks so much, Sherrie!
I would be there in a heart beat if I lived close...the glass is beautiful with the rounded edges and opaque colors. And your finds were great too...interesting collection of colors and shapes..textures. Enjoyed every picture and your haiku as well...I haven't written one in ages.
Thanks and come on over, Katherine...you're welcome....I may be in OKC in November. :-)
I only came up with the haiku just before posting. I attended a local haiku group last week and was very inspired. One of their themes was "rhododendrons," hence the rhody photos and haiku. Look at your own photos and write down relevant words and see if anything comes to you.
You will let me know if you do make it to OKC, won't you?
Where do you find a local haiku group? That would be very inspirational and really get the ole poetry juices flowing. I'll do that Alison, search through some picture themes and see if I can churn some words
I went to read at a local open mike at a cafe, and after I read some haiku, I was invited to the haiku group. It meets once a month on a Friday for three hours in the afternoon. Hmm, maybe I should write an article about the group process...
Oh yes...please do...
Wouldn't it be fun to have a day together in November? I go to OKC with three friends about once a year for a meditation retreat, and once we get together we are busy the whole time, but if I came a day early...??
our beaches are a bit south and north of us, and often too crowded with people, but one day i will live near the beach and stroll there often.
I still have rocks i collected from when i was a child.

Hearty. Hearty and warm...:)
Fantastic journey
I love meandering beach walks where a piece of glass is like a pot of gold.
Master beachcombers Alison and the Dawgs.
A great day at the beach with wonderful treasures...especially the Mother and Son one.
Thank you, Chris....you are right!
wow love the stones.....i know you guys have a lot of fun.....
Thank you, Maria. Yes, we do have a lot of fun!
I spend time at the Outer Banks and I think I can say that I've never seen a brick rock there! Great pictures!
Thanks for commenting, KD. We have a lot of brick buildings in town, and strong currents to move small rocks.
Oh ok. I love those brick rocks!
Me too, KD. I am now collecting them along with the glass and stones.
i love sea glass. I have a watercolor of a seaglass and shells from my trip to costa rica...must try to find it would love to go out and find sea glass every day.
Thanks for commenting, dd. Would love to see your watercolor!
Oh, lovely. We're off to the beach on Saturday!
Thanks, Sheila. Have a great time beachcombing!
We had a wonderful time, and not just beachcombing. It was really great.
Beachcombing is often just the excuse for time together with loved ones! Glad you had a wonderful time.
I love the beautiful beach glass. I have never found any on our beaches.
Thanks for commenting, Sandra. Hope you find some beach glass sometime, somewhere!
Love the haiku and the photos, Alison!
Treasure hunting is fun!
Thanks for all your comments, Curt!
Pretty treasures

I can't believe I missed this. Lovely haiku. Beautiful photos. So wonderful that you had the time together to go treasure hunting on the beach. What a great memory for both of you!
Amazing pictures Alison and those pebbles look like real gems.
Thank you, Haim.
Wonderful images! What a delightful haiku, Alison!!
Thanks so much, Lawrence!
Wow, that beach glass is cool.
Thanks for commenting, Toni. You never know what you'll find on the beach!
What a treasure you unearthed--spending the day with "your boy-o" Dawg.
What beautiful glass "stones" you unearthed--a memory miner are you!
I so totally enjoyed this read, and the comments that followed.
But, I have to say, I already KNOW that the joy of your day was the pix of the babe...almost, all-the-way, semi-maybe grown up.
Blessings on your loving heart, Shelia.
Wilka
Thank you, Kathy/Wilka. Lovely comments!
I love this photo essay, Alison. It makes me nostalgic for the seashore. There's just nothing like combing a beach for treasures.
