When you're thinking about what to write on your next article, you can enter your topic idea as a keyword in the keyword suggestion tool by Wordtracker. Click "hit me" and it will give you some recent phrases people have searched related to the topic. I find this really helpful to give me ideas of what phrases to use, and what people want to know about the topic. Try some different variations on ways to say the same thing for more ideas.
You can use Adwords at Google.com similarly. This gives a more thorough result but takes more steps to use so I tend to use with WordTracker's to begin, then check adwords later when I'm fine-tuning after my text is written.
If you'd like to compare key phrases to see which is more popularly searched in Google, you can use VS. GoogleBattle.
This Keyword Density Checker will give you feedback in the form of a word cloud showing which words occur most commonly on your page. According to this article on webconfs.com, while your keywords and key phrases are important, too much density is interpreted as keyword stuffing and can count against you. Their recommendation is less than 10%.
For those of us who write for more than one site, we should be aware that while Gather is fine with us reposting our content, search engines check for duplicate and very similar content. Duplicate content is dropped from their search results, so doing this can hurt our own traffic. It seems even lightly rewritten articles are a risk. Webconfs.com offers a Similar Page Checker to compare two articles to see if they're likely to pass the duplicate check.

Useful tools here Lune but nothing I have ever tried brought decent quantities of traffic to Gather. The's why I'm seldom seen now.
I'm sorry to hear that, Ian. I miss reading your articles.
Interesting. The keyword density tracker link seems to be broken. I'm playing with it now :)
Hmmm, you're right, it appears that whole site is down right now. Guess I'll give them some time to come back up and replace the link if they don't.
I'll try to incorporate some of these techniques and see what happens. :)
Wishing you success!
I've pulled the density checker out for now, since the site's still down. There are a lot of others but I liked that one because it was visual and very novice friendly.
webconfs is back up, so I've returned word cloud density checker link.
Thanks :)
Lune, that's just the information I've been looking for. Connie mentioned your post in her "What's happening on gather today" daily post.
I'll give it a shot, thank you!
You're welcome. :)
Thanks for this information!
You're welcome, Priscilla.
I am glad that Connie pointed out your post. Why delete duplicate material from the search engines? Not good for writers seeking to repurpose their material!
It does make it harder.
hi i don't mean at all to sound stupid, could you please shoot me a pm and help me understand what exactly i need to do??? I am just not understanding what we need to do... Thanks so
I'm not sure where exactly you are lost, Anne. Have you read Tom's article Find Something You Love or Heidi's article Give Yourself A Little Credit ? They're a good point to start, and then, when you have an idea for what you want to write about, your keywords would involve your topic. You would begin to use the tools above at this point, to help decide which phrases would be most beneficial to use and what people want to know about the topic. These words and phrases would be used normally within your article and article title, to help your article show up in search engine results when people search for information on the topic. For example, in a review article, the keywords or phrases would involve the product and what it's supposed to do.
I am going to try some of these and see what happens thanks.
You're welcome, Renee.
Thanks for the information. I will have to start looking into this. Unfortunately not everyone is savy enough to understand the concept your speaking of.
You're welcome. I think if we can take some time to explain, remembering what it's like to be completely new to the idea, anyone who wants to can get it. Some who know a lot more about this than I tend to make it much more complicated than it needs to be, for a novice, I've noticed.
I'll have to come back and check this out when I have a bit more time to implement the suggestions. Thank you Lune.
P.S. Feel free to submit posts like this to my Affiliate Central group as well. These are great tips for any Internet marketer.
You're welcome. And thanks, I'll do that.
Valuable info, Lune! You are a wealth of information, girl! Thanks so much! I've already tried some of these out and it's really cool (and helpful!).
Like Sue...I'm onto it. This should be fun.
You're very welcome. :)
Ditto what Linda said!
This is valuable information, Lune.

Thank you for this.
You're welcome, all. I hope you all find them as useful and rewarding as I have.
Thanks for the help.

Excellent. I did check it out and used their info for my tags.
Excellent information!
