We are headed to the library. The kids have been participating in the Summer Reading Program. It varies by age. Gilly has to read (or have read to her) 5 stories. For Chris, 150 pages. For Raegan, 250 pages. For me, 5 stories (which is a LOT more pages than 250, but not a horrible feat).
Last year, they gave out food coupons each week- free meals at Subway & Arby's, and ice cream cones from DQ. I'm hoping we'll be able to get a free lunch out of the deal today.
I also have a book review for the kids to each write in when we get home, then they'll earn a prize from me, as well.
Do you participate in a summer reading program?

My kids participate in the Library summer Reading program every summer!
shoot, I never got the kids signed up for it...I wonder if it's too late?
We didn;t have to sign up- just picked up some bookmarks with slots to fill in what we read.
we dont presonally but I know a ton of kids that do, my son reads a different book everyday
That is an awesome program, our local library has a reading program that rewards the kids if they read so many books and for the little ones there is story time. My kids enjoy it very much.
I used to when my son was young. Now he has books that he has to read during the summer for his IB Literature class when school starts again. He has to do all sorts of reports and stuff......I'm kinda glad I can't help him. The teachers are asking a lot.
No summer reading programs, but my daughter does read over the summer. She may have the reading bug from me~
There is a summer reading program at my library, but I didn't sign up. I'm just not sure what it's about or what the "prize" is.
Yes my kids will. At our local library and the one that my grandmother works at. They have great prizes depending on how many books you read and lots of neat activites for the kids. Joslyne acutally just drew up a book report yesterday. She is excited about the program.
The kids each got a kids meal from Burger King. I got a coupon for 10% off 1 meal at a restaurant we never go to. I took the kids to BK for lunch, though, so we got a cheap meal anyway.
Oh yes,my son loves reading so we had to participate. It's fun you know.
Does telling Gather about what we've read, count? I just take whatever reading material strikes my fancy, and go to the cafe.
Elliott's too little for the local one here (it's for 4 and up, and he's just 3). We will most likely participate in it when he gets older, though. We read at least 5 books every day. ;)
My girls did the summer reading program through the library when they were in elementary school.
No--all of the children's programs and activities at our libraries are during the early hours of the weekdays, which means working parents can't actually take their children. It's a little disappointing actually.
