For decades, these UFO sightings have been explained away as meteors or other things. But what is interesting that before the Wright brothers launched an airplane, flying crafts were already visible in the skies. None of these crafts could really be explained away as weather balloons or meteorites, to witnesses of the 1800s the crafts were not from this earth.
The Wright Brothers may have been the first to put an machine into the sky, but people had been looking up at flying aircraft for decades before the brothers launched the first airplane.
Reports of UFOs were recorded in newspapers of the 19th century, among the most famous was written in the St. Louis Democrat, Oct. 19, 1865. That article appeared two weeks later in The Cincinnati Commercial, bringing more public awareness to UFOs. The account was of an old Montana fir trapper by the name of James Lumley who saw a UFO fly over him and crash into the forest, exploding like a rocket. The story picked up by the Missouri Democrat and other newspapers, which contributed to national attention or awareness of alien spacecraft.
Most fur trappers may tell tales of Indians, or bears, or mountain lions, but Lumley's account of a flying saucer that crashed into Cadotte Pass was among the most explicit and remains a mystery to this day. It is said that debris from the crash may still be up there, but few there has been no findings since. Nevertheless the story has remained one of the most mysterious of the 1800s.
Lumley was about 175 miles above the Upper Missouri in Great Falls Montana. He was on his way back to his camp site when he saw a "bright luminous body in the heavens." It went rapidly into an eastern direction and was plainly visible for about five seconds. As it flew Lumley saw it burst into an explosion in the sky and he later heard an explosion. It was shortly followed by a strong wind through the forest like a tornado, and the event left the air smelling like sulfur.
The next day, after walking two miles, he saw a path "several rods wide" made through the forest. He followed the path and discovered an object or rather a stone on the side of the mountain. What was unusual about this stone is that it had strange hieroglyphics and glass in it. Lumley felt the fragment he had found had come from an immense body and that the hieroglyphics must have been used for some purpose and made by human hands.
In April of 1897, people in five Midwestern states reported various accounts of an oblong shape in the sky. The accounts were reported from April 5th to April 19th.
The first recorded sighting was in Omaha Nebraska where more than 100 people witnessed the appearance of a flying object more than 12 feet long. It was shiny and made of steel. The object became so luminous that the brightness awoke people from their sleep.
People in Sioux City, Iowa saw another cigar-shaped craft just a few days later. It was also seen in Cedar Rapids and Burlington and described as a mysterious object with a glaring headlight of some kind and a shiny steel haul, gliding with a hissing sound.
Eyewitnesses in Chicago and Mount Carroll Illinois reported seeing an elongated object with flashing or rotating red and green lights on April 10. Hundreds of people throughout Illinois saw an aircraft hovering about 500 ft in the air and leaving at tremendous speeds. The craft had one bright light in addition to the red and green flashing lights. A Chicago newsstand dealer, Walter McCann was said to have taken two photos of the object at the time, but copies of these photos have not been made public in a very long time. They may still be in a file tucked away in Washington, or so the conspiracy theorists believe.
Later, that same night the people in Wausau Wisconsin looked up to see and egg-shaped craft hovering over city hall in Milwaukee. Thousands of awestruck spectators stood watching the craft as its lights moved back and forth.
On the next night, the same craft or one similar in description was seen in Minnesota and later in Indiana. By April 19, the craft appeared in Cochranville, Ohio and later traveled on to other areas, unknown. All accounts were similar throughout all five states with thousands of witnesses.
One of the most famous of all UFO sightings and crashes in the late 1800s was recorded in Aurora, Texas.
Although no evidence has been found to substantiate the story, the local newspaper account reads as follows: "About 6 o'clock this morning, the early risers of Aurora were astonished at the sudden appearance of the airship which has been sailing around the country. It was traveling due north and much nearer the earth than before. Evidently some of the machinery was out of order, for it was making a speed of only 10 to 12 miles per hour and gradually settled toward the earth."
The craft later crashed into a windmill, bursting into pieces. Some of the material recovered by townspeople revealed material sketched with a type of hieroglyphic.
United Press International, which is now defunct, then picked up the story and it spread throughout the borders of Texas. There were a number of eyewitnesses who all agreed on the basic facts: An unknown craft crashed into the town, and strange debris was found along with a "being not of this world was found in the wreckage."
The townspeople of Aurora discovered the remains of the pilot, or rather extraterrestrial along with the strange debris and gave the creature a "proper burial," respect was due to him as well since he resembled a small man, or humanoid to the town folk. The alien body has long disappeared along with the gravestone after military personnel came to Aurora to "investigate" the incident. The story was so famous it was later made into a movie: The Aurora Encounter" in 1986 starring Jack Elam. The incident is still being studied today.
The Denison Daily News of Denison Texas reported another famous sighting in 1878, when a farmer, John Martin saw a spacecraft. He was later credited for being one of the first to use the term "flying saucer." Martin described the flying saucer as a dark object he saw in the sky. The object moved close to him the whole time he watched.

Hmm...makes you think a little huh!
Stories such as that, long before we ourselves flew anything in the skies, has to make you think. I myself believe there is something out there in the universe, with technology greater than our own. Even if you read certain parts of the bible, there are references, that describe something that can be concieved as flying objects.
So those flying objects remain unidentified. We don't know what they were.
larry m, why dont you try your skills at investigative reporting and see what you come up with? i would be curious. i think if there is truth behind these stories there would be more evidence than just a folk tale, say a piece of evidence or even go to the site where it happened, some trace must still be there!
I'll believe off planet civilizations exist when one makes radio contact, because that's about as far as any REAL contact with an alien civilization will ever go. The first Frequency Modulated radio signal of sufficient strength to escape our planets electro-magnetic field was broadcast in 1936. That means those signals have traveled 73 light years. That's a radius of 428 trillion, 195 billion, 808 million miles or a diameter of over 850 trillion miles. However, compared to the size of our galaxy (100 thousand light years across) or 600 quadrillion miles, if depicted in a graphic the area covered by our radio signals couldn't be seen with the naked eye.
And no one from any planets that MAY exist around the few hundred stars within that radius has ever answered. Albeit only those within half that distance could have answered in time for us to receive it by now. In other words if our radio signals were recieved by a planet 36 1/2 light years away and immediately answered, we'd just now be recieving it. And that assumes a civilization advanced enough to recieve radio waves and understand what they were hearing.
But when you compare that possibilty with the possibility that a civilization was advanced enough to travel to this planet just to observe and NOT make contact. Well the odds become so astronomic you begin to realize you've entered the realm of pure fantasy.
I'm not going to pretend that I'm all knowing or that I know for sure what anyone reports seeing in the sky. But the odds a civilization from another world has overcome the insurmountable obstacles to the kind of space voyage neccessary to achieve such a thing is simply beyond anything we earthlings have encountered. Sure I know egg heads have contemplated warp drive, or worm hole conduits or other theories that would allow faster than light travel, but these ideas are pure fanatsy and only exist in the mathematical models they experiment with.
The bottom line is that if there are other intelligent life forms out there (and I believe there most likely are,) the chances of us finding each other are next to zero. And if we did, communication with them by radio would take generations to even begin to understand one another much less plan trips to each other's worlds.
If aliens were visiting our planet, they must have technology so advanced, it makes one question why they would be interested in such a primitive species as ours. Kind of like an astro-physicist studying mold.
Earthlike planets are so rare in the universe that they are like oases in the desert. Just as every oasis is valued by the desert nomads, so, I am sure, are all earthlike planets valued by any spacefaring races, if only for the fact that they are the locations of the resources for sustaining life.
"If aliens were visiting our planet, they must have technology so advanced, it makes one question why they would be interested in such a primitive species as ours."
to Eat.
I believe sending signals out to an unknown creature and thinking that they will come baring gifts and good cheer is absurd and ignorant. Would a person leave there door open all night and day hoping someone or thing will come in for a cordial meeting! I don't think so.
Quantum physics states that just observing can create Earth changes. The universe works in harmony, ETs understand our feeling of separateness. Ancient heiroglyphics depict not only various beings but also modern day helicopters and vehicles. When the shift takes place in 2012 our consciousness will expand and we will remember.
We are not alone. The mysteries surrounding the many wonders of the Pyramids, the Nazca lines, Stonehenge only deepen our curosoity of who we are and where we came from.
It always makes you think. With my own personal experiance I believe whole heartedly.
I would love to get into a debate with Barber about transdemensial travel and worm wholes etc.. But I would rather not.. LOL...
If we use the current state of science to measure these claims, the conclusions are inevitable: interstellar distances preclude visitations. End of story. However, the premisses may well be faulty, as the best of our physicists admit, and lead to flawed conclusions. There are still a lot of photographs, radar pings, and eye-witness accounts to be explained. If we assume, as we do in the case of legal proceedings, that this kind of evidence is meaningful, then there has to be something "out there," strange as it may seem. The consistency of the stories from unrelated sources alone paints a picture of an alien technology with a unified, albeit unknown, engineering basis. And if "they" are here, then chances are pretty good that they know everything there is to know about us, while we know next to nothing about them, and that their agendas are as unfathomable to us as ours are to Amazonian tribesmen. The governmental agencies that presumably know more than we do aren't talking. All of this makes speculation about alien behavior and motivations an idle pastime at best, and a stupid distraction at worst. But one thing about it interests me. It means that while we're circling the drain with our petty ideological and territorial squabbles and looming ecological catastrophes, there's a wild card in the mix. And it's a big one. Like the night sky in the desert, it's worth contemplating -- "What if?"
We need to think outside the box or in this case outside the technology. Because we understand things as we do does not make them the only forms available. I believe we will travel but not in the conventional way but use tunnels of space time to move in great distance verses the old fashion engine of any type.
They've been documented going back to Ezekiel and the Rig Veda and Bhagavad Gita. In 1991, the Russians declassified over 90% of the material they had been studying for decades, including film and materials.
Wow! That's absolutely amazing.
"Flying devices are commonplace in many religions, and Hinduism is no exception. According to ancient Sanskrit texts found a few years ago by Westerners in a South Indian temple, Vimanas were open topped flying devices, restricted to the Earth's atmosphere."

ufo's- Unidentified flying objects. OR,
UFO'S- UNidentified "Falling" Objects. Seen many funny lights falling from the sky Around 4 Am. Why?
I saw one flying object here In Ontario At 1 in the afternoon, the object moved diaganolly over the road at an approaching direction. As it moved forward it also rotated as well. The size was small and shaped like a beach ball and appeared paper like. can anyone relate to such a sighting.
Sightings like this are much more common than press reports would suggest. For example, objects such as these have frequently been sighted flying over fields just prior to the appearance of crop circles. They are almost certainly unmanned vehicles that carry out various functions, from inducing crop formations to spying, making land surveys -- whatever may interest the aliens.
yes it was a paper beach ball.
To start with, they are not EBE's They are the future of mankind. 1 mill years from the present. The sun has cooled and underground living has caused this evolution in us. They are hear to rekindle humanity, which is dying; but not by abducting the primitive man, but the genes that are individuality, emotions, and procreative drive. Look at their hominid appearance. EBE's would be vastly different. The variations of the other types reported are evolved terrestrial animal species. (evolution is not gone.)
To Da, Not long after this sighting I did notice strange laying down of corn in a field only a mile from my sighting.
To John S, I've never read your books and am being polite, I belong to The Lord Jesus Christ. I believe this sighting can be attributed to the prince of the power of the air and nothing else. What is your opinion.
"The Wright Brothers may have been the first to put an machine into the sky"
This is totally wrong. Planes had been flying since years in Europe before the Wright made theirs. Besides, the Wright brothers infringed several french patents building their plane. They lost the various trials they had in Europe and... just never paid anything : no dollars nor credits. This way to rewrite the History with an americanocentric point of view, obliterating foreign merits in the process, is a bit annoying.
My two cents.
