Rush Limbaugh put yet another foot in it today. Continuing his attacks on Sonya Sotomayor, he argued that she is clearly unsuitable for the Supreme Court by reason of having joined a woman's association. He concluded his rant by offering to supply vacuums to her and her associates so that they will be able to clean up at the end of future meetings. Hmm, lovely snide image of the Puerto Rican immigrant cleaning lady, Rush. Great how you can hit every sour note at the same time, racist and sexist and anti latina all in the same comment.
George W. Bush broke his silence on Obama, and chanelled a bit of Dick Cheney. At least we kept America safe, yadda yadda, what happened to free enterprise. I liked the silence better.
Senator John Ensign's sex scandal got a bit odder today. Apparently the mistress and the mistress's husband (yup, she married too) BOTH worked for Ensign, and their 19 year old son was getting paid by the Republican party. And the mistress was apparently hinting about blackmail. huh.
PETA is apparently upset at the film footage of President Obama whapping a fly and killing it dead. Hey, this is a fly we are talking about, PETA. Sheeeeeeeeeeesh.
In Iran, the "Mexican standoff" (sorry) continues between Ahmedinejad and Ayatollah Khamenei on the one side, and Mousavi and his millions of followers on the other side. The marching continues with crowds constantly growing. Today's march totalled around a million, which is maybe seven percent of everyone in greater Teheran. The instructions shared by the Mousavi supporters are very clear: DO NOT damage property. DO NOT practice violence of any kind. Borrowing a page from Gandhi and M.L. King Jr., brilliant!! The burden is placed squarely on the shoulders of the Mullahs and their lackeys to clamp down without homicidal violence- and so far relatively few Mousavi supporters have been killed. And the Mullahs just do not seem to be sure what the hell to do with that burden. They do yammer alot about foreign interference in Iranian politics, but hey, everybody can see that's bullshit, Obama and European heads of state are playing it cool. Look out for tomorrow. The Ayatollah Khamenei is expected to say something tomorrow in public. Will he throw Ahmedinejad under the bus and say gee, looks like the election had some cheating? Will he call on the Revolutionary Guard to bring out the guns? Or will he struggle for time, and dither, and seek wiggle room? This could be ugly, or wonderful, or a weird mix of both.

Believe it or not, as a child I was fascinated with insects. I would never go out of my way to harm an insect.
Of course, I'm not blaming Obama for killing the fly, but I don't think he's a compassionate person. I base this my beliefs on a couple of different things.
1. He seemed reluctant to get his daughters a pet dog.
2. His very liberal stance on abortion. I'm not opposed to abortion, but I think that life begins at some point, long before birth. Obama doesn't. His stance on abortion seems as matter-of-fact as killing the fly.
But I also hate liberals because I believe they're discompassionate. And he's definitely a liberal.

PETA doesn't surprise me - they think cow milk should be replaced with human breast milk too - nothing they think/do suprises me, pretty sure they started out meaning well and the ridiculousness that they have grown too is just a side effect.

PETA has been over the line for some time for me. I appreciate their public nudity, but I think they go too far. In a perfect world I would be a vegetarian- it's not so much about cruelty to chickens for me, it's the fact that eating meat enlarges your carbon footprint so much. But I think for an animal to feel pain, it has to have a brain. Flies don't.
I do think that Rush Limbaugh resembles Jabba the Hutt more than Sotomayor does.

interesting that Sotomayor just resigned from the "Belizean Grove" women's club. Guess she thought about it and said fine, if I am in the Supreme Court I am not going to be able to do that stuff anyway, I quit. That way the topic is no longer on the table.
It looks like Khamenei has decided to authorize the paramilitary good squad, the Basiji, to arrest or beat up the protesters. This is likely to get ugly in Iran. Nothing we can do about it. Every time they arrest a leader of the protesters, they try to force a fake confession that he works for the CIA. It's absurd, but it plays well with the paranoid theocrats.
