Daily Whine & Shine - Wednesday, June 17, 2009
by Marilyn Mackenzie
Whether you agree with the concept or not, everyone needs to be able to vent from time to time. That's especially true if you're one of the many who suffer from an invisible illness. We have whines and rants about pains, medical professionals and prescriptions, just to name a few. Perhaps our families listen; perhaps they don't. Even if they do, they get tired of our complaining, even if they claim to understand our struggles. Or if they don't get tired of our "negative energy" we think they do or will.
Are you chewing on something? Or stewing about something? Go ahead. Tell us all about it.
Do you need to rant about something? Tell us about it.
Do you have some celebration or victory you need to share? This is the place.
What's happening in your world today? Are you grumpy about somiething? Or so angry you could spit? Tell it here. Here at the Weekend Chew & Stew, it's acceptable to rant, vent, complain, stomp your feet, throw a tantrum, and shout, "Oh shuckie darn!"
Wait! Don't go away! Do you have some good news to share? Great. This is the place for that as well. If you're celebrating, dancing, and yelling, "Yippee Skippy!" please share. Sometimes knowing about someone else's happiness gives us a bit of hope for ourselves.
Whether you're shouting, "Oh shuckie darn!" or yelling, "Yippee skippy!" - this is the place to be. Pulll up a rocking chair, and let's talk about it.
Now, let's celebrate!!!

Happy Root Beer Day, World Day to Combat Drought, and Eat Your Veggies Day! Happy Wednesday!
Did you wonder where I was? Hubby and I went to an all day class at our church (by Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback) and I didn't get up early enough to log on here first. Sorry.
Great class. I'll have to share some later.
My Shine for the day...
The new points system on Gather.
It is so unclear it's making my head spin. They have supposedly changed the system to reward "original" content. What's original to one person may not be original to another.
Does this mean that we are no longer allowed to post our favorite photos we got from the internet? Like the ones that are "free" to use? And, that have copy codes that are freely allowed to be used?
This new system is aggravating. It gives more points to those already "popular" And, leaving those mediocre ones in the dust.

Angela I came away from Tom's announcement with much the same impression.
Hi Marilyn!
I'm going to pick another of the "month-of" for my commentary.
It's not really a shine nor whine, just an observation.
I noticed they call it "National Accordion Awareness Month",
not National Accordion APPRECIATION Month!
Weird, huh? We're supposed to be aware of them, but not appreciate them?
Do you know...when I married my first husband, the only music we had at our reception was an accordian player. :) He was good, though. Played both contemporary and old tunes for the parents and grandparents.
Actually a good accordion player is as nice to listen to as an accomplished pianist or guitarist, and like the piano and guitar is one of the few instruments that works well for a solo musician. The flip side is the stereotype of an inept player trying to squeeze out a beer barrel polka.
Rick Warren is excellent. I bet it was great to hear. I look forward to your future articles.
It was excellent, Danielle. It was a pastor's/leader's seminar, but our pastor invited anyone who wanted to come. So much of what he imparts is common sense, but sometimes you just need someone else to say things you've already read in the Bible or heard from your own pastor. (Kind of like a kid hearing what the teacher says and thinking it's new, even though the parents have been saying the same thing.)
For instance, first thing in the morning, before he gets out of bed, Pastor Rick tells God he wants to love Him a little more and know Him a little better that day.
He said that all sin is either lust of flesh, lust of the eyes, or pride and that the antidotes are integrity, humility, and generousity. He said that we can't really pray for humility because the Bible tells us to be humble. It's something we have to choose. (And if we're not being humble, God might just send someone to humiliate us.)
He also reminded us that we cannot bring our enemies to Christ.
His whole day message was explaining Jesus' ministry and how each one of us should model His ministry.
I gave my sister a massage tonight - my first paying customer. She's had many many professional massages but raved about how mine was the best she has ever had. How's that to stoke my ego?
Not to toot my own horn or anything but I AM GOOD! Okay, so I am tooting my own horn. It's not arrogance, it's confidence! LOL
That's great Michelle. My son used to want to be a massage therapist. Then he learned that many cannot physically keep doing it past about 40.
Awesome Michelle!! Wish you lived closer. I have a hard time getting massages due to not liking strangers touching me. I know it's weird but I just can't relax!!
hi everyone. my kids wont leave my pregnant cat alone, convinced shes giving birth under the couch---when shes just trying to be alone.
Awww. Poor kitty.
Okay Marilyn, I think you made most of these up. National Bathroom Reading Month? LOL
I didn't. :) It takes some work to get a national holiday declared. You have to contact your local congress person, write a proposal, and hope it gets on the congressional agenda at some point.
But I'm sure that many of the "holidays" are created by card companies so they have a reason to sell more cards. :)
not much different going on here, my cat got neutered yesterday, one more cat to get two needles and neutered then all that mess will be over with.
