It seems that laughter is now a victim of the narrow-minded, thin-skinned, and holier than thou elites that compromises the core of the GOP bandwagon. By distorting a simple joke into an attack on woman and children, the Palin camp and her media machine, The Fox News Channel, have once gain shown their true colors. It is the nature of the GOP pundits and media cheerleaders to fear and degrade anything and anyone who does not fit into their narrow mold and idea of what is a real American.
In this instance the powers that be perfectly played the game and turn a comedy bit into an opportunity to attack and smear a perceived enemy of their political agenda. Whether you thought David Letterman’s jokes involving Governor Palin and her daughter, which she is eager to use for her own purposes, were funny or not, there can be no question that they were jokes told by a comedian during a comedy bit. That is a fact and the truth. What is also a fact, when you lose all the rhetoric and distortion, in no way and at no time has Letterman ever encouraged or advocated the rape of children or of woman in general.
These in my opinion were jokes and in my opinion they were funny, especially when you take in to consideration the history of Palin and that of her daughter. This might make me politically incorrect, but hey I believe that political correctness has robbed us of our sense of humor.
Now David Letterman and his CBS bosses have felt the heat from a few advertisers, who fear the rabid mobs that have been stirred up by the Fox Media machine. The thought of mobs with torches in hand storming the CBS corporate building comes to mind. All because a woman who chooses to put her family and herself in the public eye, all for her own benefit does not have a sense of humor.
Either way, I wish that David Letterman had held his ground and that CBS has backed him to the wall. But then again the GOP war wagon still has a lot of power to wield. I still fill all the ruckus was a show to take the lime light off President Obama and put back on the fading star of Palin. If she is to remain a prospect for the future Presidential election, than she needs to remain in the public eye, anyway she can. In this instance David Letterman and freedom of speech were casualties in Palin’s and her handlers’ efforts to keep her in from fading back into the woodwork.

I wish Palin would just go away already.
if political correctness has robbed us of the ability to find humor in a woman being called a slut and her young daughter a whore then i hope we see more of it
It may not be your type of comedy, but the bottom line they were jokes told by a comedian during a comedy show.
I think this farce has had all the publicity it deserves.
The best thing for the democrats is for Palin to show up on the presidential list of candidates.
I defended David Letterman, just like I did Don Imus.
President Obama's poking fun at the Special Olympics was much worse in comparison to the Letterman jokes. President Obama made fun of a group of people who many in society believe it's alright to abort because of who they are.
And Obama's making fun of people with developmental disabilities lends credence to the many in the pro-choice movement who believe that because a fetus may have an extra chromosome, he or she has no value.
Before we fire Letterman, we need to get rid of Obama.
so jaun it would be ok with you for your mother to be called a slut and whore on national tv....in the name of comdey of course
If she was public figure and she had the same history as Palin and her daughter it would be funny, but she does not than it would not make sense.
Is it OK to make fun of people with developmental disabilities?
so women who have sex outside of marriage are sluts and whores?
A better question is: "If a fetus has some abnormality, does she have less value than a healthy fetus?"
lecia, I saw the comedy bit in question and I do not remember Letterman ever using the word whore.
Juan,
Do you remember Obama making fun of the Special Olympics when referring to his bowling ability?
Obama intimated that the Special Olympians were bad.
but you knows damn well that is what he meant. you implied so yourself with your comment "These in my opinion were jokes and in my opinion they were funny, especially when you take in to consideration the history of Palin and that of her daughter"
what history are you talking about if not the fact of her unwed pregnancy
Then you agree it was about her 18 year old daughter.
oreilly? so two wrongs make a right?
yes i agree it was about the 18 year old and i don't think letterman was encouraging or advocating the rape of children or of woman in general.
but the joke was wrong......bristol palin is not a public figure and does not deserve to be the butt of such a sexist joke
actually i think sarah palin showed a lot of restraint...if it were my daughter i would have ripped his head off
And there are people in America who would pay good money just to watch, not because they care about you OR your daughter...they are just drawn like lemmings to any kind of violence. Sort of like people slowing down to catch a look of carnage at a traffic accident. 90% of those dimbulbs would also be FAUX Noise viewers!
me to as I do have problems with those who hunt from copters. Sure not much sport or challenge to that. If fact cowardly. Palin would would a joke if she didnt take herself so seriously
lecia, that is all I am saying. As for Bristol not being a public figure you are wrong about that. When she choose to campaign for her mother, when her mother chose to include her in her rounds during her campaign, she became a public figure.
How many people are aware that the company sponsoring Bristol's "Abstinence" tour is a company that markets HIGHLY suggestive clothing to the so-called "Tween" market? Where's Mommy's outrage about THAT!
OH MY GOD NO!!!!!!!! not HIGHLY suggestive clothing..... WHORES the lot of them
Parents who allow 12 and 13 year old girls to wear jeans cut to ride just above to pubic bone and gauzey high cut halter tops are parents who do NOT care about their children!
As Bill Maher said, "The group I feel sorry for these days are whores, because they have nothing to wear to set them apart anymore"!
so ok...if you are a female in the public domain then you should get a sense of humor and accept being called a whore.
The first question to be asked is "are you"? If not, who cares?!
am i what? a whore? yeah according to you two i am...as i had sex before i was married and have sex now that i am divorced....and i wear HIGHLY suggestive clothing...so yeah baby i am a whore
Nice try...but I never said anything about your sexual activities. You must be arguing with an imaginary person.
But, thanks (I guess) for sharing your sexual history with everyone on Gather. ROTFLMAO
there is no such thing as a whore....it is a word invented to subjugate women and went out of vogue in the 60's
and i am not ashamed or embarrassed of my sexuality
Then you should be ashamed of yourself for being the FIRST person to mention it on this article! It's been fun chatting with an Alias, though!
