If I was David Letterman’s management or CBS I would definitely back him to the hilt. His is a comedian and if you do not like him or his type of comedy you have every right not to tune into his show. However you do not have the right to attack and twist and distort his comedy and accuse him of being everything from a child predator to condoning or encouraging the rape of minor or woman in general, all in an effort to further your and your pundit’s agenda.
I have been watching the usual suspects attacking Letterman and CBS by attaching way off base meaning to the jokes about Palin and her 18 year old daughter. They condemn him as some sort of sex pervert and yet have no problems with the extremists and racists rhetoric spewed by their mouth pieces such as Ann Coulter. But I am not surprised by this. It has always been their way.
So once again I applaud David Letterman and long may we live in a country where freedom of speech still trumps lies and half truths.

I agree with you completely. Way to go, Letterman!
BTW, if you think what Letterman said was bad, you should hear what Bill Maher routinely says...hilarious!!!
I support free speech and all that and know that he is a comedian, but I do think he went too far. Rape a teenage? Not a proper subject.
I like Letterman;and if awake, I watch his monologue.
I can't say Letterman deserves applause, but I also can't say CBS should cave-in to those who say he should be fired.
Regardless of which girl he thought was with Sarah, the joke was in bad taste as are many of his jokes which is why I rarely watched his show before this incident, and there is nothing preventing his other critics from availing themselves of the the same option I have been exercising for years and will continue to exercise. If enough people choose this route, his ratings will fall and both advertisers and CBS will be looking for another show in that time slot.
Charles,
As far as I know Letterman still has his show, and I am not aware of any of Letterman's sponsors cancelling their sponsorship of his show, so at this point no one has caved in to anybody. Otherwise I think we were saying the same thing in different words and I don't understand why your comment appeared as a reply to my comment.
He may have very well mixed up her two daughters, but it was still bad taste. I also agree though, that I've heard much worse from the extreme right, so they are hypocritical for attacking David letterman
David Letterman is bloody lucky I'm not Sarah Palin's husband.
I wish I knew what he did...
He made a stupid joke about Palin's 18 year old daughter and Palin assumed he meant it was about her 14 year old. He's a comedian though, and people need to chill out a bit.
I eventually read something about it. Something to do with her getting knocked up at a baseball game. Stupid, REALLY dumb. However, it's a good way to keep herself and her family in the "lime light".
Should he have made the joke? Probably not. Should everyone have gotten so upset? Definately not.
Puh-leeez! They're both going to milk this for all it's worth.
