Hey Gang,
Just in case anybody was wondering... I'm baaaack!
Early this week my computer refused to boot-up... crashed, had a fit, or whatever. Luckily a friend of my youngest son is a computer "Geek" and was able to take this PC, hook it up to his somehow, and perform a miracle for free, LOL. I've been in Gather withdrawals.... sheesh!
I want to apologize to members for any posts that got hung up in my moderated group queues, and for not responding to any comments etc. most of this past week. There was nothing I could do though. I have hundreds of emails backed up now to go through as well, but doubt I can hit them all; so my apologies again...
I had that sinking feeling I had lost everything again by not backing up my pictures etc. like when my old PC died, but can rest easy now. All is cool! I will spend part of today making copies of files and photos... I hate that feeling of knowing what you should do, but never did, and now have lost everything, ha ha. Thankfully, I lucked out and now am motivated to do what I should have been doing all along.
By the way, don't shut your PC off if "Windows" is updating, LOL. Apparently my oldest son was shutting down the PC for the evening when "Windows" wanted to automatically update. He ignored the little message that says not to push any shut-down/power off buttons and it will shut it down for you when update complete! BAM.... "Windows" doesn't like that pushing of buttons when it tells you not too, ha!
Anyway, I'm back and will try to clean up any of my groups that have post errors (if any), and get those approvals going; as well as catch up on your articles I have missed etc. best I can.
I'm a happy camper once again... ;-)

I'm glad that your photos and files are safe! I had one of those "I should have saved, geez, what I have lost" episodes last summer when my desktop crashed.
I'll remember not to push any buttons when Windows tells me not to.

Isn't it great to have a young, computer-knowledgable friend? Hope you took the guy to dinner or got him some movie tickets or something. Sort of a future investment. ;-)
Glad you got back, John! That happened to me once, too, and I lost -- not really photos so much (didn't have digital camera at the time) -- but a TON of my writings... GRRR! And I also lost the FOUR-HUNDRED AND SEVENTY-NINE DOLLARS that it took to have mine "reformatted"!

Glad you're back John!! Are you saving your pics & stuff to CD's or just uploading to a website? I've been doing both since my system crashed a year ago! lol I burn them to CD's & put in the firebox, then upload them to Snapfish which is cool cause then I can access them anywhere especially work!! Good luck!

Glad you're back. Maybe it was worth all the nerve-wracking emotion, though, if it motivated you to back up your stuff! You're lucky to have a friend with the tech ability and interest. Since I'd miss seeing you around, send him my "thank you", too. lol
Might not have been your son pushing that button that did it. Last night windows did an update on me. When the computer rebooted...well it did not....black screen with a message telling me something about system not found. That sinking feeling hit me hard. Luckily I remember how to get into the system menu and the update had change the boot sequence. It was now set to boot from disc inside of the hard drive. I don't know much about computers but learned from past issues. Corrected it and held my breath. Waves of relief rushed over me when it worked.
No memory stick was plugged in. There was a music CD in the player. Was that what caused it? I have never had it happen to me after a windows update before. I even thought maybe a virus but did a scan and nothing showed.
Let me clarify that. It was a blank music CD. Not sure if that makes a difference.
I am happy to hear that you did not lose anything. I have been thinking about joining one of those offsite backup services.

LOL, good uck. I'm in the process of trying to knowck out another 200 overdue gather emails. Since I'm starting a job with different hours next week, I'm going to winnow out a lot of chaff from my "friends" list too!
