While driving down the country roads the other day with my
daughter beside me and one of my grandsons in the back, I suddenly recalled a favorite pastime of mine...
When I was a little girl, a riding in the back seat, I didn't have to be in a car seat and I wasn't usually wearing a seatbelt either for that matter. I would often lay down on the seat and watch out the window
as the trees and blue skies passed by. I referred to these as my "tree tunnels" and they could keep me entertained for quite some time.
I snapped a few of the trees as we drove down this country road and thought I'd share
them with you. I shot them from the moon roof in my car. I hope you'll enjoy seeing what a tree tunnel is!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I also wanted to share with you something that happened while Xander (my grandson)
and I waited in the car for his mommy to return from a brief dash into the store. We had been listening to a CD that my daughter, Angie, had been playing for Xander. I had never heard the music, but I did like it! Xander was hooked on a particular song and seemed to want her to play it over and over again.
As he and I sat there, listening to the CD, he suddenly said, "Pork and beans, Nana!" I looked back at him and wondered what in the world he was talking about. I asked him to tell me again what he wanted. He said, "I want Pork and beans!" Thinking this was rather odd as I'd never known him to be a great fan of them in the past, I asked him again. "Pork and beans? You're sure you want pork and beans?" "Yep!" was his reply.
I picked up my cell phone and called Xander's papa to tell him to be sure to take out some pork and beans to have with our barbeque as Xander was requesting them. Feeling like a good Nana, I was happy now that he would be happy.
Moments later, my daughter returned to the car. I told her that Xander had suddenly expressed an interest in pork and beans and that I had called her
dad to let him know to add them to the menu. She burst out
laughing! Not knowing quite what to make of it, I asked her what was so funny. As soon as she was able to catch her breath, she showed me the CD jacket and informed me that Xander's favorite song on the CD was entitled "Pork and Beans!" Did I ever feel silly! LOL
That was cute.
Thank you, Renee!
Marilyn ,we are a part of a huge 'generation gap' LOL! I don't know half the time what my grand children are talking about! Great shots of the tunnels.
Thank you, Phil! I can't believe that, after listening to that song over and over, I didn't recognize it as the song title rather than food! Duh! ;)
Thanks for sharing!
stopping by from points nation
Hope you liked it! Thank you for stopping by. :)
ooh what a sweet story... i loved the tree tunnels too... awesome...
Thank you so much, Necee! I appreciate it very much!
It is a lovely story! We all fall behind in the knowledge of young people's interests. I laughed so much at this. It is so cute!. The trees are lovely too.
Thanks, Gul! Glad you had a good laugh. =)
I remember doing the same thing in the back seat of the car ... loved watching the world go by through those windows. Seemed almost like I was flying.
And of course the Pork and Beans ... so cute.
Loved all the photos btw. :)
Thank you so much Lee! It's funny the things that pop into our heads (or at least mine) from time to time. Thanks for checking out my post!
*laughing* I would of thought the same thing. And been happy I got them added to the menu! lol
Loved your tree tunnels too. :)
I'm glad I had a part in spreading some cheer and also happy to learn I wasn't the only one who took it the wrong way! Thanks, Kim, for stopping by and commenting. Have a nice day!
Children are the angels on earth
And they tend to keep me very grounded! ;)
Absolutely delightful account. As the youngest of 6 on long drives I was religated to the back of the station wagon beyond seats and i saw those tree tunnels too! (first time I have shared that!)
Thank you very much, Kevin! I appreciate it very much and thanks for sharing the part about being religated to the back of the station wagon! lol
I can remember doing that too as a kid! I don't think I called them tree tunnels though, but I also remember trying to figure out where we were by just looking up at the tree types and telephone poles etc., LOL. How funny.....
Cute about the pork and beans too, ha! Thanks for the smiles.
Always happy to help in spreading some cheer, John. Thanks for stopping by and sharing as well!
Like the trees and the cute story--but now I DO want pork and beans.
Now so that I'm clear... to which pork and beans are you referring?!? lol
Thanks, Shells! No... it was a song with that title! lol Tree tunnels... aren't they fun?!?! =)
Your tree tunnel shots are beautiful! I loved the story about the Pork & Beans! I am so out of it when it comes to music today.....my nephews are always making fun of me because I usually don't have a clue when it comes to music groups today! LOL
Thanks for stopping by, Sandra, and for leaving your comments; it means a lot to me. Glad to hear you liked the tree tunnels and the Pork & Beans story too. I should have known it was a bit odd for a two-year-old to be craving the real thing! lol
Beautiful tree tunnels, and I just loved the story. I'm clueless most of the time also. Good thing there's grand children to keep me somewhat up to date;)
Thank you very much, Nana, and thanks for stopping by to check out my post. I'm glad you liked the tree tunnels and the story and it's also nice to know there are a few of us out there who are feeling a tad bit out-of-touch these days. ;)
Well at least he didn't ask for meatloaf lol!
Hey! What's wrong with Meatloaf? I rather like it myself. ;)
Well I was referring to the singer Meatloaf. I rather like the dish too, but the singer, not so much.
I remember doing the tree tunnel thing too. Only I didn't have a name for it. I also did building tunnels when we were downtown.
Fun memories, huh? :)
And you just brought some of them back for me. Thanks!
My pleasure, Arlene! :)
a great photo essay! 10
Thank you very much, Gwen! :)
It's still Xander's favorite song. As soon as he gets strapped into his carseat he calls out "Pork Beans Mommy, Pork Beans"...he leaves out the and. Andy has decided that this is Xander's new nick name.
He's so cute! :)
A window to the elegance of leaves and trees, branches of twists and turns and a green/blue symphony of color.
You've a way with words, my friend. :)
