This morning I took the boys to Kmart to use the 14 dollar coupon off a 14 dollar purchase that I received last Sunday, when I went shopping at their double coupon sale. Last week I spent 15.77 dollars, and I saved $59.60.
I had my eye on some summer clothes for the boys, as I had seen they had some cute tank tops. With 95 degrees, I really do not understand how anyone can actually walk around in a t shirt- in my family we wear tank tops to get the air flow going.
I first checked the size 8s for Roshane, but then I found a section where infant and toddler shorts and tank tops were on sale for $1.79 each (reg. price $2.99 each). I ended up choosing 8 pieces, 5 for baby E in size 6/9 and 12 months and three pieces in a size four for Skyler Kai. I am assuming that Baby E will be just as much of a beach boy as his older brothers, and the two oldest approved of my choices.
For Baby E:

About a month ago we went shopping for summer clothes for Roshane at Target, and he got two sets of tanks and shorts in the same blue and red. Since the boys will all be matching, everyone was happy as Sky and Roshane love to wear matching clothes.
For Skyler Kai:

My total came out to $15.08 after tax, so for $1.08 I was able to get everything above.
I saved $9.60 on the clothes because it was on sale, and when adding the $14 coupon, it comes out to a total savings of $23.60.
I am not really a Kmart fan, when it comes to clothes, but I could not even beat this deal, even if I went to the thrift store.
After Kmart we went to the park before walking home in the Florida heat, which has really set in. This meant that we got both some free fun and 1.5 miles of free exercise.
Where do you buy your children's clothes?

great deals
Great deals. My gals are grown, but when they were real little and I was quite ill for some time my mil got me tons of kmart clothes for them.
Good deals! I mainly buy their clothes from thrift stores and I watch the clearance section at Walmart.
Great deals....and I've found that there are times I can get the kids clothes cheaper at the store than I can at the thrift stores. Now that the kids are bigger, it's more difficult to even find clothes.
Jax, I feel the same way. When I shop the clearance section at Target and JCPenney with coupons, I can usually get it cheaper than at the thriftstore. I do find great brand name bargains at the thrift store once in a while, but I have to be very very picky, and I only buy when they have it 50 percent off.
I can just imagine how difficult it gets to shop for the kids the older they get. I am enjoying the freedom I have....while I have it:)
Good bargain shopping! I find our K-Mart so limited that I couldn't imagine actually shopping their without discounts. I should keep an eye out for double coupon days though.
Ashley, I am really not a Kmart fan as they are so messy, disorganized and always out of what they advertise. I have gone to two double coupon sales though and hit jackpot both times. The key is to go early...Sunday or Monday is the best time to go. I was amazed when they gave me a $14 off a $14 dollar purchase coupon especially since I only paid $15.77.
Getting that coupon when spending so little is incredible. I wish other stores were so generous :). My local K-Mart is messy and disorganized. I didn't realize it was a chain wide issue but apparently it is.
Good for you :)
Great shopping!
good shopping
We mostly buy at Kohl's & JC Penny's
I don't have any young children but it sounds like you got a great deal.
You got a great deal! and I want to thank you for all these post, because of them I have really started shopping a lot smarter and looking harder for savings.
The twins are really picky about their clothes, and Missy thinks she is going to a fashion show everyday. We shop at too many stores too say just one, but I like Kohls and Penney's for great deals and to stock up on stuff for them. Missy loves Express and The Gap, and the twins fave store was Justice, but now that they have grown out of that size they like The Gap and Old Navy.
You are very welcome Sophie, this is one of the reasons why I write these posts. I too have learned so much from my fellow gatherers, and I constantly pick up new tips and deals alerts here on Gather.
I figure that my husband works so hard for his money, that I need to work just as hard on stretching them as far as possible.
I can only imagine how it is with the girls, as I certainly remember how picky I was when I was there age. I think you are doing them a great favor by introducing them to savings and clearance aisles early on, as maybe they too will realize one day how it is possible to strecth their hard earned money far. I really make a point of it to tell my boys how much we saved, how much we spent etc., and they always get a high five ones they have been well-behaved and help me get some great deals. I'm hoping to be able to instill a frugal attitude in them, but then again I might just send them in the opposite direction....I guess we'll see once they hit middle school:)
I don't think that they will go the other way j r. You get some great deals and it isn't like you are depriving them. Now if you were so frugal, that they had nothing, I could see them going the other way:)
Gwen, I sure hope they don't. My brothers are awful when it comes to name brands (they are 30 and 23), and so are a few of my husband's sisters.
I am trying my hardest to get the girls to shop smarter. I tell them look, you got the exact same thing is her, but you have more money left over to use on something else! That gets them excited so hopefully the smart spending sticks with them.
You got some really amazing deals, there. Mom used to buy our clothes at Zellers (Canadian store similar to Target).
Nice job! I buy them where ever I can get a good deal. But my daughter is a teenager now, and is getting that need to be branded, and trendy. She got some gift cards for her brithday to the trendy stores she likes. I told her to wait until it was time to go school shopping to use them. Since she does not have to worry about being all trendy that much during the Summer. I told her I would buy her 2 shirts from those kinds of stores, if she wants more she has to buy them herself. Then we go Deb which has trendy clothes without the brand names, and for much better prices, she always gets compliments on her clothes, and no one knows they are not a name brand.
Rae I really feel for all of you with teenage kids. I think it is a great compromise you have made. When I was a teenager, I would get a certain allowance, and it was up to me to buy whatever clothes I wanted with them....but it was also up to me to make sure that they stretched. I went to a K -7 school in the country with only 100 students, and at 8 grade we all transfered to another bigger school or private schools. It was such a shock for me, because I never had any brandname clothes and there everyone only wore brand names. As my sons get bigger I will have to remember this, and I will just have to find the best bargains at the brand names stores I guess:)
Khols and JC Penny. I have never ever bought clothes at Target or Kmart.
Those are some good deals. We usually shop at Wal-Mart whenever we can. Though, our nearest Wal-Mart is 90 minutes away.
I would rather shop at Target before Walmart, Walmart has horrible conditions for their clothing manufacterurs.
I buy kids clothes for myself at Old Navy. Girls t shirts are so much cheaper than adults. (that is if they are plain, I am not into those funky graphic t's)
awesome
Great deal
Awesome sales!
You did great. :o) We don't have a kmart in our town.
You are so impressive. I'm waiting for you to create your blog!
Thank you Trish. I actually set it up already, but I am working on getting the ads attached. I ran into a problem in the process, but I am going to try to figure it out later, so I really can get it going.
I am also working on the blog submission you emailed me about:)
It's terrific that you've already made great progress on the blog and the entry in the blog contest. I can't wait to see what you've come up with.
Thank you everyone, I cannot wait to show my husband what I got for the 1 dollar and 8 cents he has worked so hard for:)
You can't beat free, great deal!
Cool!
I like K-Mart - great deals you got!
Those were some fantastic savings.
When my two youngest were small, I found two compulsive shoppers who were always having garage sales. One had a young boy and one had a young girl. Needless to day, I bought them out all the time.
honestly, new clothes we rarely get...most of what we get we pick up free at clothing drives. If I could get this good deal stuff figured out at JC Penney's and such we would get more new
WTG great deals! I love to shop The Children's Place outlet stores for kids clothes.
excellent shopping!! good for you :)
We buy a lot of Elliott's clothes at KMart. The other main place we shop for clothes at is the BX (on base). Last time we bought clothes at the BX, we got Elliott three polo shirts for $.74 each. We got one for my husband for $1.23, too.
We bought Elliott some clothes at KMart yesterday. We steered clear of the tank tops (he has 5 or 6, which is enough for us here. We have mostly just warm days instead of hot days, so t shirts are worn a lot more here). We did buy some shorts for $1.79 each, and a couple of outfits for like $4.19 or something. They were character outfits, though, and I know that you don't buy them for your kids.
It sounds like you found the same shorts as I did Carla. I did look at the character ones, but yes I decided to pass. When we lived in Denmark we did use tshirts a lot, but it is seriously too hot down here. When we were in Key Largo, I had a maternity t shirt on and I felt like I was suffocating because it was so hot.
That surely is quite a deal on the close at BX, much cheaper than at the thriftstore.
BTW do you ever get any of those $ of a certain amount purchase coupons at Kmart. This was the first time I tried it, and I had no idea that they did that.
We get them every once in a while, but not very often. Usually they are off a certain thing, like tools (we buy a lot of tools there, since my husband uses craftsman almost exclusively).
Yeah, we can often find deals at the BX that are better than thrift stores, on shirts especially. Most of the kids clothes are $1.50-5.00 per piece at thrift stores here.
Usually their clothes are a little too expensive. But you scored some awesome deals!
Wonderful deals... you always find 'em! Great job :)
wow you did great, the heat is one thing i dont miss about fl, its 80 here and thats to hot ugg..anyway I like thrifting, I have found great name brand for cheap also wal mart has good clothes and periodically has AWESOME clearance I just got a bunch of t shirts and shorts abot 2 months ago for summer at 3 dollars a piece...also I like Macys clearance you can find some real good deals on name brands, cheaper than wal mart prices !
I've never bought clothes for Elliott at KMart, because I'm not a fan of the store and don't shop there often enough to even look.
When I worked at Sears I stocked up on end of season clearance clothes for the next year--when they went 75% off and with my 20% discount I had a closet full of clothes for him when he was an infant.
Goodwill sells kids clothes for $1.75 on the hanger (I've already found several nice fall/winter pieces here) or $1.00 from the bin (very little for Elliott, but I've found a few pieces for the baby) and since that's just a little cheaper than buying it on clearance at the store, I do look each time I'm in so that I'm not forced to buy it all at at one time this winter.
Speaking of name brands, Kohls is having a sale from June 18 to June 21 with coupons for an extra 15 percent of everything and an extra 20 percent off $100 or more. I found a stack of "shopping passes" for the discounts at a neighboring convenience store (left by a patron who works at Kohl's). Just thought I'd pass along the info to all you deal-hunting clothes shoppers out there.
Meanwhile, for those of you heading to KMart, remember your coupons! On some weeks Kmart matches manufacturer's coupons up to $2.
P.S. Feel free to submit this post to my Frugal Living group (http://frugaliving.gather.com) too j.
you sure got some great deals again. I had to agree with you that K-mart is not the best store for clothing but if there is a good deal we need to get it right?
nice!
