For months now I've been chewing on a series of articles stimulated in no little part by Marco Arment, Lead Developer at Tumblr and creator of Instapaper. In truth I've been laboring with this issue for some years, since 1992 more or less, as ' ambulatory creativity', for lack of a better term at the moment 1 , is ever present and on my mind. It's become such a part of me, perhaps, that it takes stimulus such as this to jog my memory and bring it back, center-stage.
What is the perfect size & form for that device I dream of?
We are, all of us, influenced, pretty much from birth, by that which we see, on a daily basis, around us. That which we experience. Can you recall the format & form of the first books or printed documents which caught your attention? Little Golden Books, perhaps?
Or the Sunday Comics? Comic Books Themselves? Then Magazines? Think back ...
How big was the first television set that you watched? Black & White or color? How close to the set did you sit, and for how long at a time? Do you recall ?
Whether or not you do recall at the moment, these memories are etched within you, body, mind, and spirit and continue to influence your expectations & preferences to this day.
1 As is usual, I will get back in here and add to this submission, when time allows, however, the primary issue I wish to address is what, in my own humble opinion, is the ultimate personal communication device, given I am a web-identified writer.

It is true we get snapshots in time of things from the past. Where they began and what form they take now.
For me, I'm certain, the most powerful influence was the 8 1/2" X 11" page ... About twenty-four inches from my eyes.
