This morning was scary - I couldn't log on to Gather. I have been a member almost two years and have not changed my password in that entire time!! I am on here several hours a day so I know I did not "forget" my password either.
I went to the home page and whenever I logged in it said "not recognized" and when I typed my address: kimber11.gather.com to see if it still had my content up for viewing it gave me the error page.
I went back to the home page and the help spot in the top corner and contacted the Gather Support Team to let them know I was having issues. I am not sure what happened - I obsessively bugged the crap out of them as I tried several different browsers (none worked but I did have full access on my cell phone but couldn't comment). I rebooted my computer and tried deleting all temporary internet files and cookies. I rebooted again and tried again and was still unable to log in. IT WAS HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!
I am not sure what happened - but I am very lucky that after nearly 4 hours of down time at work unable to access Gather boredom and agony I was finally able to log back in and it was as though it had never happened. I do not know what caused it (or what fixed it) but I really really really hope it never happens again!!!!
I have two friends this has happened to and after several months they have still not gotten back into their original accounts so they gave up and created new ones. I have over 1450 connections and 500 groups I view/follow regularly as well as tons of content I have posted that I have not as of yet been smart enough to back up. If this had been permanent I don't know that I would have been able to try again! I love Gather but the loss of that much time and effort would have been devasting!! I don't know that I would have recovered LOL this is my VIRTUAL HOME!
I am still freaking out and shaken up but really really glad everything seems to be back to normal!
Whew that was too close for comfort!

My computer is on 24/7 and even if I close out the window I don't bother logging out since everyone is FORBIDDEN off my computer~except my daughters who already know mommy's totally inappropriate and nothing shocks em ;)

I don't log out at home ever - but I do log out at work since we are networked and I don't want coworkers accessing my account. While here when I am not actively using it I sign out!
He was able to log in also after too many tries~

That is so weird - I guess if I have a heart attack or something my hubby would post about it!!! LOL or since he is connected to a lot of the people I am so instead of starting completely over I could hijack his account! LOL

Eek! I dunno if they were having some sort of glitch, as a friend of mine tried to sign up this morning, and it was telling him that every username he tried was already taken, even if they weren't. Wacky!
Did they do an upgrade last night or something that would have prompted it to screw things up??
A test or something? Or is it just a random glitch? I wonder? Sometimes the browser I use affects things but when I tried from several different browsers and had my hubby try logging in as me from his computer and it still wasnt' working i panicked!
I'm not sure; Gather support didn't seem to think there was a glitch, but he had to manually push the registration through for my friend and didn't say anything about what could have gone wrong...
It's definitely frustrating when it does unexplainable things like that, ug!

How long did it take you to get it straightened out?? That is terrible!! It took me 4 hours!!!! I didn't reset password though - just kept obsessively bugging tech support as I had the time!

For at least the last half hour when I tried to view stuff on Gather I kept getting error messages or there was just nothing there to show, like on the feeds. The only thing I could view was my posts. Must have been some sort of glitch over the site.
I wonder if they are fixing other glitches and causing these!

I would freak out too, I'd loose all my videos I uploaded here because after I upload them, I delete them to save space on my harddrive.

I was getting errors trying to view some content and profies today.
This happened to me this morning, not that long ago.....I was viewing/commenting on a bunch of photos.....all of a sudden, the photos were gone...just like that......I tried to go to "My Gather." Nothing....it was soooo weird, so I decided to just get off Gather for awhile........now everything seems to be okey, but that was really strange!!!!

I was having problems about an hour ago. I usually keep gather up and just pop in and out... For some reason, when I popped in after lunch, all of my "my gather" info was missing. I just left and tried back later.
All is fine now.

No trouble this morning but Gather has been strange since the last update.
Have you noticed a decline in number of friends with each update? I always seem to lose 3-6 every update that is done. Do they automatically delete someone if they haven't been active for a period of time?
I don't know if they auto delete them or not. I do know I go to pages of people I thought I was connected to and am no longer connected but don't know if that was an upgrade or my personality! LOL
I don't think they do it on purpose, but there's definitely a friendsloss glitch where people are disconnected without either of them disconnecting, that happens with upgrades.

I had a similar freak out when the hard drive where I store all my photos looked like it was crashing. ACK! Hubby says it would take 100 DVDs to store all my photos.
Yikes that would panic me too - I am paranoid about my photos - those are backed up on external drive, dvd's and some are printed to photo books from inkubook.com and the ones that aren't yet will be soon!! LOL

You know what, the same thing happened to me! I thought I was locked out for some reason and even sent a message to Gather because I couldn't even see any Gather content. I'm glad we're all fixed now. :)

Four hours without Gather?
Four of the hours during the time I am available to use it!!!!!!!! LOL I go without it several hours while sleeping or at kids activities or partying with friends - but when I am at work it is my primary source of amusement/entertainment during our down time!!

Ithappened to me too last month when Gather did their maintenance thing and as shutout for hour too. Areu addicted to Gather, it would be scary. I am glad you were able to get in.
oh that wouldn't have been good if you couldn't get back in, did your friends contact gather and find out why they could no long access gather?
They have been over and over for months but I think they gave up as they are actively using new accounts now for a while now

Kimber, the same thing happened to me this morning. First time I've had problems since I joined. Not a comfortable feeling. I shot off an email and waited. Gather seems to have multiple glitches, but until now, they've not effected me. Guess it was my turn.
OH NO! Luckily you didnt lose your account but your close friends you probably would remember their names but your groups would be gone!
