Bacon, Lettuce & Tomato Sandwiches ...
I make a pretty good BLT (crispy bacon, fresh romaine lettuce, juicy tomato, melted swiss, sliced red onion, avocado, a slather of mayo and S&P on good toasted bakery bread) and was mildly curious when I came across a BLT From Scratch Contest Challenge while surfing food blogs. As I read along, I started to laugh because I realized how my version of "From Scratch" differed from the contest version. I assumed from scratch meant you would use a slab of real bacon, not the pre-cooked variety that goes in the microwave. But according to this contest, what "From Scratch" really means is, "You grow your tomato, you grow your lettuce, you cure your own bacon or pancetta, you bake your own bread (wild yeast preferred and gets higher marks but is not required), you make your own mayo." Ha HA. That's one challenge I'm not ready or able to take ... but it did get me thinking about the different meaning of terms we all use in our kitchens and in our cooking.

Oh, yum! Now you have me craving a BLT! LOL Wow, my idea of "from scratch" and their idea is definitely different!
That is def from scratch, I would not go that far..lol But now I am going to have to have a BLT for luch today...thanks...lol

I love making things from scratch, but I have limits! Does sound good, though...
I like a cucumber, sliced lengthwise, on my BLT as well.
Hard to ruin a BLT...except I can make changes. (You doubted I would?) Iceberg instead of romaine, fresh maters out of the garden warmed by the sun, extra mayo (Hellmann's; not some cheap, low grade store brand) and white bread toasted medium...not too light; not too dark. Now, if that's not too picky; I'll take a couple. (Extra bacon on them would be nice, too.)
I'd leave something out (I'm a vegetarian)

I have a couple of friends who are participating in that contest. I'm hoping to get to eat some of those sandwiches too! If I wasn't traveling so much, I would have tried it too. I still might just do the parts that I am able to do without actually entering the contest. Y'know, just for the fun and experience of it all.

Leave everything as it is for me. I'll even take Kat's avacado and mayo! Yummy!

Ya I can't imagine doing all that. I like BLC (Bacon, lettuce and cheese) since I hate tomatoes.

Wow that would definitely be "made from scratch" I guess, but man, what a lot of work! LOL
