The jade green in your eyes
Matches the envy in your heart
Looking with longing at the others
But never really becoming a part
Gowns made of satin and silk
Your thread worn cotton dress
A direct contrast to fashion style
Trying very hard not to feel less
Sharp stiletto's catch your eye
As you move from room to room
Wearing your comfortable flats
Inhaling the scent of rich perfume
The beat of the music beats loudly
Young couples moving hand in hand
Bodies gliding gracefully along the floor
A spark of jealousy is in command
Humming along quietly to yourself'
Ignoring the needy hunger from within
Hips swaying as you walk to the kitchen
Serving up the meal with a bit of chagrin

Beautiful written!
An interesting story :)
Thanks Sue and Van; I was beginning to wonder if anyone was going to read this poem.
Some of us are slow to get around.
I love it Angie and I imagine it is how many a waitress feels within her heart , dreams broken down, but not forgotten, wonderful poem , I'd like stilleto heels again too
Thanks Elsie, I think we all have a bit of that green eyed monster in us.
I like this, but the tone, at least in part, is empathetic, if not sympathetic, as if it's not jealousy or even envy this person feels, but feeling left out--a "hungry need." The feelings and the terms seem to work against each other--although they do work well.
Suggestion: "green" in the first line is superfluous.
Sorry you did not see the envy in this but that's kind of how I saw it. But jealousy is part of need, "I want what you have, I need what you have". Empathy is more like I have been there also and this person has not been there so not sure exactly what you mean Chris but glad you kind of enjoyed the poem anyway.
I think you did a great job!!! Wonderful write and congrats on the win!
Thanks Lisa! Congrats to you also.
This was real good. I liked it much!

What a great image, and the words flow so well giving heart to the image. Well done.
