We are all born with a hole in our heart...
Some, bigger than others
due to life's circumstances.
Perhaps we were abused.
Perhaps we were neglected.
Perhaps nobody ever showed us love.
We search in curious places
for something or someone
to fill that emptiness inside.
We use food, sex, drugs,
shopping, work, religion.
We fall in love at the drop of a hat
hoping that maybe...just maybe
this person will be THE ONE
to fill that empty place inside.
The thing is...
I have searched.
There is nothing or nobody
on this earth that will ever
fill that hole deep inside.
God can fill the emptiness
IF we let him.
Like the missing piece
to a jigsaw puzzle,
He will enter in
and mold himself
to perfectly fill our emptiness.
How stubborn we can be,
looking in every direction
other than His direction.
But how wonderful He is
in that He never gives up on us.
He is always there, waiting...
ready to come into our lives.

For some of us it ain't that simple:), but I do love your poem, it's perfect. I'm always amazed at your poetry skills, because I can connect to just about everything you wirte.
Absolutely beautiful!
I hope you are wrong about that empty place inside. One day you may find someone that can fill that space. Someone that can make you forget the bad times you had in your youth. Don't search. Let that person find you. Have a blessed day.
if we go inside we fill the space and become whole
I'm writing to tell you that I'm putting my group, Anythingwriting off moderation for a while. If you wish to know why, read my article about my mother in law. It's a new post and I will spotlight it on my profile.
Thanks for the notice, Angela. I will read your article about your mother in law...

My first reaction was "Whoa" it hit me that hard. This is so beautiful and it hits home and I would imagine it hits home for a lot of people not just me. Thank you for writing it.
Thank you for reading, Vickie.
How true is this! Great poem!
This is a beautiful poem -- unfortunately (and please don't all of you start getting mad at me!) I have a really hard time with the end of it.
It is really very hard to believe when you see so much hardship and suffering all around us to believe that there is a God somewhere that allows it all to happen. Why do good people get abused? Why do innocents get hurt? Why do children get raped? It is very difficult to have lived through hell on earth and still believe.
Brenda,
I know this is hard. God does not send evil, sadness, illness or pain. We live in an imperfect world. God has given each of us has talents and gifts to share. He has given us the means to improve our lives and to help others. Free will is a wonderful gift, but some choose to use it for evil rather than good. God doesn't interfere with free will. He hopes we will choose to follow His commandments. Those who don't will account for their behavior in the next life.
Brenda...thank you for reading and for your comment. I know it is often hard to believe in God when you look at this world today. I was sexually abused as a child and God is the one who gave me the strength to get through that awful time. God gives us free will which is a beautiful gift when we use it the right way. Used in the wrong way, though...which many choose to do...causes pain in the world. I was abused and can choose to either be bitter and filled with hatred or to try and help others who have gone through the same. I choose the latter. God, in His mercy, does have the power to end all suffering...but in doing that he would also put an end to the free will which he has bestowed upon all of us.
I love this, Cheryl! There is an empty place just the right size and shape for God in every heart. He is always waiting to be invited in and will never leave us.
Cheryl, your writing never ceases to move and amaze me. Great write.
