I recently watched two movies with Tom Hanks, A League of Their Own and The Terminal. Both movies were funny and full of heart.
Hanks plays Jimmie Dugan in A League of Their Own, an unwilling manager to the Rockford Peaches, a woman's professional baseball team. He is pretty much a drunk and a louse and treats the women generally with contempt, at least at first. Of course he starts to come around and starts to respect the women baseball players as the season progresses. This movie is such a fun comedy, however it does have its dark moments, as it is set during World War II, not to mention its share of sibling rivalry (Geena Davis and Lori Petty.) Jon Lovitz is hilarious as the agent who goes around the country recruiting girls to play baseball. Madonna, Garry Marshall, Bill Pullman and Rosie O'Donnell also star in this movie.
Hanks plays Viktor Navorski in The Terminal, in which Viktor is stranded at JFK airport in New York City when his home country gets involved in a civil war and the US will not recognize him until the status of his country can be ascertained. Viktor cannot leave the airport as he would be arrested if he did at worst, and be someone else's problem at best. It is a charming comedy, and one cannot understand how Stanley Tucci's Frank Dixon is so stubborn and uncompassionate towards Viktor's plight. (Although Viktor's humanity and willingness to bend the rules for someone else infuriates him.) Zoe Saldana, ironically enough, plays a Star Trek fan working in the airport (she stars as Uhura in the new Star Trek movie.) Catherine Zeta-Jones and Chi McBride also costar in this movie.
Of the two movies, A League of Their Own is probably my favorite, although I adore The Terminal as well. I've always enjoyed Hanks work, and he shows his flawed humanity in both roles very well.

Liked League (because most of it was filmed at Wrigley, where Beth needs to hang out!). Terminal was okay, not great. John Lovett (SNL) was in League too.

I like all Hank's movies ,especially League ,but I've never seen the Terminal ! I'll have to rent that one ,especially if Catherine Zeta-Jones is also in it !!!!What a woman!
I am big fan of most of Tom Hank's work. I loved the Terminal. I don't think I've ever seen A League of Their Own.

Tom Hanks is a good actor. I'm not sure if I saw terminal or not, but really liked a league of their own; and I think that was a true story too
