Ahmed Ghailani is a co-conspiritor with Osama Bin Laden. He was first arrested in Pakistan in 2006. His goal in life is to kill as many Americans as he can. He is staying at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in NYC. What a great idea.
In a CNN article:
http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/06/09/guantanamo.detainee/index.html
 Â
"Ghailani faces 286 counts in the indictment against him."
"With his appearance in federal court today, Ahmed Ghailani is being held accountable for his alleged role in the bombing of U.S. Embassies in Tanzania and Kenya and the murder of 224 people," U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said in a statement.
Â
Now, I'm sure this doesn't endanger Americans and NYC which is by the way, Southern New York, really needs a terrorist brought there?  What is the president thinking? Oh, maybe it's his delusions of grandeur. He isn't even supported by most members of his own party.Â
The guy is guilty, and he doesn't deserve the same rights as an American citizen. New York being a liberal state doesn't even have the death penalty. So what will he get? Life in Prison to recruit some more friends?

I don't think he will last in the American prison system - I imagine they will rank him right around child abusers and wife beaters and he will be low man on the totem pole and taken out by someone relatively quick.
Yep, or be some big beefy guy's "bitch" for the next 50 years.
It's about time he faces American justice.
Burt in NYC?
So, what do you propose to do with the Gitmo detainees, Carol? Just keepp them housed as prisoners forever? Whether you realize it or not, some of those men down there are guilty of nothing. If you believe we should just dtring them all up, then maybe you belong someplace where that type of action is commonplace...maybe N. Korea or Iran?
Personally, I believe in the constitution and laws which govern this country.
Sayonara.
An awful lot of these ignorant people would like to just line them all up and shoot them, Donna. Just as long as they don't have to do it! The man has been "charged"...but hasn't been found guilty of a thing, yet! If the United States were Nazi Germany there are WAY too many folks running around who would be more than happy to run the "ovens"!
Unfortunately, you have a valid point, my friend. So very, very sad.
Carol has already posted that she just wants them all shot.
What's wrong with that. Is it so ignorant as to how many people they have killed. Did they not line up innocent people and blow them up. You are so civilized calling people ignorant. There is justice, and fear is justice. Don't you dare compare Gitmo to Nazi Germany were totally innocent men, women, and chiildren were tortured and murdered for being Jewish. These are known terrorists who have killed with wanton disregard for life. you are comparing apples to ass holes.
Carol Americans blow up innocent Americans.
Timothy McVie.
And then there are people like Gacy and Bundy who killed many innocent people although they didnt blow them up it is no less tragic.
They were tried and convicted and in the Bundy and Gacy cases executed.
We have a justice system that applies to EVERYONE not to some.
We cannot let people sit in limbo for years. Everyone is entitled to their day in court. And in a resonable amount of time.
American justice is what makes us better.
The biggest wound terrorists could ever inflict on this country is getting us to abandon, or even compromise on, our values. It's sad that so many people are ready to torch the Constitution because they're afraid. As the saying goes, they 'deserve neither freedom nor safety.'
OMG! Lori, you should have researched this:
It's McVeigh. And we scattered his frickin' ashes across the ocean.
What this poster neglects to mention is that THREE of this man's co-conspirtors are already here, HAVE been tried and convicted, and are serving life terms in a Colorado "SuperMax" prison.
As for me comparing people like you to Nazis...it is estimated that more than a THIRD of the "detainees" at Gitmo ARE innocent and best of all....HAVEN'T EVEN BEEN CHARGED WITH ANYTHING YET!
Carol,
And if some of them are innocent? Does it matter to you, or is it just because they have brown skin? Not all detainees are guilty of anything but perhaps being related to a terrorist, if that. some have been just rounded up in mass sweeps of areas.
Peter is right. We have laws which govern us. We are the ones the world looks to for humane justice. If we permit you and your ilk to just "kill 'em all, let God sort 'em out", then we are no better than they. Worse, as we know better.
donna I vote the brown skin thingy.
He is not innocent. What do you want? Do you want him as your next door neighbor if you're so concerned with his health and well being?
How do you know he is not innocent?
Can you see it in his eyes, or something?
Can you tell just by looking at him?
If so, then why aren't you a judge sitting on a court; or maybe a gun toting officer ignoring American law in favor of personal vigilantism.
Heck, you could start your own Jihad and go around killing all those that you just know aren't worthy.
Why is it that you believe Gitmo detainees possess some superpowers that render them able to escape from a maximum security prison, where we house the worst murderers, rapists, and ::cough cough:: other terrorists?
Is there really any basis at all for these concerns or is it just the latest thing to make pointless waves about?
Yes Erik there is a basis.
1. They are Muslims...or Moslims spelling depends on how hillbilly you are.
2. They are not white.
3. They are not white.
Haha, I believe that's Moslems...
Yep that too Erik...and did I mention they arent white?
Lori,
That's low even for you. McVeigh (Spelled properly) was white, and I would have loved to pull the switch myself.
lori,
Hey! I'm a hillbilly of the first order, but even I can spell "Muslim"...don't y'all go lumping us with these folks...Gives us a worse name than we already have.
Shame that NY doesn't have the death penality. If found guilty I think they (all of them, and any criminal responsable for rape or murder) should be taken out and shot the same day they're found guilty *shrug*
Shot the same day? So you'd be for killing the occasional innocent person in your process?
It's not as if our judicial system convicts ONLY the guilty.
I'm referring to the fact that many "convicted" rapists and murders have had their convictions overturned because new evidence, new witnesses and/or DNA evidence exonerated them.
Dumb comment award!
I don't know why you should say that, Carol. Many convicts on death row have been found innocent before they were scheduled to be killed. Sadly, many more have been found innocent after their executions.
Yeah, Isn't it a drag that we have to have all these court hearings and stuff. It sure would be better if we just killed everyone that we thought was guilty, without giving them a trial and requiring evidence and proof and allowing them to defend themselves in a court of Law.
Yeah, let's just be a nation of vigilante justice delivered by gun or sword.
You know, like the terrorists do it.
"His goal in life is to kill as many Americans as he can"
Nice of Obama to help him with his goal.
OMG, that is so tasteless.
Do you feel the same about all the former detainees that Bush/Cheney released; the ones who ACTUALLY went back to work with Al Queda?
I don't agree with them either.
It's called sarcasm, Bill.
the guy wants to kill Americans, and our wonderful president thinks it's a good idea to bring him to America. Where he will have access to millions of us. I don't want any of this trash in my country.
LOL - You make it sound like Obama's going to put him up in a hotel. Seriously, I don't think the terrorist have much opportunity to kill Americans while he is being held in solitary confinement in one of our prisons. It's not as if these terrorists are super-human or anything like that. They are just human beings like you and I; although perhaps a bit more twisted up in their heads.
OK so let me get this straight.
Some people are just for shooting these accused terrorists right?
I know what we can do...lets hijack some of their planes and run them into buildings...that'll learn them.
Sarcasm intended.
If as a society we allow ourselves to just randomly shoot and kill people we suspect of crimes without the benefit of courts and laws we are no better than what we are supposedly fighting against.
Lori,
There you go again.
Yes Carol there I go again trying to bring sense into a nonsense conversation.
Lori, Darlin
They day you bring sense anywhere . . .
Get a room you two.
he wont survive,, mark my word they dont like children killers and stuff as such so I thnk terriost would get him killed right off,,,,
A sheriff told me that about a baby killer, but he was wrong. I had to wait 7 years to see him get his. January 15th. I remember the day.
"It is better and more satisfactory to acquit a thousand guilty persons than to put a single innocent one to death."
- Moshe ben Maimon
Thank Moshe for me while thousands of innocents die.
Do people realize that, while trial is physically in NYC, he will be tried in FEDERAL court for his alleged crimes? Thus, he is eligible for the death penalty as were previous terror suspects such as the Blind Sheikh who was also tried in NYC. I guess facts are less important than sensationalism.
Well that's good news. No, I didn't know that.
Great news story, I hadn't seen this on the news as of yet!
"He isn't even supported by most members of his own party. "
Where do you get such a ridiculous notion like this? Â Obama has a 90% approval rating among Democrats. Â I'd definitely say that he is supported by most members of his own party. Â Most Democrats also support closing Gitmo
The article you quote says that 52% of Americans support torture to obtain information necessary to prevent terrorism. Obama's party has confidence differing from support. Do you really think Democrats will put their necks on the line?
Haven't you learned yet, Carol?? He won. He said so. So now it's supposed to be OK to let the terrorists run free and have their way with whatever they want. It's just the innocent babies that we have to kill.
He hasn't won. Obama will be found out. I have found out. He was a nobody. He had a minister with a filthy mouth cursing America, and his friends were at best questionable. But he promised an end ot all our problems. So he became the messiah, but not mine, and not yours.
Obama is a somebody. He worked hard all through life and accomplished a hell of a lot. He is an educated scholar in the law. His minister was talking about vile American racism, and he was spot on. Obama is not my Messiah, only fundamentalists think that way - about having to have one.
I do have One and He's enough for me.
"..it's supposed to be OK to let the terrorists run free and have their way with whatever they want."
So why is he bothering to put them on trial?
I mean if that's his attitude, why didn't he just close Gitmo and give them all plane rides home?
Huh?
If the guilty have no rights then none of us have rights. If we do not extend the rule of law and all our protections of the law (like presumed innocence before conviction) then we have no freedom.
Standing Ovation for Larry's comment !!
People who want to give terrorists a dose of terrorist justice should go live with the terrorists. As for me, I'll stick with America and the practice of due process of Law.
Doggone it, Larry,
They are not Americans; they are terrorists, and they are not even protected under the Geneva Convention which is for prisoners of war who kill soldiers not babies and shoppers.
They are human beings. They had mothers and fathers. They could just as easily have been born in the U.S. I will not deny due process of law to anyone no matter what crimes they may have committed, no matter what their religion, no matter the nation of their origin, no matter their beliefs, no matter their families. Nothing matters except that they are human beings. If they are people, they deserve due process of law.
I will not deny human rights to any human being. If I do deny anyone those rights, then those were not rights at all. They were just something I wanted for myself and maybe for my family but that only we deserved. It is simply an exercise of capricious power. If I deny rights to anyone I deny the existence of rights and make a sham of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States. If I deny the rule of law I declare that it is all right to punish the innocent and to exercise without restraint the power of the government to abuse anyone at all. If I deny the rule of law to others I do not deserve its protection for myself.
HAVE I MADE MYSELF CLEAR?
Another Standing Ovation for a comment by Larry M. !!!!!
Darn it, Larry... now I just might have to go and read that dang book you used to promote ad nauseum.
What do you mean "used to"? I am still doing the best I can to get people to read that "dang book." I feel that the idea in it is vital for humanity.
So it's at www.nopom.info just in case you need the reference. :-)
I love some of these kneejerk reactions to hearing a terrorist suspect is to be housed in a NYC prison.
People, a prisoner such as this one is not going to be housed in the general population so he'll not be getting Big Bubba for a roommate or protector. And if he's either acquitted or the case is thrown out, no one is going to just turn him loose in New York. He'll be sent back to his country of origin.
Carol, he may be held in NYC, but he'll not be tried under state law. It will be a federal trial and the death penalty will definitely be on the table. As far as him not having the same rights as American citizens, i'm afraid you're quite mistaken. He will be tried in an American court just like anyone else accused of a crime.
You may not FEEL as if he should have the same rights, but this IS the United States of America and deserves a fair trial under our law. Once that is done, THEN we execute the slimeball. Err, I mean of course if he is found to be guilty of the crimes he is accused.
I just found that out, but he will be given a stage to preach his hatred of us, and be a martyr. I'm for dungeons.
Yes, but that stage will also allow people to see what hateful wack-a-doos they are; as well as show how much better than them WE are.
Carol,
yes he will be given a stage to preach his hatred of us. Would you now deny freedom of speech? Have you no regard at all for the Bill of Rights? Are you no better than the terrorists? Carol, I simply cannot believe you actually feel that our enemies are following the right path of denying rights. I cannot believe that you are willing to stoop to their level or lower. You are to fine a person for that Carol.
It's about time America stopped acting like terrorism is a new thing, or that America was just born yesterday and doesn't know what to do with caught enemies. We can be sophisticated and show the world how to do such criminal court things properly. A camp in Cuba is not that.
How long has he been held?. Some smart ass lawyer, might get him off with time served. Then what do we do with him? I think you will get the death sentance but you never know what a bleeding heart jury will do
That is just as hilarious as it is obsurd, Delores.
"He is staying at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in NYC. What a great idea."
Yeah, from prison, he'll be planning new attacks and probably escape... I heard his favorite show is Prison Break.
I think there's a lot of unwarranted hysteria around this whole thing. Even if this guy wasn't tried in federal court, and therefore didn't get the death penalty; I wouldn't be too worried about him escaping from prison either. He's not going to be housed in the general prison population, to be able to recruit others; and there'd be so much security around this guy- it wouldn't be funny. ( figure of speech on the "funny" part)
