I've got an update on my Social Security Disability
Benefits to tell everyone about this morning.
Guess what came in Saturday's mail? . . . . .
a check for back pay/disability benefits!!
I had requested my benefits be direct deposited into
my bank account, but for some reason this back
payment check was mailed. I'm going to call them
this morning to try and find out why it was mailed
instead of direct-deposited, but at least it's here
and that's a huge relief and I've got it in the bank
now so it's safe.
Then yesterday, I got the Award Letter telling me
the monthly benefit amount and stating that it
will start on July 3rd.
It has been really hard trying to make it on just my
husband's disability benefit checks since I had to
quit working in September, 2007. We had used
all of our savings and have been really struggling
for a really long time just to get from day to day and
week to week.
Things will be better for us now.
We still won't be swimming in money or living on
easy street, but we can make it now and not be
under the constant stress we've been living with.
Thanks to all of you for your prayers, kindnesses,
generosities, thoughts and caring comments.
I think of you as my "Gather Angels" and I feel
blessed that you're part of my life.

I am really glad to hear this news. Government agencies aren't very good at following directions...............only giving them.
that's why I have to call them, Kevin. I think I need to check and make sure everything is the way it should be.

I know how you feel. I had just exhausted my savings when my approval came through. I don't know what we would have done if it had taken any longer.... phew!

Oh thank goodness! The system is so screwed up I swear.
I was surprised at how fast it happened once they made the approval decision.
Whew..I know what a relief that must be. When my dad got Alzheimers and could no longer work, my mother had to fight tooth and nail for the benefits and they came just in time to go to the nursing home. I am so glad for you!
Karen - sorry your mom had to go through so much to get them. It's hard to deal with on top of the actual illness or medical conditions going on. Glad the benefits finally started.

That was quick Susan! I am so glad for you! You have to apply for the kids too. They will take whichever is greatest for you or your husband. then give each child half.

Susan I am so happy for you! I know these past couple of years have so much of a struggle for you 2 & Kricket too! This must be a HUGE weight off of your shoulders! I hope you will be able to relax a bit more now...and not have so much stress~
Thanks, Priscilla. I can't even adequately express how much of a relief it is for us!! The sun seems be be shining brighter and life is going to be alot better for the 3 of us now. We're very thankful that the benefits are starting and that I got the back pay so quickly.

Happy to hear the great news! Our little bit of savings is slowly being depleted just to help cover some of our bills every month, but if we can hold on a few more months I'll be going back to my seasonal job and be able to help out.
Thanks, Diana. We had mistakenly thought that if we had enough to cover our bills for 6 months, that we would be ok. Unfortunately that wasn't even close to how much we needed. We had no idea it would take almost 2 years to get approved. So our savings were all gone a long time ago.
Less stress from money worries that are no more is always good!!
oh yes, so much better now, Chris. We'll still have to be "smart" about our money/spending, but at least we can make it now.
